Antoine Roussel understands that he can't go too wild in the NHL playoffs.
"I played for Chicago in the AHL, and I took two penalties right off the bat and then I was scratched the rest of the way," he said of his brief postseason experience. You can't do that in the playoffs." Roussel finished third in the league with 209 penalty minutes during the regular season. He'll make his NHL playoff debut on Wednesday against Anaheim. Antoine Roussel played Sunday after he experienced concussion-like symptoms from a hit he received on Saturday.

He passed all of his tests and managed to stay in the game after he was hit high by Tampa Bay blueliner Radko Gudas. Roussel ranks third in the league with 195 penalty minutes in 77 games, but he's also recorded 14 goals and 29 points. "I love the way he plays," coach Lindy Ruff said. "The energy he provides. He's a workaholic, and he makes you want to put him on the ice." Ruff wants Roussel to focus more on that part of his game rather than playing solely as an agitator.

The Dallas Morning News guesses that Chris Mueller's recall happened because Antoine Roussel might not be able to suit up for the Dallas Stars against the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

Roussel took a hard hit on Saturday. The agitating forward brings a nice mixture of grit stats like PIM and decent scoring ability to the table, so many might want to add him for playoff purposes. That might not be such a good idea today.
Apr 6 - 1:30 PM

Antoine Roussel had a goal, assist, and misconduct in Saturday's 4-2 victory against St. Louis.

From a fantasy perspective, Roussel is a pretty solid player to have given that he produces a ton of penalty minutes while still chipping in offensively. He has 28 points and 193 PIM in 73 games in 2013-14.
Mar 30 - 10:02 AM

Antoine Roussel had a goal and an assist in Dallas' 4-2 loss on Saturday.

Roussel has 10 goals, 11 assists, and 158 penalty minutes in 58 games this season. He's one of just two players with over 20 points and 100 penalty minutes.
Mar 2 - 9:38 AM

Antoine Roussel compiled 20 penalty minutes in Dallas' 4-1 triumph over Carolina.

He earned a five-minute major for charging and game misconduct for a hit on Hurricanes defenseman Ron Hainsey early in the third period. Roussel also dropped the gloves with Hainsey on the play, so they both piled up some penalty minutes in the altercation. Hainsey was assessed a misconduct penalty and an instigator for his role in the fisticuffs.
Feb 28 - 10:23 AM

Antoine Roussel tallied his ninth goal in Tuesday's win over Phoenix.

It was his first goal since Dec. 21. Roussel has 19 points in 55 games this season. He is second overall in the league with 138 penalty minutes. He's racked up 29 minutes in the sin bin over his past eight outings.
Feb 5 - 8:44 AM

Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff wants to see Antoine Roussel cut down on the number of penalties he takes.

Roussel was made a healthy scratch on Thursday to drive that point home. Ruff put him back in the Stars' lineup on Friday and said that taking the energy Roussel brings out of the lineup hurt the team, but he reiterated that "the penalties were getting out of hand." From a fantasy perspective, a big part of Roussel's value comes from the excessive number of penalties he takes. So naturally these marching orders should be a source of concern for Roussel owners.
Jan 12 - 9:58 AM

Antoine Roussel is relishing his role as an agitator.

"It's a big part of my job, so if they're worrying about me, then I know I'm doing my job," he said. "You don't want to go so far that you hurt your team, but you do want to make sure that you are playing hard and the other team knows you will play hard against them." He scored two goals against Chicago, to give him seven on the year, and he got under the skin of the Blackhawks throughout the contest.

Antoine Roussel made his presence felt even as the Dallas Stars lost to the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2.

Roussel scored both goals for Dallas and now has five points in his last five games. The France native had an impressive night overall with 16 PIMs, 3 SOG, and 9 hits. He also ended the night +2. He's worth adding, even short-term, in many formats.

Antoine Roussel angered the Chicago Blackhawks and anchored the Dallas Stars in a 4-3 win on Tuesday.

Roussel scored the game-winner on a penalty shot and already made an impact on the game before that, collecting seven PIM and three hits. Even if his recent scoring dries up (three goals, one assist in four games), he does other valuable things, most obviously shown in 70 PIM. At absolute minimum, he's a guy to watch in leagues with "gritty" categories.

Antoine Roussel and the rest of the Dallas Stars' fourth line carried the mail on Tuesday, fueling a 6-3 win against the Anaheim Ducks.

If Roussel could score with some consistency, he can be a nice addition because of his PIMs (63 so far in 2013-14). He's also a decent option if hits are a factor. He had seven goals and 14 points last season, so if he could translate that to 20-30 points, he becomes intriguing in deep leagues.

Antoine Roussel was gifted with his first goal of the 2013-14 campaign on Sunday.

He centered the puck into the slot and Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki inadvertently tipped it into his own net. Roussel has accounted for three points and 23 hits in 14 games this season. He also sits fourth in the league with 52 penalty minutes.

Stars forward Antoine Roussel score a pair of goals Friday en route to a 4-1 victory over Florida.

Roussel scored the game's first two markers until Colton Sceviour and Chris Mueller also found the back of the net for the Stars. Tom Gilbert was the lone goal-scorer for the Panthers, who were represented in goal by Michael Houser. Dan Ellis played the entire game between the pipes for Dallas.

Antoine Roussel will wear jersey No. 21 in 2013-14.

He wore No. 60 last season while skating in 39 contests with Dallas. Roussel has agreed to pay for replacement jerseys for every fan who bought his old jersey last year because the change wasn't his idea. He also promised a fan over Twitter that he wouldn't be switching numbers, so he must feel bad for misleading him and is doing a generous thing as a result. He wasn't the only player to alter his number this off-season; Jordie Benn switched from No. 58 to No. 24, Ryan Garbutt has changed from No. 40 to No. 16 and Jamie Oleksiak will wear No. 5 after donning No. 43.
