Sven Baertschi contributed two assists in Calgary's 4-3 loss to Nashville on Tuesday night.

The rookie forward has collected two goals and eight points during his season-long six-game scoring streak. Baertschi had one assist in his previous 13 games with the Flames this season. Feel free to take a flier on him during his hot streak to end the year and keep him close in keeper formats.

Although the Sven Baertschi's career is beginning as an era ends in Calgary, he appreciates the brief overlap.

"I don’t take it for granted, that’s for sure," Baertschi said, "being able to say you played with Miikka Kiprusoff, with Jarome Iginla. That’s special, for any young player. A dream. Those guys, they are where the rest of us want to be. But few of us will get to. They’re all-timers. So you watch, and you learn, while you can." Iginla has already been traded and Kiprusoff might retire this summer. Baertschi meanwhile is a highly regarded prospect that could eventually become one of those players that youngsters feel grateful for being able to play with.

Sven Baertschi is on a three-game point streak.

Baertschi has two goals and four points in that span. He's had trouble establishing himself in the NHL earlier this season, but seems to have found his groove lately. Look for him to finish the season on a positive note.

Sven Baertschi has been focused on playing a grittier game since being called up.

"When I came up, I was excited," Baertschi said. "I knew I had a lot to make up for and I had to prove something. I came up and switched my game a little. I wanted to play hard and gritty. I know I can score goals and make plays, but there's other parts of the game that I had to learn and Bob (Hartley) and the assistant coaches really helped me." Baertschi has a ton of offensive potential and even though he struggled with the Flames this season, he's still worth keeping a close eye on during Calgary's 2013 training camp.

Sven Baertschi scored on Monday for the second consecutive game.

This is after Baertschi failed to score all season in NHL action, so the 20-year-old future star is getting his game back in order. "He skated well," coach Bob Hartley said of Baertschi. "The more the young man touches the puck, the more he can make good things happen . . . Slowly but surely, he's coming back, and that's very important for us." Baertschi is one young Flame that the team is counting on to take them back into the playoffs, but that could take a few years. He is worth owning in all keeper pools.
Apr 16 - 7:00 AM

Sven Baertschi scored his first goal of the season Saturday.

It was a big game for the young winger who went over a calendar year since his last NHL goal, albeit less than 20 games. "I'm happy it's over," Baertschi said. "I had a heavy backpack for a while. Now I just dropped it and now I can just keep going. It feels much better now." The Flames sent Baertschi to the minors for four weeks on March 8 and it did wonders for the future star of the Flames. Do not forget about him next season, especially in keeper leagues.
Apr 15 - 7:10 AM

Sven Baertschi scored a goal and an assist as the 2011 first round pick helped Calgary defeat their provincial rivals Edmonton 4-1 on Saturday night.

This was easily Baertschi’s best game of his short career, which spans 19 games over the past two years. Another Flames youngster Max Reinhart scored his first NHL goal on Saturday night too.
Apr 14 - 6:11 AM

Sven Baertschi had a tough time when he was demoted to the minors a month ago.

Baertschi sulked for a week upon his demotion to the AHL after picking up only one assist in 10 NHL games. But he soon realized that it was for the best and started playing better after that. "The best decision they made was to send me down," Baertschi said. "You get rattled, you get caught up in things. You're mad at people. You're mad at yourself. You don't even think about why it actually happened. After a little while, I understood. In the first couple of games in Abby I wasn't comfortable. I didn't want to be there. And then at the same time, I realized again if I want to go back up there, I've got to perform here. I've got to show them what I can do here." Baertschi ended up with four goals and seven points in the AHL and will now get a chance to play as the Flames wind down their season with only three weeks to go in the NHL regular season. He is worth looking at in keeper leagues.
Apr 8 - 4:47 AM

Sven Baertschi has been called up by the Calgary Flames.

Calgary won't make the playoffs, but at least some of their top prospects like Baertschi can get some NHL experience. He has an assist in 10 games with the Flames this season.
Apr 7 - 1:22 PM

Sven Baertschi was devastated to be demoted to the AHL.

Baertschi could use a boost of confidence as he had only one assist in 10 NHL games. He played Sunday for Abbotsford of the AHL and missed during the shootout in a 3-2 loss to Rochester. "I was hoping that he would score, because that would have helped him tremendously," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said. "And he missed the net. Just his body language even when he picked up the puck at center ice, you could tell that he feels that he let himself down, he let his family down, he let our organization down. And that's not the case. For us, he's not taking a step back by going down. He's taking a step sideways." Baertschi should eventually be a star in the NHL so grab him in all keeper leagues if you can.
Mar 12 - 7:27 AM

The demotion of Sven Baertschi to the AHL should benefit him and the Flames in the long run.

"I want hockey to be fun for him again," GM Jay Feaster said. "I want him to get on top of his game. I want him to play in every situation. He'll go down there. He'll play a lot of minutes. They're starving for the kind of creativity and goal-scoring ability that he has right now in Abbotsford. He's going to kill penalties. He's going to play on the power-play. As I told him today, I want the game to be fun for him again. I want him to be able to do it away from the glare of the spotlight and the expectations in the National Hockey League." Baertschi is expected to take over from Jarome Iginla as their top offensive threat once Iginla leaves the Flames and regaining his confidence will certainly help. He deserves to be grabbed in all keeper leagues.
Mar 11 - 5:29 AM

Calgary has demoted top prospect Sven Baertschi to the AHL.

In 10 games this campaign, the 20-year-old rookie has no goals and one assist while averaging 11 minutes of ice time. He will look to hone his skills with more playing time in the minors and could be back with the big club later this year.
Mar 9 - 3:42 PM

It wouldn't be shocking if Sven Baertschi gets sent back to the minors.

Baertschi has just one assist in 10 games this season and will be a healthy scratch Friday night. He's also averaged just 11:01 minutes per game. Baertschi has a ton of offensive upside, but he might benefit from more playing time in the AHL. Either way, the odds of him having much fantasy value for the rest of the season aren't great.

Mar 8 - 7:44 PM

Sven Baertschi has yet to find the back of the net in nine games this season.

Baertschi caused heads to turn last season as he scored three goals in five games as an emergency recall from junior hockey before being returned to the Portland Winterhawks. But this season has been a different story in the early going as he missed a lot of action with a hip injury and has struggled to score. He is currently playing with Michael Cammalleri and Alex Tanguay and is looking better and better so it could be a good time to pick him up off the waiver wire in deep leagues as he is owned in only six percent of pools.
