Paul Carey found the back of the net in the Rangers' 3-2 overtime win against Buffalo on Monday.

It was Carey's fifth goal and ninth point in 27 contests. Those aren't bad numbers given that Carey has been averaging less than 10 minutes per game this season. He was on the ice for a modest 9:50 minutes on Monday.

Paul Carey scored a pair of goals in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Carey opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period before adding another tally in the second period to give New York a 3-0 lead at the time. This was Carey's first multi-point effort of his NHL career. The Rangers forward has four goals and seven points in 22 games this season. Kevin Hayes and Michael Grabner also scored the Rangers in this one.

The New York Rangers have signed Paul Carey to a one-year, two-way contract.

Carey comes with a $650,000 annual cap hit at the NHL level and he'll earn $400,000 if he plays in the minors. He had 24 goals and 55 points in 55 AHL contests in 2016-17. He's also recorded a goal and an assist in 32 career NHL games.

That was expected as there's no reason for another team to claim him mere months before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. He'll report to AHL Hershey to help them in their postseason run.

Carey is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Assuming he clears, he'll presumably be sent to AHL Hershey to participate in their playoff run.

It appears Paul Carey will make his 2017 playoff debut in Game 2 against the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday night.

"What we’re trying to do, he’ll be a real good fit," Trotz said of Carey. "He’s a hard worker. I just think he’ll get an opportunity. He hasn’t had that opportunity. When he’s gone in he’s done a great job. Just looking for a little bit of a fit." Carey has 32 career games under his belt, split with the Colorado Avalanche and the Washington Capitals. He will take Brett Connolly's spot in the lineup and play alongside Jay Beagle and Daniel Winnik.
