For the seccond consecutive game Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch.

He sat out Thursday's game against Minnesota and will sit in the press box Sunday afternoon when his teammates face off against the Blues. It looks as if the Hawks determined that what Teravainen could provide was not worth buring his entry-level eligibility for next season.

Teuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch Thursday.

Coach Joel Quenneville plans to use the rest of the season as an education process for the 19-year-old prospect, so it's unclear how much game action he'll receive. Teravainen may play Friday night against Columbus. He doesn't have a point in three outings with the Blackhawks.
Apr 3 - 6:24 PM

Teuvo Teravainen was a healthy scratch against the Senators Friday night.

It is all part of the acclimation process to the NHL. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville has liked what he has seen from the Finnish rookie but wants him to shoot more rather than pass when he is in a scoring area. "Offensively, you think of shooting," Quenneville said. "He has the puck in some good areas there, and he looks like he wants to dish a lot of times, but think of getting it to the net yourself, and get some action off of that." Look for Teravianen to be back in the lineup Sunday against the Penguins. We love his potential so keep a close watch on him and don't be afraid to pick him up if you are in a dynasty league.
Mar 29 - 12:02 PM

Teuvo Teravainen didn't light up the stat sheet in his first NHL game Tuesday night, but coach Joel Quenneville liked what he saw.

"His awareness around the rink, both sides of the puck (and) in the faceoff circle were very strong," Quenneville said. "I thought he did a nice job. Good start." He went 7-for-7 in the faceoff dot, but didn't have a shot or a point in 11:39 of ice time.
Mar 26 - 8:34 AM

Teuvo Teravainen confirmed that he will make his NHL debut on Tuesday.

Teravainen is making the adjustment to North American hockey, so we would recommend tempering expectations in the short term. However, the 19-year-old forward is very talented and should be one of the league's top rookies next season.
Mar 25 - 12:16 PM

Teuvo Teravainen won't play for the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, but will get into action on Tuesday.

It's difficult to say how the talented and much-heralded forward will fit into the mix in Chicago, so it wouldn't be wise to add him without seeing how he may figure in. He could be especially useful in the playoffs, though.
Mar 23 - 5:24 PM

Tuevo Teravainen, who arrived in Chicago Friday, joined his new teammates for the tail end of practice.

He may need a few more practices before getting a chance to play in an NHL game. However if both Brandon Saad and Bryan Bickell are unable to play Sunday against Nashville, Teravainen could draw in. The 19-year-old is a huge talent (44 points in 49 games for Jokerit in the top Finnish league) and should be picked up in all legacy/keeper leagues by teams rebuilding without delay.

Mar 22 - 12:29 PM

Teuvo Teravainen is expected to join the Blackhawks after his campaign with Finland's Jokerit Helsinki is over.

Jokerit's campaign might end on Sunday, but they're still in the running for a playoff spot. He was taken with the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Since then he's excelled in the Finnish league, scoring nine goals and 43 points in 47 games in 2013-14.
Mar 11 - 6:07 PM

Teuvo Teravainen generated two goals and an assist to lead Finland to a 5-1 upset win over Canada in the semifinals of the World Junior Championships.

He got his first goal of the tournament on a penalty shot after the Finns used him as a substitution for an injured player. He also added an empty netter to book Finland's trip to the gold-medal game versus Sweden. The Chicago prospect now has 12 points in six games.
Jan 4 - 3:47 PM

Teuvo Teravainen contributed two assists for Finland in a 4-1 upset win over Russia in World Junior action Monday.

Chicago's first-round pick (18th overall in 2012) has five assists in three matches this tournament. Nashville pick Saku Maenalanen scored for the Finns in the victory.

Rookie Teuvo Teravainen left to play in Finland Friday.

This move was planned as the Hawks' first-round pick in 2012 could use another year of seasoning and he is not needed in Chicago as the team's roster is strong. That said, Teravainen was very impressive in the two pre-season games he played this past week. Remember his name. He could be an impact player in a couple of years.

Teuvo Teravainen has impressed at camp, but coach Joel Quenneville has decided that he'll return to Finland for another season.

"He'll play over there, but it's nice knowing that we have a real nice piece coming," Quenneville said. "With Europeans, when you give them that extra year when they come over here they're stronger and they're ready for the grind. He could turn out to be a real special player and being patient with him is definitely the right thing to do." The Hawks are still a deep team, so the move makes sense and it will happen after he plays in some pre-season games. Teravainen will get plenty of playing time overseas and there's no need to rush him.

It was initially thought that Teuvo Teravainen was a lock to return to Europe for another season, but the Blackhawks are considering hanging onto him now.

Teravainen's offensive skills have impressed Chicago's brass early in camp, to the point where they are beginning to think about including him on this season's roster. "He does a lot of nice things," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "In the middle of the ice you notice him. Playing with him, you probably have to be sharp and ready because the puck is going to be on your stick quicker than you think. You like his awareness and wanting the puck, and his play recognition is high end. The quickness with his hands is special." Teravainen is undergoing a shift from wing to center, where the Hawks hope he will develop into a long-term solution at the position.
Sat, Sep 14, 2013 09:39:00 AM

Teuvo Teravainen has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Chicago.

The Hawks haven't hid their excitement for the 18-year-old Finn since they selected him in the first round, 18th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Teravainen was the SM-liiga's Rookie of the Year in 2011-12 and he tallied 31 points in 44 games with Jokerit last season. He's expected to remain in Europe for another year before coming over to North America.
