The Stars' Ryan Garbutt is unlikely to be suspended for spearing Corey Perry in the groin during Friday night's 6-2 loss to the Ducks.

The NHL has not indicated if it will review the infraction that saw Garbutt receive a five-minute major and a game misconduct. However, even if it does, the league has not made a habit of suspending players for spearing in the post season. Milan Lucic was fined for a playoff spear this season against Detroit but was not suspended.

Ryan Garbutt was whistled for diving three times in March.

That's not a reputation that he wants to build for himself moving forward. "You just have to adapt as the season goes on," Garbutt said. "They don't call as many penalties at this time of the year, so you work on that, you skate hard, and you don't embellish. I think it's something I'll learn as I play more games in this league." He is having a career year in 2013-14 with 15 goals and 28 points in 67 games. He also has 90 penalty minutes and 128 hits.

Ryan Garbutt's recently inked three-year extension is worth $5.4 million.

As expected, Garbutt is getting a big raise from his 2013-14 salary of $600,000. "I've seen a lot of things I've liked," said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. "He's added a lot of speed to our team. He's an important guy on our penalty kill. On the offensive side, if you can get into that 10-15 goal range you'll be a factor, and that's a very effective player. He's had good chemistry, he has a good role here and he fits in how we want to play. I'm happy for him." Garbutt has 18 points and 61 penalty minutes in 46 contests in 2013-14.

It's a great credit to the work he has put in and we're excited to have him signed."
