Ryan Sproul scored a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sproul got into the lineup because the Wings decided to give Niklas Kronwall some rest. The goal was the first of his career. Ryan Sproul has been instructed to find a place in Detroit.

That's good news for anyone looking to watch the talented young blue liner. He has just nine games of NHL experience, four this season, and two points. We wouldn't pick him up just yet, but don't hesitate if he gets hot.

Ryan Sproul impressed Red Wing coach Jeff Blashill with his play Saturday night against San Jose.

Sproul had been a healthy scratch in four of the six Red Wings' games thus far. Blashill was pleased with Sproul's effort Saturday, though. "If he competes that hard, plays with that type aggressiveness defensively, he’s going to be real good player", said Blashill. This performance could lead to more starts for the 23-year-old rearguard. Sproul has some modest offensive ability so watch him for now.

Ryan Sproul is hoping to "step up" during Red Wings training camp.

"They are looking for guys to step up here in this camp and that's my goal, step up, and make it hard for them to send me down or even put me on waivers in the first place," Sproul said after practice at Centre Ice Arena. "I need to definitely be shooting the puck in the preseason a lot and using that to my advantage." Sproul produced 12 goals and 35 points in 75 games in the AHL last year, but failed to earn a look in Detroit. The fact that he has to go through waivers if he's sent down to the minors might play in his favor.

Ryan Sproul has agreed to a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.

In the first season of Sproul's deal, it's two-ways and he can earn $600,000 annually at the NHL level. However, it becomes a one-way contract for the second campaign, so he'll earn $650,000 regardless of where he plays. He had 12 goals and 35 points in 75 AHL contests in 2015-16.

MLive.com expects Ryan Sproul to sign a one-year deal before the start of training camp.

Sproul is the only remaining RFA left for Detroit to sign. The 23-year-old has played just one NHL game and it was back in 2013-14. The young defenseman scored 12 goals and 35 points in 75 games with the AHL Grand Rapids. Sproul is out of options, which means he'll have to go through waivers to be sent back down to the AHL.
