It sounds like there aren't any hard feelings over the things said in Craig Smith's arbitration hearing.
Smith agreed to a five-year, $21.25 million contract with the Nashville Predators, but that contract was inked after the arbitration hearing, but before the judgment. Typically meeting with an arbitrator is seen as undesirable because it puts the team in a position to criticize the player's abilities in front of said player. On that Smith said, "I'm my worst critic. ... I've probably said worse things (about) myself than what I heard (in) there." Of course, the fact that he made a long-term commitment with the Predators after the hearing is a good indicator that he's still happy with the franchise. Jul 23 - 8:06 AM

Craig Smith has inked a five-year, $21.25 million contract with the Nashville Predators.

Smith and the Predators were scheduled to have their arbitration hearing today. According to Elliotte Friedman, it sounds like they did have the hearing, but agreed on a long-term deal afterwards rather than wait for the ruling. Smith had 23 goals and 44 points in 82 contests last season.

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.ca, there is a $1.75 million difference between what Craig Smith has asked for and what the Predators have offered in arbitration.

Smith is a restricted free agent who will go to an arbitration hearing if an agreement isn’t made by July 20. Friedman says that Smith has requested $4.75 million, while the Predators are offering $3 million. Smith earned $2 million last season, one that saw him record 23 goals and 44 points. The Predators have just $20.5 million in cap space, with two restricted free agents to sign, according to generalfanager.com

The arbitration hearing for Craig Smith is set for July 20.

Smith is one of the bigger names in this year's pool of players that filed for arbitration. He had 23 goals and 44 points in 82 games last season after recording 52 points in 2013-14. He's coming off of a two-year, $4 million deal.

Craig Smith has elected to file for salary arbitration.

Smith has now had back-to-back 20-plus goal seasons for the Predators and they will definitely have to compensate him financially for that. The 25-year-old had 23 goals and 44 points in 82 games in 2014-15.

Nashville Predators GM David Poile sees RFA Craig Smith as part of the future.

"Four years, something like that, probably makes sense," Poile said. Smith will be entering his age-26 season, and his fifth in the NHL come October. He followed up his thus far career best of 24 goals and 52 points in 2013-14 with 23 goals and 44 points last season. Smith also just finished a two-year, $4M contract with Nashville, and the Predators are $10.644M under the cap floor with just 12 skaters and two goalies signed. One imagines Smith could easily double his salary and cap hit as he enters his prime.

Nashville Predators GM David Poile said that they're talking to all of their RFAs about contract extensions.

The Predators have some significant players to re-sign in that regard, with Craig Smith and Colin Wilson being the biggest names. The good news is that Nashville has almost $29 million in cap space.
May 30 - 1:58 PM

Craig Smith will be a restricted free agent in July and he'll probably earn more than the $4 million he made in two seasons on his last deal.

He topped the 20-goal plateau in both seasons and posted 44 points in 2014-15 after he registered 52 points in 79 games the year before. The 25-year-old has become a productive top-six forward for Nashville and he'll likely get a hefty raise for his efforts.

Craig Smith was not on the ice with the rest of his Predator teammates for Saturday morning's line rushes.

We are not sure if this is a morning off or if Smith has an injury of some sort that will keep him from playing in Saturday night's crucial Game 6. Stay tuned for updates.

Craig Smith picked up a pair of assists in Nashville's 4-2 loss to Chicago in game three of their best-of-seven series.

Nashville was able to keep up with Chicago until the 3:38 mark of the second period when Brandon Saad scored the eventual game-winning goal. Smith assisted on both of Nashville's goals (scored by Mattias Ekholm and Mike Ribeiro). The 25-year-old now has two goals and five points in just three playoff games in 2015. The Predators now trail two games to one in the series and it doesn't look like they will have Weber back for game four.
Apr 19 - 6:16 PM

Craig Smith had a great game, scoring two goals and recording a power play assist during Friday's 6-2 win over Chicago to tie the series at one.

Smith now has two goals and four points in four career playoff games. Smith was simply brilliant all night long, adding two more shots, two hits, and a takeaway over 18:34 of work. He has just one other career game with over two points, a two goal and four point effort over Minnesota in April of 2013.
Apr 18 - 1:45 AM

Craig Smith has been fined $5,000 for his high-stick on Sabres' forward Jerry D'Amigo.

The incident occurred in Saturday's game which the Predators ended up winning 3-0.
Mar 22 - 4:17 PM

Craig Smith tallied a goal for the Predators in their 3-0 win against the Sabres on Saturday night.

Smith now has 23 goals, one off his career high set last season. With 41 points, though, he likely will fall short of surpassing the 52 points from 2013-14. Smith also had four penalty minutes and four shots on goal in 17:29. Mike Fisher and Taylor Beck got the other goals.
Mar 21 - 10:54 PM

The Nashville Predators ended an 0-for-18 slump on the power play on Saturday night.

The Predators defeated the Kings 2-1 and Craig Smith's game-tying goal was scored while Nashville was on the man-advantage. It was great to get that," Smith said. "Sometimes it's looked like we've been struggling, but we've been working and trying to make things better every game. Hopefully now we can ride the wave a little bit and stay positive." The Predators currently have the 25th best power play in the NHL at 16.2 percent.
Mar 15 - 10:57 AM

Craig Smith netted a goal for the Predators in their 2-1 win over the Kings on Saturday night.

The Predators entered the third period down 1-0. Smith scored on the power play at 6:37, then Viktor Stalberg — off of a deflection from Jake Muzzin’s stick — scored on the next shot 1:06 later. With 22 goals, Smith has a good chance of shattering his career-best mark of 24 from last season. The 52 points might be a little tougher; he has 40. Stalberg’s goal was his first of the season. Seth Jones, Ryan Ellis, Matt Cullen and Roman Josi tallied the assists.
