The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association has named Dan DeKeyser the Red Wings rookie of the year.
"We had a lot of rookies in the lineup on a regular basis this season, so it's a great honor to be recognized as rookie of the year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association," DeKeyser said. "Being able to play here in Detroit in front of my friends and family made this season very special, and it's a privilege to be acknowledged by the DSBA with so many other worthy candidates who were able to help the team this year." Dan DeKeyser will make his national team debut as a player when he suits up for the United States at the 2014 IIHF World Championship next week.

He received an invite for Team USA's orientation camp last summer, but he wasn't chosen for the Sochi Olympics. Detroit coach Mike Babcock felt that DeKeyser "faded a bit in the playoffs," but he thought the young blueliner "was still strong." In his first full NHL season, he recorded 23 points and a plus-10 rating.

"I'm fine, it just happened, it's something that happens during the game and you deal with it," DeKeyser said. "Every now and then emotions run high during the game and stuff happens." The Detroit defenseman said he didn't even know who was responsible for the incident until after the game when he saw the replay.

Dan DeKeyser escaped serious injury after taking a skate blade to the lip during Friday night's 2-1 shootout win over Edmonton.

He needed a few stitches to close the cut but returned to the game after missing some time in the first period. DeKeyser should be fine for Sunday night's game against the Blackhawks.

Defenseman Dan DeKeyser has recovered from his shoulder injury and will be in the lineup for Detroit when the Red Wings visit the Maple Leafs in Toronto tonight.

DeKeyser missed 15 games with a shoulder separation. "I’m excited about it, I’m ready to go," DeKeyser said. "It’s been a month, but it feels a lot longer than that just sitting around. It’ll be difficult at first, but I just have to get back to game speed. It’s been a while since I’ve played, so I want to play as close as before I got hurt as I can."

Dan DeKeyser (shoulder) is hoping to get clearance Thursday evening to return to Detroit's lineup.

"I feel great," DeKeyser said. "Some stuff is going to come back to me when I start playing as far as maybe being in game shape and that kind of thing, but I'm skating well and moving the puck well; I'm shooting well, so I feel really good." He isn't sure if he'll play Saturday against Toronto, but he isn't ruling it out.

Dan DeKeyser (shoulder) is eligible to come off injured reserve this weekend, but he isn't ready to play against Pittsburgh on Saturday.

However, he is feeling much better and he isn't far away from getting back in the lineup. "Starting to feel a lot better, shooting the puck well, starting to take some slap shots and just getting more comfortable with the shoulder," DeKeyser said. "It'll still be a little bit, hopefully not too much longer. I don't have an exact time, just going to take it day by day." He has nine points and a plus-5 rating in 22 games.

Dan DeKeyser (shoulder) practiced Wednesday in Detroit's optional session.

It marked his first appearance on the ice since Nov. 19 when he suffered a separated shoulder. "I was off the ice for two weeks, so my legs and lungs aren't what they were," DeKeyser said. "I want to make sure I'm in the best shape I can be when I come back. (Wednesday) was the first real practice I've had. I'm just starting to pass the puck, can't shoot quite yet, that'll come over time with strength." DeKeyser isn't eligible to come off long-term injured reserve until Dec. 14.

Dan DeKeyser has been placed on the long-term injured reserve list with a sprained shoulder.

DeKeyser is expected to be out for the next four-to-six weeks. The good news is that he won't require surgery.

Dan DeKeyser is projected to miss one to two weeks with a shoulder injury.

He sustained the ailment during the first period of Tuesday's loss to Nashville. DeKeyser had been playing well prior to getting hurt with a goal and three assists in his previous four games.
