Phil Varone and Carlo Colaiacovo will each be scratched against the Senators on Tuesday night.

Through 41 career NHL games, the 25-year-old Varone has just eight points, 16 PIMs, 20 blocks, and 40 hits. Not much value there, unfortunately.
Jan 26 - 7:27 PM

Phil Varone netted a goal in his NHL season debut on Saturday.

Varone had 10 goals and 19 points in 33 AHL contests in 2015-16 going into Saturday's contest. Although his goal came midway through the first period, he still ended up only getting 8:01 minutes of ice time. He was helping fill the void left by Zemgus Girgensons, who is dealing with an upper-body injury and is day-to-day, so it's possible that Varone will be sent back to the minors soon despite scoring a goal if Girgensons is available on Monday.
Jan 17 - 9:49 AM

Phil Varone was called up from the minors on Saturday January 16.

It was a great seasonal debut for Varone as he opened the scoring in a 4-1 Buffalo win. The forward had five points in 28 games last season with Buffalo and it certainly off to a nice start in 2015-16.
Jan 17 - 3:22 AM

Phil Varone has signed a one-year, $600,000 contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Varone had three goals and five points in 28 games with the Sabres in 2014-15. He had an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 27, but that's obviously not needed now.

Buffalo Sabres RFA forward Phil Varone filed for salary arbitration on Friday.

Since being drafted 147th overall in 2009, Varone has seen just 37 games worth of NHL action. Also, his Entry Level Contract just ran out where he was hitting the cap at $586.6K while up with the Sabres, and making $62.5K while playing with AHL Rochester where he scored 15 goals and 44 points in 55 games. It's fair to expect a modest raise for the 24-year-old.

Phil Varone had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Friday.

Varone got some playing time with Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis. He's worth keeping an eye on as long as that's the case, although it's hard to recommend any forward on the offensively anemic Sabres. Varone has three goals and four points in 11 contests this season.

Phil Varone got to center Buffalo's top line on Tuesday night.

With Zemgus Girgensons injured, Varone played between Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson. He's expected to be with the team for the remainder of the season after the Sabres opened up roster spots at the trade deadline. He has two goals in 10 games this season with Buffalo.

Phil Varone has been called up by Buffalo.

He has two goals in seven outings with the Sabres this season. Varone has 14 goals and 43 points in 52 games with Rochester. Buffalo needed some reinforcements after losing Tyler Ennis and Zemgus Girgensons to injuries on Tuesday.

Phil Varone has returned to AHL Rochester.

Buffalo won't play again until Jan. 27, so it doesn't make much sense for the Sabres to keep Varone on their active roster. He has two goals in seven games with Buffalo this season.

24-year-old Phil Varone scored twice in his second game of the season on Thursday night in a 5-2 loss to Carolina.

Varone powered the Sabres offense himself in a lackluster game for Buffalo against a fellow Eastern Conference bottom-feeder. The rookie had 29 points in 35 games before his call-up. He scored his first NHL goal last season, but Thursday night notched his second and third goals of his 11 game career.

Phil Varone will make his season debut with Buffalo against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

He will play between Cody Hodgson and Brian Flynn. "His dad was a great skills coach that I had growing up," Hodgson said of Varone. "He worked on power skating and some hands stuff, and that's exactly what Phil is textbook at. He's a real sweet passer, and I'm excited to play with him." Varone has 21 assists in 35 games with Rochester this campaign.

The Buffalo Sabres recalled Phil Varone from the AHL.

Varone hasn't played a game this season, but he did have one goal and one assist in nine games with the Sabres last season.
