The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Matt Tennyson to a one-year, two-way contract.
The deal will pay Tennyson $675,000 if he sticks in the NHL and $275,000 if he's in the AHL. The 26-year-old had one goal and four points in 29 games with the San Jose Sharks in 2015-16. It looks like Matt Tennyson will be a healthy scratch in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final against the Blues on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old played in 29 games with the Sharks this season, but he's yet to play in a postseason game this spring. Dylan DeMelo, Ryan Carpenter, Mirco Mueller, Nikolay Goldobin and Barclay Goodrow, Aaron Dell and Micheal Haley are expected to join him as the other scratches.

Matt Tennyson (concussion) took part in the Sharks morning skate prior to their game Tuesday night.

There is no timetable forward for Tennyson's return even though he also skated last week. He has been out of action since February 22 as a result of a hit from behind from Ryan Reeves of the St. Louis Blues. In 29 games this season, he has posted one goal and four points for the Sharks.

"Just seeing him around here is nice," Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said. "He’s looking better visually, and talking to him he’s feeling better every day. It’s good to see him back." There's no timetable for Tennyson's return and that's typical when it comes to concussions. However, the fact that he has resumed skating is obviously a very encouraging step.

Matt Tennyson's upper-body injury is unfortunately likely a concussion.

Tennyson was hit from behind by Ryan Reaves in the first period of Monday's contest. Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said after the contest that the 25-year-old defenseman was "probably concussed." If his injury does turn out to be a concussion, then there's no telling how long he will be sidelined for.

Tennyson was involved in a scary incident in the opening period, when he was hit from behind by Ryan Reaves. Even though the Sharks haven't ruled him out completely, don't expect Tennyson to return to this game. Reaves was given a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct.
