Stan Bowman believes that acquiring Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt helps his team right away.
The Hawks sent Patrick Sharp to Dallas, but Bowman still feels that his team will be fine going forward. "Sometimes when you make trades of players who make a lot of money, you’re trying to get picks or prospects back. The key is to make our team better," Bowman said. "Obviously we’re trading away a good player. But this wasn’t trying to just get things that would help us down the road. We like our team as it is. We think we have a strong group of guys coming back that led us to the Cup a month ago. That was really the thing we talked about when in discussions with Dallas, trying to get something that could help us now." Jul 11 - 9:22 AM

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired Ryan Garbutt in the Patrick Sharp trade with Dallas.

Garbutt comes with a $1.8 million annual cap hit through 2016-17 and Dallas is reportedly retaining half of that, so he's an inexpensive option for a Blackhawks' squad that's constantly struggling to stay under the ceiling. Garbutt won't come close to replacing the offense lost by trading away Sharp, but he does play with a physical edge and could be a valuable addition to their third line.
Jul 10 - 9:29 PM

Ryan Garbutt, Trevor Daley, Travis Moen will each be scratched from Friday night's contest with the Edmonton Oilers.

This will be Garbutt's fourth straight game in the stands. He's had a nice season though, posting seven goals, 22 points, 51 PIMs, and 78 hits through 60 games. Daley and Moen meanwhile will continue to recover from their respective injuries.

Garbutt will sit out for a second straight game Monday night when the Stars host the Sabres. Garbutt has played in 60 games this season, picking up seven goals and 22 points with a minus 10 rating. He does have some fantasy value as he’s posted 51 penalty minutes and 78 hits to go with a decent point total.

Mar 12 - 6:59 PM

Ryan Garbutt was benched in Thursday's game against San Jose.

Coach Lindy Ruff wasn't happy with an elbowing penalty Garbutt took in the second period, so the Dallas winger didn't get much playing time afterward. He concluded the match with just 7:54 of ice time. Garbutt has had some disciplinary issues this season and he's been suspended twice.
Feb 20 - 12:48 PM

Ryan Garbutt has finished serving his three-game suspension.

Garbutt was suspended for slew-footing Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets. Stars' coach Lindy Ruff is hoping that Garbutt has learned his lesson. "We’ve had a lot of discussions, (GM) Jim (Nill) and I have had discussions with him, because we just feel it’s that important that he change the way he approaches some of those situations when he’s on the ice," said Ruff. "Because when he plays the way he can play, he’s been a very good player for us. But we have to find a happy medium for him."

After being benched in Dallas' last game against Detroit, Ryan Garbutt had a solid showing against Montreal on Saturday.

In addition to being suspended by the league recently, Ryan Garbutt is in coach Lindy Ruff's doghouse.

"We talked about the discipline. That discipline hurt us in the game. I told him I don’t want anymore," Ruff said, speaking of Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Red Wings where the forward saw his ice time shrink from 13:35 on average this season to just 5:04. GM Jim Nills has already shook up his blue line, this might be Garbutt's swan song if he doesn't shape up.
