Matthew Dumba scored his sixth goal of the season in a 4-2 loss to the Rangers on Thursday night.

That makes for 14 points in 51 games so far for the 21-year-old. Dumba has the tools to produce, but hasn't collected points in a consistent or plentiful manner as of yet.

He earned helpers on goals by Charlie Coyle and Nino Niederreiter in the defeat. Unfortunately, Dumba also finished with a minus-2 rating in 15:35 of ice time. He has 13 points in 50 games this year.

"You're going to have these [stretches] and just got to work your way through them," Dumba said. "I'm working hard and trying to stay mentally sharp and be at my best. I still need more, so [Monday] night I'm going to be ready."

This game was never in doubt. The Wild actually out-possessed the Avs 58-30, and Dumba finished as the worst possession player (plus-one, 52%). Dumba has three goals and six points. Justin Fontaine and Jason Pominville picked up the other goals.

Dumba is still quite inconsistent in his offensive production, with six points in 24 games this season. It was his second game winner of the campaign so far.

The 21-year-old has been a bit spotty in his first 12 games of the season, with just four points so far. He will need to step it up a notch to be a fantasy worthy player in 2015-16.

He hasn't been seeing much time the power play for the last six games, which has cut into his ice time. "He's showing some signs, but this is not going to be something that's just going to happen overnight," said coach Mike Yeo. The Wild want to get Dumba back to the player he was at the end of the 2014-15 campaign.

It was Minnesota's first goal scored by a defenseman this season. The 21-year-old now has a goal and an assist in seven contests in 2015-16. He's averaging just over 18 minutes of ice time per game.

Coach Mike Yeo is trying to get Matt Dumba back to the form he displayed in the second half of the 2014-15 season.

"We know what he's capable of," said Yeo. "We saw it last year, but it's sort of getting back to that mentality of being solid first and looking for opportunities to jump." The Wild coaching staff has been holding video tutorials with the young defender to try to get him back on track. Dumba has one assist and a minus-2 rating in five games this season.

The Minnesota Wild beat the Winnipeg Jets 8-1 on Sunday and Wild defenseman Matt Dumba led the way with two goals and two assists.

On top of scoring four points, Dumba was also a plus-6 in this contest. He is slated to start the year on the third pairing with Mike Reilly but can move up with more performances like these. The former seventh overall pick has loads of potential and is someone to keep an eye on as training camp comes to an end.

Matt Dumba scored a goal in Minnesota's 4-1 loss to Chicago on Sunday night.

The Wild were trailing 2-0 when Dumba scored a power play goal to cut the Chicago lead to one in the third period. Unfortunately for Minnesota, that's as close as they would get. Ryan Suter and goaltender Devan Dubnyk picked up the assists on Dumba's goal. The Wild now trail 2-0 in the series, but they won't be in real danger until they lose a game on home ice.

Matt Dumba scored first career playoff goal, on the power play no less, to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead during their eventual 4-2 win over St. Louis on Thursday night.

Dumba saw just 11:32 of ice time, with 2:25 on the power play, in his first career playoff game and made the most of it. Dumba contributed two hits and another shot over his time.

Matt Dumba will make his NHL playoff debut Thursday at St. Louis.

"I had a conversation with him yesterday (to say) the game doesn't change," said coach Mike Yeo. "There's definitely more intensity and there's definitely more emotion and that's the big thing. As far as his game, he should have the same approach, the same preparation going into the game. His play without the puck I've been real pleased with. He has to make sure he has a strong focus on that." He averaged 15 minutes of ice time per game with the Wild during the regular season and he recorded 16 points in 58 contests.

Matt Dumba had a hand in both Wild goals against the Rangers on Thursday night, but New York escaped with a 3-2 victory.

Dumba now has 15 points in 53 games this season and three points in his past three games. The Wild take on Detroit Saturday night in their playoff push.
