Phil Varone is expected to be sent to the minors if he clears waivers.

The Senators have traveled to Vancouver for Tuesday's contest, but Varone didn't go with them. He's been a healthy scratch twice so far this season, so at least in the minors he'll be playing regularly.
Oct 24 - 10:55 AM

The Ottawa Senators have waived Phil Varone.

The 25-year-old has just 10 points in 46 career NHL games, though he produces at about a point-per-game clip down on the farm. If he's able to get hot down there, don't be surprised to see him back up with the big club before long.
Oct 23 - 12:30 PM

Phil Varone has landed a spot on Ottawa's roster going into the season.

He was productive in the preseason with seven points in five contests. Varone may play alongside Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Tom Pyatt in Wednesday's opener against Toronto.

Despite leading the Senators in pre-season scoring with six points in three games, Phil Varone remains a long shot to crack Ottawa's lineup.

With the injury to Mark Stone, Varone is getting the chance to play alongside Kyle Turris and Mike Hoffman, which has really helped his production. However, unless Stone, Curtis Lazar and Clarke MacArthur remain out of action for a prolonged period of time, there doesn't appear to be a spot for Varone.

Oct 2 - 10:59 AM

Phil Varone amassed two goals and two assists in Ottawa's 6-3 win over Toronto in preseason action on Monday night.

He inked a one-year contract with the Senators in the summer after he finished the 2015-16 campaign with Ottawa. Varone wasn't able to stick with the Sabres four-plus years with the organization. He is hoping to land a spot with the Senators this season, but it wouldn't be surprising if he spent most of the year in the minors.
Sep 27 - 10:53 AM

The Ottawa Senators have re-signed Phil Varone to a one-year/$700,000 contract.

Varone was dealt to the Senators from Buffalo after picking up a goal and two points in five games for the Sabres. He will likely see bottom-six minutes and should not be drafted or thought of at this time.
Jul 1 - 1:47 PM

Phil Varone was recalled from Binghamton of the AHL on Friday.

He will suit up for the Sens against the Bruins in Saturday afternoon's season finale. Varone registered 19 points in 18 games in the AHL this season and had a goal and an assist in five games with the Sabres. Varone will play on the Sens' fourth line with Chris Neil and Buddy Robinson and has no fantasy value at the moment.
Apr 9 - 10:50 AM

Phil Varone,Jason Akeson and Jerome Leduc were sent to Ottawa for Alex Guptil, Eric O’Dell, Cole Schneider, and Michael Sdao.

Unfortunately there's no fantasy value to speak of here. Varone has posted another quality season down on the farm in Rochester with 12 goals and 29 points in 43 games. But he's got just nine points in 42 career NHL games, indicating his skills have yet to translate.
Feb 27 - 9:54 PM

The Buffalo Sabres have assigned Phil Varone to the minors.

The 25-year-old had one assist in one game during his recent stint with the Sabres. He won't have any fantasy value going forward.
Feb 13 - 6:00 PM

Phil Varone has been summoned by the Buffalo Sabres.

Varone has 12 goals and 26 points in 38 AHL contests this season. He's been called up because Daniel Catenacci is out with a possible concussion.
Feb 12 - 5:25 PM

Phil Varone has been assigned to Rochester of the AHL.

He has chipped in one goal in four NHL outings this campaign, while picking up 19 points over 33 matches in the minors.
Jan 27 - 1:39 PM

Phil Varone and Carlo Colaiacovo will each be scratched against the Senators on Tuesday night.

Through 41 career NHL games, the 25-year-old Varone has just eight points, 16 PIMs, 20 blocks, and 40 hits. Not much value there, unfortunately.
Jan 26 - 7:27 PM

Phil Varone netted a goal in his NHL season debut on Saturday.

Varone had 10 goals and 19 points in 33 AHL contests in 2015-16 going into Saturday's contest. Although his goal came midway through the first period, he still ended up only getting 8:01 minutes of ice time. He was helping fill the void left by Zemgus Girgensons, who is dealing with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day, so it's possible that Varone will be sent back to the minors soon despite scoring a goal if Girgensons is available on Monday.
Jan 17 - 9:49 AM

Phil Varone was called up from the minors on Saturday January 16.

It was a great seasonal debut for Varone as he opened the scoring in a 4-1 Buffalo win. The forward had five points in 28 games last season with Buffalo and it certainly off to a nice start in 2015-16.
