The prevailing thought was that Darcy Kuemper would be recalled to play one of the two games the Wild have Sunday and Monday but Kuemper is hurting so Gustafsson will stay while Josh Harding remains on the injured list. Whether Niklas Backstrom plays both games or Gustafsson makes his NHL debut is still up in the air at this time. The 21-year-old Gustafsson is in his first season in North America and was 4-4-0 with a 2.95 GAA and a .898 save percentage with Iowa of the AHL before his recall.

The Minnesota Wild have recalled goaltender Johan Gustafsson from the minors.

Gustafsson was recalled as Josh Harding was placed on the injured reserve list. He will serve as the backup to Niklas Backstrom but may not see any action in goal as the Wild could turn to Darcy Kuemper if they need to spell Backstrom next week. The 21-year-old Gustafsson is in his first season in North America and was 4-4-0 with a 2.95 GAA and a .898 save percentage with Iowa of the AHL before his recall.

Johan Gustafsson has inked a three-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild.

The Wild cut the deal close to the deadline, which was set for Friday, which would've made Gustafsson eligible to go back into the draft. The 20-year-old keeper helped Sweden win the gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships. Gustafsson earned a .932 save percentage and a 1.68 goals-against average in 29 games with Lulea HF in the Swedish Elite League last season.

Gustafsson was taken by Minnesota in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He's expected to spend the 2012-13 campaign in the Swedish Elite League. He had a 1.74 GAA and .929 save percentage in 29 SEL contests in 2011-12.
