Sproul got into the lineup because the Wings decided to give Niklas Kronwall some rest. The goal was the first of his career. Sproul did all his damage in the third period, as he cut Tampa's lead to 3-2. He also helped set up Henrik Zetterberg's game-tying goal. Both his points came on the power play. Ryan Sproul has been instructed to find a place in Detroit.

That's good news for anyone looking to watch the talented young blue liner. He has just nine games of NHL experience, four this season, and two points. We wouldn't pick him up just yet, but don't hesitate if he gets hot.

Ryan Sproul impressed Red Wing coach Jeff Blashill with his play Saturday night against San Jose.

Sproul had been a healthy scratch in four of the six Red Wings' games thus far. Blashill was pleased with Sproul's effort Saturday, though. "If he competes that hard, plays with that type aggressiveness defensively, he’s going to be real good player", said Blashill. This performance could lead to more starts for the 23-year-old rearguard. Sproul has some modest offensive ability so watch him for now.

Ryan Sproul will serve as a healthy scratch against the Senators on Monday.

Ryan Sproul is hoping to "step up" during Red Wings training camp.

"They are looking for guys to step up here in this camp and that's my goal, step up, and make it hard for them to send me down or even put me on waivers in the first place," Sproul said after practice at Centre Ice Arena. "I need to definitely be shooting the puck in the preseason a lot and using that to my advantage." Sproul produced 12 goals and 35 points in 75 games in the AHL last year, but failed to earn a look in Detroit. The fact that he has to go through waivers if he's sent down to the minors might play in his favor.

Ryan Sproul has agreed to a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

In the first season of Sproul's deal, it's two-ways and he can earn $600,000 annually at the NHL level. However, it becomes a one-way contract for the second campaign, so he'll earn $650,000 regardless of where he plays. He had 12 goals and 35 points in 75 AHL contests in 2015-16.

Ryan Sproul is a restricted free agent with an uncertain future with the Red Wings.

He needs to get a new contract worked out first and then he has to really rise in the ranks because he probably isn't higher than eighth on the depth chart. Sproul recorded 12 goals and 35 points in 75 games for Grand Rapids last season, but he can't return to the AHL this year without clearing waivers first. He has just one game of NHL experience in his career.

Ryan Sproul and Nick Jensen may be in the mix for a roster spot next year on Detroit.

They both would have to clear waivers to be sent down to the minors, so they should get long looks at training camp. Sproul has only one game of NHL experience, but he played very well for Grand Rapids in 2015-16. He notched 12 goals and 35 points in 75 games during the regular season and he added nine points in nine matches during the playoffs.

Sproul recorded 11 goals and 32 points in 72 games with AHL Grand Rapids this season and he appeared in one contest with Detroit.
