The Ottawa Senators have assigned Frederik Claesson to the AHL.

The 23-year-old has coughed the puck up in his own zone a few times during his stint with the Sens this season. He has no points and a minus-8 rating in eight contests.

Look for Fredrik Claesson to draw into the Ottawa lineup Saturday afternoon against Los Angeles.

He will take the place of Chris Wideman and partner with Erik Karlsson. Not a bad gig at all. That said, we don't believe Claesson, who has registered no points in six NHL games, has any fantasy value at this time.

Fredrik Claesson may be heading for the press box on Wednesday.

He posted a minus-2 rating and dropped to 14:37 of ice time on Sunday versus Washington. Claesson has a minus-6 rating and no points in six games, while Chris Wideman and Jared Cowen await chances to step back into the lineup.

Fredrik Claesson started Thursday's game alongside Erik Karlsson for a fourth consecutive game.

Coach Dave Cameron has shown more trust in minor-league call up Fredrik Claesson than Jared Cowen, who has been scratch for four straight games. The return of Cody Ceci on Thursday night made Chris Wideman a scratch, so that Claesson could remain in the lineup. Unfortunately, Claesson hasn't done anything yet to show that he can be an asset in fantasy hockey.
Jan 8 - 8:35 AM

Fredrik Claesson played in his first NHL game Wednesday night and he was paired with Erik Karlsson.

He replaced Jared Cowen in the lineup after he was recalled from the minors. Claesson had had one shot in 12:20 of ice time against New Jersey in a 3-0 loss.

Fredrik Claesson has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract extension with Ottawa.

He will earn $600,000 at the NHL level and $85,000 in the AHL. Claesson recorded 19 points in 76 games with the Senators' minor-league affiliate this past season. The fifth-round pick of Ottawa in the 2011 draft has played the last three campaigns in the AHL and he doesn't have any NHL experience yet.

Fredrik Claesson will not be heading to France for Binghamton Senators’ training camp.

With defensemen Marc Methot and Eric Gryba sidelined due to injury, the Senators need Claesson on the blue line right now. "This experience is great for him," said Binghamton head coach Luke Richardson. "Freddy’s done real well, it’s just going to continue for him to go up and up." When the Senators’ blue liners return to full health, Claesson will probably be sent down to the AHL. The 21-year-old had a strong season with Binghamton last season. He registered 3 goals, 29 points and a plus-37 rating in 75 games.

Binghamtom Senators defenseman Fredrik Claesson is adjusting well to the North American style of play.

Claesson was Ottawa's fifth-round pick in the 2011 draft, but rather than spend another season in the Swedish Elite League, he expressed desire to play in the AHL to learn how hockey is played on this side of the pond. With no goals and five assists in 14 games, he's not exactly reminding anyone of Bobby Orr, but thanks to his size and toughness he could carve out a role as a shutdown rearguard with Ottawa.

The Senators selected him with the 126th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He had a goal and seven points in 47 Swedish Elite League games in 2011-12.
