He picked up the second assist on Michael Del Zotto's first period goal. It took Cousins 17 games to register his first point. The 22-year-old has played in six contests in 2015-16. Cousins is getting a chance to center Philadelphia's second line because of the injury to Sean Couturier.

Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol was impressed with call up Nick Cousins in training camp.

The Flyers need scoring and they recalled their third round pick in the 2011 Draft as he had 18 points in 15 AHL games. "I thought Nick picks things up very quickly," Hakstol said. "Nick makes a lot of little plays. What you want to see in your centerman is he is pretty patient inside the dots. He’s available in terms of breakouts and transition. He’s smart with that next play on our side of the red line and he is competitive as hell." Cousins was a plus-one in the Flyers win on Friday and could be a sneaky pickup in deeper leagues if he can stick with the big club.

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled Nick Cousins from the minors.

The Flyers needed a replacement for R.J. Umberger who is out for the season and Cousins got the call over Scott Laughton who has been up this season with Philadelphia. Cousins led Lehigh Valley with 55 points and was fifth in the AHL before his recall. He is also chippy as his 70 penalty minutes in 60 games will attest to.

Nick Cousins has only one goal in his last 26 games for the Adirondack Phantoms.

Cousins is playing in his first professional season and has 14 points this season in 51 games in the AHL after a 103 point season in the OHL in 2012-13. "He's got to mature physically," Adirondack coach Terry Murray said. "There's a lot of strength and power that needs to be added to his body, and that's going to be an off-ice, summertime [mission]. He has a special ability, though, to make plays and find people in very tight spaces. A lot of guys can't make those little plays he can make, so I think it's just a matter of a process and going through the playing and the development - and it's going to take a couple years, and then we'll see where he's at." The former third round selection in the 2010 draft is a feisty player as well and could be a nice addition in fantasy pools in a few years.

Nick Cousins had a goal and an assist in Philadelphia's 4-3 loss to Toronto in pre-season play Sunday.
