The Washington Capitals have put Paul Carey on waivers.

Carey is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Assuming he clears, he'll presumably be sent to AHL Hershey to participate in their playoff run.

It appears Paul Carey will make his 2017 playoff debut in Game 2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday night.

"What we’re trying to do, he’ll be a real good fit," Trotz said of Carey. "He’s a hard worker. I just think he’ll get an opportunity. He hasn’t had that opportunity. When he’s gone in he’s done a great job. Just looking for a little bit of a fit." Carey has 32 career games under his belt, split with the Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals. The Caps are hurting up front as T.J. Oshie and Tom Wilson were both hurt on Saturday. Carey had 10 goals and 25 points in 28 games with Hershey this season but is pointless in three games with the Capitals earlier this season. He will draw into the lineup if Oshie and/or Wilson are unable to suit up.

Paul Carey will skate on the third line against Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Carey will skate to the left of Lars Eller and Justin Williams. The 27-year-old has just two points in 27 career NHL games, so despite his quality of linemates, we wouldn't expect much from him unfortunately.

Paul Carey (illness) practiced with the Capitals on Friday.

Carey didn't practice or play on Thursday due to the disease, but if he's healthy enough to be on the ice Friday then he's probably fine going forward. He's only played in one game with the Capitals so far this season.
