Niklas Svedberg will stick with the Bruins so that he can serve as the team's backup goaltender on Wednesday.

Tuukka Rask will get Wednesday's game off entirely so that he can rest up after the Olympics. Svedberg has a 2.71 GAA and .910 save percentage in 35 AHL games in 2013-14.

Niklas Svedberg turned aside 32 of 35 shots for the Bruins en route to a 3-2 overtime win in his NHL debut.

Svedberg's first chance to get a taste of NHL action was postponed last week due to a roster crunch, but he finally got his opportunity on this night. He'll likely be reassigned again soon, but could be factor in goal in the long-term.

Niklas Svedberg has been called up by Boston and it looks like he'll start Thursday.

He was the first goalie off the ice at the team's morning skate, which indicates that he'll make his NHL debut against Nashville. Svedberg was expected to get a look with the big club last week, but some injuries forced Boston to reassign him to the minors.

Niklas Svedberg has been returned to the minors.

The Bruins wanted to take a look at the 24-year-old goaltender, but changed their plans after announcing that Dennis Seidenberg would be lost for the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury. Svedberg went down so that the team could bring up another defenseman, Zach Trotman, on an emergency basis.

Niklas Svedberg has been called up from the minors.

"We're going to have a look at him in the next little while here," coach Claude Julien said. "Not tonight, but maybe tomorrow or the game after. I think he's earned that. We told him that after having such a good camp that we'd bring him up at some point, get him some games. So that's what we're doing right now." He will serve as Tuukka Rask's backup in Friday's game versus Ottawa. He has posted an 11-5-3 record to go with a .907 save percentage and a 2.91 goals-against average in 20 games with AHL Providence this season.

Niklas Svedberg has been assigned to the minors.

He was in the running to serve as Tuukka Rask's backup, but that job will go to Chad Johnson. Svedberg will try to build on his excellent showing in the AHL last year. He posted 37 wins, .925 save percentage and a 2.17 GAA in 48 games with Providence in 2012-13 and it doesn't look like it will be long before he's at the NHL level.

Niklas Svedberg has made Boston's backup goaltender decision tougher.

It makes sense to send him down to the minors because he doesn't have to clear waivers and Chad Johnson comes at a cheaper cap hit, but Svedberg is still in contention to serve as Tuukka Rask's understudy. "You try to show your best game. I gave up three goals (in the preseason) and I could have given up zero," he said after making 26 stops in a 3-2 overtime win over Winnipeg. "But it feels good to get two wins and tonight was a good game, to get a full game and get the win."

Niklas Svedberg played well in Tuesday's exhibition game against Washington.

Tuukka Rask started the game and Svedberg finished it. He made six saves in the shootout to give the Bruins a 3-2 victory. Chad Johnson struggled in his Boston debut, allowing three goals on eight shots versus Montreal, so Svedberg may have taken a slight lead in the race to serve as Boston's backup goalie when the regular season begins.

During a press conference on Sunday, Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said that Niklas Svedberg has "earned a look" for the team's backup role.

With Anton Khudobin out of the mix, someone needs to step forward. Still, Chad Johnson was signed on a one-way deal, so it would probably work better for the organization if Svedberg continues his development in the AHL.

Niklas Svedberg is likely ticketed for more time in the AHL.

The Bruins signed Chad Johnson to a one-way deal, and even though the two will battle for the back-up job in training camp, it appears that the Bruins want to give the 23-year-old Svedberg more seasoning. He had a 2.17 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in the AHL last season.

Nicklas Svedberg may be Boston's backup goalie next season.

Current number two option Anton Khudobin could become an unrestricted free agent in July. Svedberg was excellent in the AHL this past campaign during his first taste of hockey in North America. He posted a 37-8-2 record with a 2.17 GAA, a .925 save percentage and four shutouts. Svedberg may be someone to keep an eye on going into next year.

Bruin goalie prospect Nicklas Svedberg was recalled from Providence of the AHL on Friday.

The Baby Bruins season is over and Svedberg will serve as an extra practice goalie. Svedberg is one of the better goalie prospects around so keep him in mind as a reserve pick for next season.

Niklas Svedberg made 29 saves in Providence's 2-1 loss to Portland on Wednesday night.

Boston's goalie prospect has generally been pretty solid this year, though his performance dipped a little over the past month. Perhaps this game will get him back on the right track. The 23-year-old has a 2.48 goals-against average and .920 save percentage on the year, to go witha 12-6-2-1 record.
