The Columbus Blue Jackets think they have a nice prospect in Scott Harrington.

Harrington was dealt to the Blue Jackets Saturday from Toronto for Kerby Rychel. The 23-year-old played 15 games for Toronto after he was a piece in the Phil Kessel trade to Pittsburgh. Defensemen usually take longer to develop so at age 23, Harrington could be on track to claim a bottom pairing job in Columbus. "(Harrington) is steady, smart, he's a good defender," GM Jarko Kekalainen said. "He competes. He has character. Those are the things we really like about him. He has good size. We've liked him for a while." Harrington has no fantasy value and will likely be no better than a fifth or sixth defenseman on the Jackets.

Scott Harrington has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Leafs obtained Kerby Rychel in the deal and the Blue Jackets will get a fifth-round draft pick if Harrington is put on waivers and he is claimed by another team. If he clears then the condition isn't fulfilled. Harrington played in 15 games with the Maple Leafs in 2015-16 and 17 with the team's AHL affiliate.

Scott Harrington was optioned to the AHL Marlies on Saturday.

He had been a healthy scratch of late and his roster spot was needed for goalie Garret Sparks due to the probable unavailability of James Reimer. Harrington will be back when the Leafs need an extra defenseman.

Scott Harrington and Frank Corrado will be scratched from Friday's match with Carolina.

Through 13 games this season, Harrington has but a point, 15 blocks, and 22 hits while averaging less than 14 minutes a night. Neither he nor Corrado, who has yet to dress this season, have any fantasy value.

Mike Babcock likes what he's seen from Scott Harrington.

"He’s been good, but I want to look more," said head coach Mike Babcock before the game against Detroit. "I’d be good again if I were him . . . he can be more combative, but we like what we see." The Leafs acquired Harrington from the Penguins in the Phil Kessel trade. There's an outside chance that Harrington could crack the Leafs' lineup when the regular season begins next Wednesday.

Don't be shocked if Scott Harrington cracks the Maple Leaf roster sometime this season.

The 20-year-old defenseman was acquired in the Phil Kessel deal on July 1st and he has the ability to play in the NHL if he can pick it up a notch. He started training camp Friday paired with Roman Polak, which can be taken as a positive sign. Keep an eye on Harrington. Although he has not shown much in the AHL the past two years, he was a scoring defenseman with the London Knights.

Scott Harrington was traded to Toronto in the Phil Kessel deal.

Harrington was a scoring defensemen with the London Knights a number of seasons ago but he has not shown much in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre-Scranton. Last season Harrington registered 12 points in 48 games with the Baby Pens but did not have any points in a 10-game trial with Pittsburgh. Harrington is still a prospect but he will likely not make much of an impact fantasy-wise in 2015-16.

Scott Harrington has been assigned to the minors.

This could indicate that Derrick Pouliot is close to returning, but it could also be to simply get Harrington some playing time. He hasn't dressed for Pittsburgh since Jan. 30 and will help Wilkes-Barre in their AHL playoff series against Syracuse.

Defenseman Scott Harrington and forward Craig Adams will both be healthy scratches for Game 3 with the Rangers.

Harrington has been skating with injured defenseman Derrick Pouliot during practices while Adams has been practicing in and out of the fourth line. They both may get a chance to dress if the Penguins end up dropping Games 3 or 4 to the Rangers but if not, they’ll likely remain healthy scratches.
