Marek Hrivik knows that he's entering a critical part of his career.
Hrivik has excelled in the AHL, but he'll turn 26 in August and only has 21 NHL games on his resume. He signed a two-way deal with Calgary, setting him up for a key training camp. "Obviously, I don’t want to spend my whole career in the AHL. That’s not my goal … So I would say it is kind of like a turning point for me and one of seasons that I’ll really have to step up," Hrivik said. "I’ve played a few years in the AHL and the past two or three years, I played a lot of minutes in Hartford. I would say that I’m ready for that jump. Maybe the opportunity wasn’t there in New York as I would hope, but I think the two-way game that I’ve played so far is something that a lot of teams in the NHL (want)." He'll be worth keeping an eye on in September to see if he can fight his way onto the Flames' roster. Jul 4 - 4:10 AM

Marek Hrivik isn't in the Rangers' lineup for Game 1.

It was a bit surprising when Hrivik was called up this afternoon, given that there was no indication that the Rangers needed another forward and Hrivik had already played in an AHL contest earlier in the day. Whatever the Rangers' reasoning for calling up Hrivik though, it seems he will not play Wednesday night.

The New York Rangers have summoned Marek Hrivik.

That might suggest that someone who was supposed to play Wednesday night is hurt or sick, but we probably won't have any information about that until the pregame warmups. It seems unlikely that the Rangers have called him up with the intention of using him in tonight's game though given that he's already participated in one game today at the AHL level. To have him serve in two contests in a single day would be incredibly unconventional, so perhaps he's here for a more long-term reason.
