Sami Aittokallio had a season debut he'd like to forget in Colorado's 5-2 loss to the Lightning on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old gave up three goals on 18 shots in two periods of his second career NHL game, before getting yanked for Semyon Varlamov, who made nine saves on 11 shots. It's unlikely Aittokallio will be in the NHL for much longer unless J.S. Giguere's cranky back is worse than it appears.

Sami Aittokallio will make his season debut for the Avalanche Saturday night when he starts in goal against the Lightning.

The 21-year-old was just recalled from Lake Erie of the AHL where he posted a 2.89 GAA and .900 save percentage. Aittokallio did play one game in Colorado last season. He allowed two goals in 49 minutes of playing time and stopped 23 of 25 shots. Aittokallio, who is getting the start because J.S. Giguere has a wonky back, is not a fantasy asset at this time.

Colorado has called up Sami Aittokallio on Friday.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere is questionable for Friday's contest, so Aittokallio was called up as an insurance policy. Aittokallio has a 2.89 GAA and .900 save percentage in 21 games in 2013-14.

Sami Aittokallio has been summoned from the minors.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere is out with back spasms, so Aittokallio will back up Semyon Varlamov. He has an 8-8-1 record with a 2.83 GAA and a .901 save percentage in the AHL this season.
Jan 13 - 2:23 PM

The Colorado Avalanche have returned Sami Aittokallio to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL.

Aittokallio was recalled a week ago when Semyon Varlamov suffered a hip injury and got into one game but had to be pulled when he dehydrated halfway through the third period. The fourth round pick in the 2010 Draft, Aittokallio is only 20 and could have a bright future in the NHL.

The Colorado Avalanche announced that backup Sami Aittokallio is over his dehydration issues.

He had to leave Thursday's game with a leg cramp, making way for Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Either way, his fantasy value is pretty minimal, though Semyon Varlamov's injury and the season's outlook might earn him another start or more.

Sami Aittokallio suffered a leg cramp during Thursday's game.

Aittokallio had to leave the contest midway through the third period as a result. Not exactly the best way to end your first NHL start. He kicked out 23 of 25 shots in Colorado's 3-2 shootout loss.

Sami Aittokallio will make his NHL debut Thursday night against Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old will be the second youngest goalie in team's history to debut in an NHL game after Marc Denis was 19 years of age when he played in December of 1996 against the Kings. Aittokallio backed up Jean-Sebastien Giguere in Wednesday's win over Colorado.
