Teuvo Teravainen, a dyamic Finn who doesn't turn 18 until September, dazzled observers at the Chicago Blackhawks' recent prospect camp.

Teravainen is headed back to Finland to get stronger while playing another season with Jokerit Helsinki of SM-Liiga, but he certainly left a good impression at the Hawks' week-long prospects camp, which featured all four of the center prospects Chicago has selected in the past three NHL Drafts, including Teravainen, the No. 18 pick in 2012."I think Teuvo has shown in a short amount of time here that he's got incredible talent, but he's not even 18 yet," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said Friday, the last day of camp. "It's great to see a young kid like Teuvo be as good as he is. He's the youngest kid at the camp here, and I think he's probably been one of the best kids all week."

The Chicago Blackhawks were happy when Teuvo Teravainen was still available with the 18th overall pick.

Teams scooped up defensemen early, which caused forwards like Teravainen to slip from their projected draft positions. "We're really excited that he was still available," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman said. "We had him much higher on our list. You don't know until the draft unfolds, but to get him at the 18th spot was really impressive. He's a dynamic offensive player. He has great hands, he has the ability to make plays (and) he has good speed. He's a really gifted offensive player."

The Chicago Blackhawks captured talented forward Teuvo Teravainen with the 18th pick of the 2012 NHL Draft.

Despite his small frame, Teravainen might be the best pure playmaker aside from Yakupov in the draft. Scouts love his superior hockey sense. He is one of the few prospects that can create space from defenders by using his exceptional puck skills and agility. At just 165 lbs, he played with men much more physically mature than him but it didn’t stop him from manufacturing offense. Still, he must add strength if he hopes to compete with bigger NHL players. His defensive game isn’t polished and he needs to improve his decision-making without the puck. Considering the staggering young offensive talent already on Chicago's roster, this is an example of the rich getting richer. That being said, he might have to wait a little while for that to happen.
