Paul Carey found the net in the third period en route to the Washington Capitals' 2-1 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues in an exhibition game Monday night.

Carey, who had a goal in four games with Washington last season, scored early in the third period to tie the game, leading to overtime and the shootout. Dmitrij Jaskin gave the Blues the 1-0 lead with his second goal of the preseason on a power play at 14:13 of the first period. Washington's goalies played well, with Philipp Grubauer a perfect 7-for-7 while star goalie Braden Holtby was 13-for-14. Carter Hutton had a stellar night in the St. Louis net, as well, stopping 37 of the 38 shots he faced in regulation and overtime.
