Adam Lowry was named the WHL's player of the year.
Lowry, the team's third-round pick from the 2011 draft, finished the regular season with 45 goals and 43 assists, and he also had five points in five games in the playoffs. The 20-year-old also made his AHL debut, getting an assist in nine games. "Making that switch to center really opened up the ice for me," said Lowry. "As I've gotten stronger I've been able to hang onto the puck longer and win more battles. I'm going to continue to work on getting stronger -- I know the guys in the AHL and NHL are a lot bigger and stronger. "As I get stronger I think that will help with my skating and overall versatility." Lowry will attend the Jets' development camp in the summer prior to heading to the Jets' training camp. "There's a lot of opportunity in Winnipeg," said Lowry. "I'll have to put in a lot of hard work in the summer, continue to fill out my frame and whether it takes me a couple of years to reach the big club, it's all about what's best for my development. I just look forward to the process and the journey of one day of playing in the NHL." He was named the 2012-13 WHL Player of the Year and the recipient of the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy on Wednesday. He has been back on left wing the past few games, but his size and versatility have been displayed early into this campaign. "I knew coming into the year it was going to be big for me because I missed the last half coming off (wrist) surgery. I wanted to get off to a good start, not only for myself but for the team. I've battled a little bit of inconsistency, but I've been getting back on the right track." He hasn't an issue with his wrist this year and will participate in both games of the Super Series for Team WHL against Russia. Lowry is hoping to land on the radar of Hockey Canada for the world junior team with a strong performance in the two-game set. He was chosen by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round of the 2011 draft.
