Derrick Pouliot suffered an undisclosed injury during Thursday's contest.
Pouliot has already been placed on the injured reserve list and it sounds like he might be out for far longer than the minimum amount of time that move requires. "It's going to be a while," Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said. "I don't know if they've put an actual projection on it as we speak but it's going to be a while." Thursday was his season debut after previously being a healthy scratch. Oct 21 - 2:05 PM

Derrick Pouliot will be scratched against the Ducks on Saturday.

It feels like Pouliot has been on the cusp of Pittsburgh's starting lineup for ages now, but in reality, he's still just 22-years-old. Over the last two seasons he's posted 14 points with 31 hits and 38 blocks in 56 games. He may be loaded with talent, but he'll have to play a bit more often to be a fantasy asset.

Derrick Pouliot has come into camp much slimmer than last season.

Pouliot is trying to make the team and also seems to have a renewed confidence at the start of camp. "Maybe that was one of the things holding me back last year from performing at my best," Pouliot said of his physical transformation. "It’s my third year professionally now. I’m starting to learn how to learn how to be a professional and do the little things." Pouliot worked with Gary Roberts in the off-season and that seems to have worked. Pouliot has plenty of offensive upside but curb those thoughts a bit this season and expect a 7-10 goal season and 30 points from the former eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Sep 25 - 10:28 AM

Derrick Pouliot is hoping to get off to a good start with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pouliot has a bright future, but it's no secret that he's been a little disappointing so far. "[Last year] didn’t go the way I wanted," Pouliot said. "The year didn’t start out how I would’ve liked, but it definitely taught me something. You have to be ready right from the get-go." He played in just 22 regular season games and two more games in the postseason.
Sep 10 - 11:11 AM

According to Pens GM Jim Rutherford, Derrick Pouliot is having a great summer.

"Derrick Pouliot is having a really good summer," Rutherford said. "All the reports are very good on (Pouliot). He's worked very hard. It's his time to jump in there. Last year, he made great strides. It's my understanding he's had a terrific summer, and he's really prepared for camp. I'm expecting Derrick to take a big step forward." The Pens drafted Pouliot eighth overall in 2012, but he hasn't developed as quickly as the team would have hoped. This season, he'll have an opportunity to become a regular on Pittsburgh's blue line. The 22-year-old had seven assists in 22 games last season.

Apr 3 - 5:05 PM

Derrick Pouliot will be in the Pittsburgh lineup Sunday.

Pouliot will draw into the lineup as Brian Dumoulin suffered an upper body injury Saturday and wll be unable to go. Pouliot is an offensive defenseman who was drafted eighth overall in 2012. He has Kris Letang ahead of him so his power play time will be limited to the second unit at best. He has only six assists this season in 18 games so his fantasy value is negligible thus far.
