Danny DeKeyser notched two assists in the Wings' 6-4 loss to San Jose on Thursday night.

DeKeyser's helpers came within a minute of each other to tie the game up at two in the first period, but Detroit could not keep up the pace. The 25-year-old has 27 points in 71 games this season.

Danny DeKeyser contributed two assists in Detroit's 3-2 win over San Jose.

He had the secondary helpers on third-period goals by Pavel Datsyuk and Luke Glendening. DeKeyser entered the match with two assists in his previous 13 outings. He hasn't scored a goal since Dec. 23 and has 23 points in 58 games. Needless to say, DeKeyser shouldn't be on your roster if you are looking for offense.

Danny DeKeyser continues to earn plenty of praise from coach Mike Babcock this season.

"He makes the least mistakes of anybody on our back end," said Babcock. "He's an elite skater, he's got an elite mind, he's ultra competitive, he comes every day ready to play." The 24-year-old blueliner has just 129 NHL games under his belt. However, his value in fantasy hockey will probably remain limited because of his offensive contributions. He has two goals, 21 points and 66 shots in 53 matches.

Red Wings' head coach Mike Babcock has been impressed with the way Danny DeKeyser has developed offensively.

The 24-year-old has produced a solid two goals and 15 points in 37 games, but even the Wings admit they never saw it coming. "I saw him play nine times in college, and I never saw him do any of that, to be honest with you," Babcock said. "We didn't really expect that, we expected a guy who skated really good, had a great stick, was real good defensively, and obviously he moves the puck better than we anticipated. He's got a long way to go to get to be a star on the offensive blue line, but he's such a good player, he's such a high-end player with great hockey IQ that he makes good decisions for us." DeKeyser's arrow seems to be point up.

Danny DeKeyser is projected to play on the point in the Red Wings' second power-play unit on Monday.

DeKeyser is doing so because Jakub Kindl is dealing with an elbow injury. It's not clear how long Kindl will be sidelined for, but he'll miss Monday's game at the least. DeKeyser has two goals and 13 points in 34 games in 2014-15.

DeKeyser missed Friday's game and will sit out Saturday's contest with an upper-body injury. The good news is that it looks as if he is progressing quickly in his recovery and is listed as probable for Tuesday night's game against the Blue Jackets. Xavier Ouellet, who fills in admirably whenever the Wings have an injured d-man, will likey be returned to the AHL upon DeKeyser's return.

Ken Holland decided to meet with his scouts earlier than usual this week.

"Just thought it would be good to touch base now," Holland said, "instead of waiting till late January." The trade deadline isn't for three months, but the Red Wings find themselves in need for another right hander or three. "Would I like two or three more right shots? Absolutely, whether up front or on defense," Holland said. Consider this just due-diligence.

Dan DeKeyser has been the only defenseman, other than Niklas Kronwall, who has been seeing regular ice time on the power play.

It hasn't translated into any points yet for DeKeyser, but he does have three assists in eight games this season. The Red Wings like the way he moves the puck and believe there is more offense for him to give.
