Niklas Svedberg stopped 25-28 shots Columubus sent his way, plus all seven shootout attempts on Friday night for the 4-3 win.
Despite allowing two goals in the first, it was a good start all in all. It takes some kind of talent to stop seven shootout attempts, let alone sequentially. Ryan Johansen, Cam Atkinson, Boone Jenner, and Nick Foligno were just a few of the shooters whom he stopped. In nine career starts, Svedberg now has four wins. Nov 21 - 10:53 PM

Date:

Niklas Svedberg will be the Boston Bruins' starter on Friday.

Svedberg has a 2.41 GAA and .917 save percentage in seven contests in 2014-15. He'll try to bounce back after allowing five goals on 34 shots in his last start on Nov. 13.
Nov 21 - 12:44 PM

Niklas Svedberg was one of many Bruins off their game on Thursday night as the team was smashed 5-1 to the hated Montreal Canadiens.

Svedberg allowed five goals on 34 sots, and was called upon less than 24 hours after relieving Tuukka Rask in Toronto after the team's 6-1 loss against the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
Nov 13 - 10:58 PM

Niklas Svedberg was required to save just 13 shots in the Bruins' 3-2 overtime win over Buffalo on Thursday night.

Svedberg improves to 2-2 on the season, but both wins have come against the awful Buffalo Sabres. With Tuukka Rask struggling, Svedberg might play a bit more in the early goings of the season until the reigning Vezina winner finds his dominant form, as evidenced by his start on Thursday. Don't expect the 25-year-old to make too much of a dent in Rask's playing time though.
Oct 30 - 10:33 PM

Niklas Svedberg will be in goal for the Bruins on Thursday against Buffalo.

He posted a 32-save shutout versus the Sabres on Oct. 18. Svedberg dropped a 3-2 decision to the Islanders in his last appearance.
Oct 30 - 3:24 PM

Niklas Svedberg did all he could to tame the feisty Islanders, but his 35 saves ultimately were not enough as New York nicked Boston 3-2 in Thursday night's action.

Svedberg has provided superb backup service for the struggling Tukka Rask, but the 25-year-old's record fell to 1-2 on the year. Nonetheless, Svedberg has given the Bruins a chance to win in each of his appearances this year with a .951 save percentage and 1.57 goals against average.
Oct 23 - 10:11 PM

Niklas Svedberg looks like he's getting the nod for Boston on Thursday versus the Islanders.

New York is going to start Chad Johnson, who battled with Svedberg for the Bruins' backup job at training camp last season. Svedberg owns a 1-1-0 record with a 0.91 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage this year.

Niklas Svedberg sticked aside all 32 shots he faced for his first career NHL shutout as the Bruins blanked the Sabres on Saturday night 4-0.

Let’s put it this way: If Tuukka Rask ever went down with an injury, Svedberg would be a startable goalie in fantasy leagues. Boston’s structure and system is a goalie’s best friend as former backup Chad Johnson showed last season. Svedberg has a 0.91 goals-against average and .969 save percentage in two-plus games this season.
Oct 18 - 9:57 PM

As anticipated, Niklas Svedberg gets the nod for the Boston Bruins against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

The Sabres are on the tail end of a back-to-back and sport arguably the most pitiful offense in the NHL, so this is a great opportunity for Svedberg. One-day additions tend to make more sense on off nights rather than Saturdays, but if there was ever an instance to do so on such a busy night, this would be one of the best opportunities. Svedberg's been solid in rare Boston opportunities and went 25-15-4 with a .910 save percentage in the AHL last season.
Oct 18 - 12:16 PM

It is possible that Niklas Svedberg will get the start Saturday night against the Sabres.

Tuukka Rask is coming off a poor start against the Canadiens in which he was pulled. Buffalo is a poor team that is struggling. That all adds up to a possible Svedberg start. Stay tuned throughout the day for confirmation.
Oct 18 - 9:12 AM

Niklas Svedberg saved 28 of 30 shots in a 2-1 loss against Colorado on Monday.

It looked like this game would go to overtime, but Daniel Briere beat Svedberg with less than a second remaining in regulation time. It was just Svedberg's second career start. He is serving as Tuukka Rask's understudy this season and that's not a role that will lend itself to much playing time.
Oct 13 - 3:44 PM

It looks like Niklas Svedberg will play between the pipes Monday afternoon.

Svedberg led the Bruins out for the team's pregame warmups. It will be his first start of the season.
Oct 13 - 12:40 PM

Niklas Svedberg did well in his preseason debut Tuesday night.

The projected backup netminder to Tuukka Rask this season made 16 saves on 18 shots in two periods of work during a 3-2 loss to Montreal. Boston prospect Malcolm Subban played in the third period and he allowed one goal on 10 shots.
Sep 24 - 6:57 AM

Niklas Svedberg has inked a one-year, $600,000 contract with the Boston Bruins.

It's a one-way deal, which signals the Bruins commitment to using Svedberg as their backup goaltender in 2014-15. He had a 2.63 GAA and .910 save percentage in 45 AHL games last season.
Jun 23 - 6:35 PM

Niklas Svedberg has been assigned to AHL Providence.

He dressed as Chad Johnson's backup in Wednesday's game versus Buffalo. The Bruins gave Tuukka Rask the night off to rest after his return from the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
