Dmitry Orlov's spill at center ice gave the puck right to Nikita Kucherov who fed the puck over to Ondrej Palat who sniped one in behind Braden Holtby for his sixth goal of the post-season. The Lightning trailed 2-0 in the series after losing the first two games at home but they have now won three straight and will head back to Washington with a chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. Ryan Callahan and Cedric Paquette also scored in the win.

Palat and Kucherov earned assists on a goal by Victor Hedman during the second period. He had been playing on Tampa Bay's shutdown line previously, but coach Jon Cooper shook things up after losing the first two games of the Eastern Conference Final. The moves worked in Game 3, as it resulted in a 4-2 win for the Lightning.

Ondrej Palat scored a goal in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final.

The Lightning fell behind 4-0 after two periods and to make matters worse, they had just 10 shots on goal through 40 minutes. Steven Stamkos and Palat were able to cut the deficit in half in the third frame, but that's as close as the Bolts came to tying the game. Palat finished the night with an even rating and two shots on goal in 14:56 of ice time. The 27-year-old has five goals and four assists in 11 games during the postseason. The Lightning trail 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Final. They'll need a way more complete effort in Game 2 if they're going to tie this best-of-seven series up on Sunday night.

Palat scored both of his goals in the first 3:19 of Game 3 to give his team a 2-0 advantage at the time. The Bolts forward finished the game with a plus-2 rating, three shots on goal and two hits in 20:28 of ice time. The 27-year-old now has four goals and eight points in eight games this postseason. Anthony Cirelli and Steven Stamkos (empty-netter) also found the back of the net for the Lightning. Tampa Bay leads this best-of-seven series 2-1. Game 4 will be played in Boston on Friday night.

Palat helped set up Tyler Johnson's second-period goal, which gave the Lightning a 2-1 lead at the time. He then made it 3-1 with under six minutes remaining in regulation. He missed about a third of the season due to a lower-body injury and the Lightning will need him to be fully healthy in their quest for the Stanley Cup. A Bruins loss tomorrow against the Florida Panthers would clinch the top spot in the Eastern Conference for the Lightning.

Palat hasn't played since Jan. 20. against the Minnesota Wild. He's rounding into form but it is being speculated that he'll hold out until he is fully healthy in order to be ready for Tampa's playoff run. The 26-year-old forward has 30 points in 46 games this season. Hopefully we'll see him back in the lineup some time in the upcoming week.
