If GM Jim Rutherford has it his way, Justin Schultz won't be going anywhere this summer.

We have not [discussed an extension with Justin Schultz], but he will definitely be a priority for us in the offseason." A restricted free agent this summer, the 26-year-old has been resurgent with Pittsburgh. Through 74 games now he has 10 goals and 47 points along with 50 hits and 81 blocks. He's been a boon to their power play behind Kris Letang, posting a goal and 13 points this season with the man-advantage. Making just $1.4M this season, Schultz should see a nice raise for his contributions to the club.

Justin Schultz (concussion) took part in Thursday's practice.

Schultz is hoping to get the green light to return on Saturday. He's missed the Penguins' last three games.
Feb 23 - 1:53 PM

There is no timetable for the return of Justin Schultz from his concussion.

There never is with concussions as some can return after a week and others find that they never recover. The Penguins lost both Schultz and Olli Maatta on Thursday and while Maatta is out six weeks after hand surgery Friday, GM Jim Rutherford is hoping Schultz is back sooner. "It’s hard to tell with a concussion, but I would suspect [Schultz] will be quite a bit ahead of where Maatta is," Rutherford said. Stay tuned as Schultz is having a career year with nine goals, 39 points and a plus-31 rating in 56 games.
Feb 19 - 8:28 AM

Justin Schultz has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Schultz suffered the injury during Thursday's game. Concussions don't tend to conform to timetables, so there's no telling how long he'll be sidelined for. He'll be missed for however long he's gone, especially given the great season he's having. He has nine goals, 39 points, and a plus-31 rating in 56 contests.
Feb 17 - 5:08 PM

After leaving Thursday's match against Winnipeg early on Thursday with an undisclosed injury, Justin Schultz is considered questionable for Friday's match against Columbus.

Pittsburgh has already called up a pair of reinforcements from the AHL, so it's looking less and less likely the talented blue liner will play tonight. Tack on Olli Maatta's absence and the Penguins may be ever-more inclined to be cautious. We'll keep you posted.
Feb 17 - 2:25 PM

Justin Schultz exited Thursday's game early after he was crunched into the boards by Winnipeg's Dustin Byfuglien.

He logged just 8:40 of ice time in the match. Schultz may have hurt his head or neck on the play. An update on his status was not provided following the game and his status for Friday night may not become clear until closer to puck drop.
Feb 17 - 10:40 AM

Justin Schultz netted a goal and an assist in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Boston Bruins.

Schultz did all of his damage in the first period, as he helped the Pens build up a 2-0 lead. Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, the Bruins managed to score four consecutive goals in the second and third periods. Schultz has been one of the pleasant fantasy surprises in 2016-17. He now has eight goals, 35 points and a plus-27 rating in 48 contests. Patric Hornqvist also scored in the loss.
Jan 26 - 10:16 PM

Justin Schultz contributed two assists in Friday's 7-1 victory against Carolina.

He has produced 32 points in just 45 games this season. Schultz had a personal best 33 points in 2013-14 with Edmonton and he should surpass that mark easily this year.
Jan 21 - 9:37 AM

Justin Schultz had four assists in Monday's 8-7 victory over Washington.

That's a new career-high for assists in a single game for Schultz. It's the latest in what's been a strong campaign for him though as he has seven goals and 30 points in 43 contests. To put that in context, Schultz has never registered more than 33 points in a single season.
Jan 17 - 4:57 AM

Don't be surprised to see Justin Schultz and Kris Letang together on the first power play.

The Penguins have gone with four forwards and Letang for a long time but the emergence of Schultz in the last five weeks has changed some plans, especially when he played so well with Letang out of the lineup. "I think these guys are both very capable guys," coach Mike Sullivan said. "We might use both of them on the unit. ‘Tanger’ is obviously an elite defenseman and has been such a big part of this team in every aspect, the power play being one of them. Justin, in ‘Tanger’s’ absence, has done a really good job and helped the power play continue to grow and get better. We feel as though we can keep both of those guys in the mix. It might give us an opportunity to manage minutes better and to make sure that we allow the recovery time for those guys so that they can be at their best. I think it gives us more versatility and more options, depending on the struggles or challenges that we face." Schultz has seven goals and 25 points in 39 games with a plus-24 rating.
