Forward Sebastian Collberg scored a goal Saturday as Sweden defeated Latvia 5-1 at the junior ice hockey world championships to secure a spot in the knockout round.

Viktor Arvidsson also chipped in with a pair of goals for Sweden, who dominated the match but struggled to find a way past goalkeeper Ivars Punnenovs until Emil Molin gave the Swedes the lead with 50 seconds left in the first period. Teodors Blugers scored for the winless Latvians, but Collberg restored the lead and Sweden added three late goals to wrap up the win. Arvidsson scored two quick goals midway through the third and Alexander Wennberg added the fifth with less than a minute to play. Sweden tops Group A with eight points in three games, while Latvia is last with no points.

Sebastian Collberg scored a goal in Sweden's 3-2 shootout win over Switzerland in the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Overtime victories are awarded two points as opposed to three for a regulation win, so this might end up costing Sweden as they battle for the top spot in Group A. Sweden will face Latvia next in a game they're expected to comfortably win. Meanwhile, Switzerland will play Finland on Sunday.

Sebastian Collberg was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 33rd overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Another small European winger, Collberg is one of the few snipers in the prospect pool. He has an extremely quick release and his shot is explosive. Some scouts believed he outplayed his fellow countryman Filip Forsberg at the World Junior Championships. However, Collberg’s shortcomings were exposed at Frolunda this season, receiving less than ten minutes of ice time per game and failing to record a single point in 41 games with the club. Keep in mind that he was facing physically mature men who bullied him on the ice. He has a similar body type to Teuvo Teravainen, and needs to add strength. Despite this, he isn’t afraid to battle in traffic and is very aggressive along the boards and in the corners. He could develop into a great top-six forward for Montreal.
