Marek Hrivik knows that he's entering a critical part of his career.

Hrivik has excelled in the AHL, but he'll turn 26 in August and only has 21 NHL games on his resume. He signed a two-way deal with Calgary, setting him up for a key training camp. "Obviously, I don’t want to spend my whole career in the AHL. That’s not my goal … So I would say it is kind of like a turning point for me and one of seasons that I’ll really have to step up," Hrivik said. "I’ve played a few years in the AHL and the past two or three years, I played a lot of minutes in Hartford. I would say that I’m ready for that jump. Maybe the opportunity wasn’t there in New York as I would hope, but I think the two-way game that I’ve played so far is something that a lot of teams in the NHL (want)." He'll be worth keeping an eye on in September to see if he can fight his way onto the Flames' roster.
