Danny DeKeyser and a number of the other Detroit defensemen have struggled so far this season.
DeKeyser was stripped of the puck which led to a goal in Saturday night's 4-1 loss to Florida. Detroit Jeff Blashill has not been impressed with his blueline to date. When asked if he liked any of his pairings, Blashill had this to say: "None of them enough. Jonathan Ericsson has been very good in two games, Xavier Ouellet has been very good in two games. Mike Green for large portions has been good." That's it. Basically, DeKeyser, Brendan Smith and Aleksey Marchenko need to improve or else they may find themselves in the press box once Niklas Kronwall is healthy enough to play. Oct 16 - 9:53 AM

He averaged 21:48 minutes of ice time per game last season, while contributing eight goals and 20 points in 78 matches. DeKeyser has become a top-four defender for the Red Wings, but he still has work to do before he becomes a viable player in fantasy leagues.

Danny DeKeyser's arbitration hearing is set for Thursday, but an agreement on a long-term deal could be finalized before that.

"Ideally, Danny would like to do a longer-term deal. The club would like to do a longer-term deal," GM Ken Holland said. "Since they filed, this period of negotiation and time to do your brief for an arbitration hearing has mostly been about discussions on a longer-term deal. We talked Thursday, we talked Friday, we're going to talk again today." He can only receive a one-year deal if his case is heard.

DeKeyser is eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 1. He had eight goals and 20 points in 78 contests in 2015-16. "I'm sure talks will get moving more towards the end of the month or into July as we get going," he said. "I don't expect it to drag out real long. Hopefully it gets done sooner rather than later."

Danny DeKeyser picked up a pair of assists in Sunday's 6-5 win over Boston.

The helpers bring his total up to 10 on the season with 17 points. Quite the drop off from 29 assists and 31 points achieved last season. But still at just age-25, there's plenty of room for growth.

Danny DeKeyser (knee) is fine to play Friday night.

There was some initial concern about his availability because he was struck in the knee by a Dion Phaneuf shot in the third period of Wednesday's game. However, while the shot struck a nerve, the injury didn't prove to be substantial.

Feb 11 - 1:10 PM

Danny DeKeyser left Wednesday's game versus Ottawa early in the third period after taking a Dion Phaneuf slapshot to his right knee.

"It's not a break by any means, but a bruise and it was sore; it hit in a spot that will be painful," coach Jeff Blashill said. "He'll be day to day. We'll see (Thursday) where it's at but he couldn't put any weight on it to finish the game." DeKeyser scored his seventh goal of the season to open the scoring in the first period.

Danny DeKeyser has earned a point in each of his last three games, but he's looking forward to getting some rest over the All-Star break.

Jan 27 - 10:07 AM

Danny DeKeyser picked up his fifth goal of the season during Saturday's 4-3 loss to Anaheim.

Danny DeKeyser found where Mamma hides the cookies, winning Thursday's match with Arizona 3-2 in overtime.

The Red Wings were down 2-0 heading into the final frame before sending the game into overtime. DeKeyser was the lucky recipient of Dylan Larkin's ability to weave through traffic, and he used an Arizona defender as a screen for the winner as well. Now with 11 points in 40 games DeKeyser still belongs on the wire, but the highlight itself is worth checking out.
