Josh Leivo has inked a one-year, $925,000 contract extension with the Maple Leafs.

Leivo has an assist in five games with Toronto this season. He's fine when he gets to play, but he's been stuck in a depth role with the Maple Leafs and that might not change.

Josh Leivo may get another opportunity to play Wednesday night.

Leivo skated alongside Nazem Kadri and Leo Komarov during Tuesday's practice. They were a successful trio last year. Leivo earned an assist and logged 14:56 of ice time against Philadelphia last Saturday in his season debut. He has produced 11 points in his last 14 appearances with the Leafs, but sits often as a scratch.
Oct 31 - 6:45 PM

Josh Leivo drew into the Maple Leafs' lineup on Saturday.

It was Leivo's first game of the 2017-18 campaign. He registered an assist and had a plus-one rating in 14:56 minutes of ice time. He probably wouldn't have been included in the lineup if James van Riemsdyk (undisclosed) was available. As things stand, Leivo should be regarded as a depth forward with the Maple Leafs who will likely be used sparingly.

Josh Leivo skated on Toronto's fourth line at Wednesday's practice.

Leivo wasn't an extra for the session because James van Riemsdyk didn't participate. If JVR can't play Thursday then Leivo is slated to see his first action of the 2017-18 season. He has been a healthy scratch for the first nine games of the year.
Oct 26 - 10:26 AM

Josh Leivo will be a healthy scratch in Wednesday's game against the New Jersey Devils.

Leivo has yet to play a game for the Maple Leafs this season. He won't have any fantasy value this season. Eric Fehr will also watch the game from the press box.

It looks like Toronto probably won't use Josh Leivo on Saturday.

Leivo didn't play in the Maple Leafs' season opener either. He had two goals and 10 points in 13 contests in 2016-17.

Oct 7 - 6:47 PM

Josh Leivo is glad that he's still a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

With the Vegas expansion draft, Leivo wasn't sure if he was going to be on his way out of Toronto, but the Leafs decided to protect him. "Young guys are fighting for spots, but I feel it’s like that every year here," Leivo said. "As you get older, you realize what’s at stake and you want to make the most of the chance. We have a group who built a lot of chemistry last year. Even when I wasn’t playing, they were still great to me and when I got in, I felt like I hadn’t missed a game. Hopefully this season is even better. They knew I did well last year and I think Mike (Babcock) was excited to give me another shot." The 24-year-old put up 10 points in just 13 games last season.

Aug 20 - 9:38 AM

Josh Leivo was protected by the Maple Leafs for the expansion draft.

Leivo was considered to be among the most likely candidates on Toronto to be lost to the Vegas Golden Knights earlier in the year, but that won't be the case. He skated in just 13 games with the Leafs in 2016-17, but he managed to produce 10 points.
Jun 20 - 12:33 PM

Josh Leivo (undisclosed) remains sidelined, and won't play in Game 1 on Thursday against the Capitals.

He posted two goals and 10 points in 13 games with the Maple Leafs this season. He has no timetable for return.

Leivo has two goals and 10 points in 13 games this season. With him out, Ben Smith is expected to draw into the lineup.
Mar 25 - 12:16 PM

Josh Leivo has put up 10 points in 13 games this season.

Despite the fact that he's producing points, he still can't get into the lineup regularly. "We don’t have enough penalty killers, so he gets hosed," head coach Mike Babcock said. "I talk to him a lot about that. What I like about him is he brings it every day, he has a positive attitude and he has not let the adversity wear him down and feel sorry for himself."

Mar 25 - 10:07 AM

Josh Leivo will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Devils.

It'll be the first time since Feb. 28th that the youngster has played. Through 12 games he has a goal and nine points while averaging 12:37 of ice time per game.
Mar 23 - 1:30 PM

Josh Leivo, Martin Marincin and Alexey Marchenko will be scratched against Columbus on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, it would seem that coach Mike Babcock is not quite in favor of playing any of these three players very much at the moment. Leivo is still at one goal and nine points in 12 games, while Marincin has a goal and seven points in 27 games. Marchenko has seen just nine games himself since being picked up off waivers from Detroit, posting two points.
