The New York Rangers have signed Paul Carey to a one-year, two-way contract.

Carey comes with a $650,000 annual cap hit at the NHL level and he'll earn $400,000 if he plays in the minors. He had 24 goals and 55 points in 55 AHL contests in 2016-17. He's also recorded a goal and an assist in 32 career NHL games.

That was expected as there's no reason for another team to claim him mere months before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He'll report to AHL Hershey to help them in their postseason run.

"What we’re trying to do, he’ll be a real good fit," Trotz said of Carey. "He’s a hard worker. I just think he’ll get an opportunity. He hasn’t had that opportunity. When he’s gone in he’s done a great job. Just looking for a little bit of a fit." Carey has 32 career games under his belt, split with the Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals.
