Dan DeKeyser isn't worried about his contract situation.

He remains a restricted free agent with training camp just over a month away. "I don't really think about it very much, other than that I'm pretty confident a deal will get done before training camp," DeKeyser said. "And it's just something that my agent and Kenny deal with mostly."

Restricted free agents Dan DeKeyser and Tomas Tatar, both important players with the Red Wings, are not close to re-signing with the club.

"We’ve talked and continue to talk, but nothing close," Detroit general manager Ken Holland said. Holland said he made Tatar an offer recently that is being mulled over. "Tats is overseas, and I’m waiting to hear back. On the DeKeyser front, we met them in early June. We talked briefly at the draft, and we haven’t really talked much in July. I’ve made what I think are pretty good offers. They haven’t really countered. We’re just in the waiting process." DeKeyser, 24, scored four goals and 19 assists for 23 points in 65 games last season, his first full one in the NHL. He had no points in five playoff games. Tatar, 23, has 24 goals and 23 assists for 47 points in 100 career NHL games. In his first full season with the Wings last season, he scored 19 goals and 20 assists for 39 points in 73 games.

The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association has named Dan DeKeyser the Red Wings rookie of the year.

"We had a lot of rookies in the lineup on a regular basis this season, so it's a great honor to be recognized as rookie of the year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association," DeKeyser said. "Being able to play here in Detroit in front of my friends and family made this season very special, and it's a privilege to be acknowledged by the DSBA with so many other worthy candidates who were able to help the team this year." In 65 games, he produced four goals, 23 points and a plus-10 rating. He averaged 21:38 of ice time per match, which ranked him second on the team.

Dan DeKeyser will make his national team debut as a player when he suits up for the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Championship next week.

He received an invite for Team USA's orientation camp last summer, but he wasn't chosen for the Sochi Olympics. Detroit coach Mike Babcock felt that DeKeyser "faded a bit in the playoffs," but he thought the young blueliner "was still strong." In his first full NHL season, he recorded 23 points and a plus-10 rating.

"I'm fine, it just happened, it's something that happens during the game and you deal with it," DeKeyser said. "Every now and then emotions run high during the game and stuff happens." The Detroit defenseman said he didn't even know who was responsible for the incident until after the game when he saw the replay.

Defenseman Dan DeKeyser has recovered from his shoulder injury and will be in the lineup for Detroit when the Red Wings visit the Maple Leafs in Toronto tonight.

DeKeyser missed 15 games with a shoulder separation. "I’m excited about it, I’m ready to go," DeKeyser said. "It’s been a month, but it feels a lot longer than that just sitting around. It’ll be difficult at first, but I just have to get back to game speed. It’s been a while since I’ve played, so I want to play as close as before I got hurt as I can."
