Derrick Pouliot was scoreless with a minus-5 rating in Wednesday's 7-1 loss against the visiting Predators.

Pouliot is scoreless with a minus-8 rating in four games since his career-high three-point night back on Dec. 5 against the Hurricanes. He is scoreless in nine of his past 10 games and is best left to the waiver wire in all but the very deepest fantasy pools.

Derrick Pouliot finished with a goal, two assists and a plus-2 rating while adding four blocked shots and a hit Tuesday against the visiting Hurricanes.

Don't get terribly excited about Pouliot's performance, as he entered with no points over his past five outings. The three-point game was a career high, as he entered with just three goals and 21 points across his first 91 NHL games. His 10 points already sets a new career best. He'll need to duplicate this kind of performance on a regular basis before fantasy owners even consider him in the deepest of pools.

Derrick Pouliot posted a pair of assists with a plus-1 rating, three shots on goal and two hits in Tuesday's 3-2 road win against the Kings.

Pouliot entered the day with just three helpers and a plus-2 rating through 14 games, so he has a long way to go before he gets into the good graces of fantasy owners. He was picked eighth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but he has failed to live up to expectations so far in his career.

Vancouver Canucks head coach Travis Green has announced that Derrick Pouliot will make his Canucks debut tonight against the Flames.

Pouliot was acquired by the Canucks for Andrey Pedan and a 4th round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Pouliot was selected 8th overall by the Penguins in 2012 but has had limited NHL action due to his defensive issues. He's worth monitoring but shouldn't be picked up in fantasy leagues. He's jumping into the lineup for Alex Edler who is out with a MCL sprain.

The Canucks acquired Pouliot from the Penguins earlier this month. He still hasn't suited up in a game for his new team though. Alexander Burmistrov and Alex Biega will also serve as scratches tonight.

Derrick Pouliot has been shipped to Vancouver for Andrey Pedan and a fourth-round draft pick in 2018.

Pittsburgh didn't want to risk losing Pouliot or Chad Ruhwedul on waivers for nothing. He will try to crack the Canucks' top-six group after he played in just 11 games with the Penguins last year. Pouliot has played in 67 NHL contests over the last three seasons.

The Pittsburgh Penguins could open the season with eight blueliners on their 23 man roster.

Most teams go with seven but the Penguins likely do not want to put either Derrick Pouliot or Chad Ruhwedul on waivers and risk losing them. The Penguins are currently two players over the limit and while it looks like Jay McClement is on the bubble (and on a PTO) the other player could be one of Tom Kuhnhackl or Josh Archibald. Stay tuned. Pouliot has a lot of offensive flair but the former eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft has yet to stick in plenty of opportunities with the Penguins.

Derrick Pouliot stood out in the Penguins' intrasquad game on Monday.

"I thought he was really active in the rush," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. "He made a few real good outlet passes. He's in very good shape. His fitness level is extremely good. I think he's made a positive impression." Pouliot's role with the 2017-18 squad isn't secure, especially if his hope is to serve as something more than the team's seventh defenseman, so a strong training camp is important in his case. He had no points in 11 games with Pittsburgh in 2016-17. At the AHL level he had seven goals and 23 points in 46 contests.

Derrick Pouliot feels his play towards the end of the AHL campaign showed that he's worked out his defensive shortcomings.

Pouliot has always had plenty of offensive talent, but his defensive game has left something to be desired. He was plus-12 in his final 24 contests with Wilkes-Barre in 2016-17 though. "For me to establish myself as an NHL defenseman, a regular guy in the lineup, it's kind of playing how I ended the season: solid defensively, consistent in that regard," Pouliot said. "That's been one thing that's always been brought up about me, inconsistency. So I think it's starting with that and building each game." This will be a key season for him, especially after inking a one-way, $800,000 contract with Pittsburgh. While it won't be easy for him to secure a spot with the Penguins, the possibility exists for the 23-year-old.
