Jason Zucker, who spent a fair part of his childhood in Las Vegas and has an offseason home there, was protected by the Minnesota Wild.
There was some talk about the potential of Zucker ending up with the Golden Knights given his Vegas roots, but the Wild aren't inclined to lose the 25-year-old forward. He's coming off a campaign where he set career-highs with 22 goals and 47 points in 79 contests. "This is exactly what I wanted," Zucker said after finding out he was protected. "I want to be with Minnesota. I think if later on in my career I decide I want to go home and play, that’s great, but right now, I don’t have any desire to do that. I love being in Minnesota. I think we have a team that can win, and that’s the biggest key. It’s a great group of guys and it’s exactly where I want to be." Jun 19 - 9:51 AM

Zucker gave the Wild some hope, as he was able to tie the game with 5:01 remaining in regulation to force overtime. Unfortunately for the Wild, Blues forward Magnus Paajarvi scored the game-winning goal in overtime to eliminate the Wild in five games. It’s a disappointing ending for Minnesota. The Wild were a great team for most of the season, but they collapsed after the trade deadline. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of changes they make to their roster and/or front office during the off-season. Ryan Suter and Mikko Koivu also scored in the loss.
