The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Derrick Pouliot from the minors.

Pouliot suffered a lower back injury on October 20 and was sent to the minors last week on a conditioning stint. He played in three games and while he was held off the scoresheet, he was the Baby Pens best defenseman the last two games. It remains to be seen if Pouliot will draw into the lineup Wednesday against the Islanders. He has plenty of offensive upside and could be a nice pickup if he gets a chance on the power play.

Pouliot has rejoined the Pittsburgh Penguins as a result. He had no points and a minus-one rating in three AHL contests. The next step will be for him to be evaluated by the Penguins' doctors.

Derrick Pouliot did not pick up a point in three minor league games over the weekend but his play was strong.

According to reports, he was the Baby Pens best defenseman the last two games, needing one game to get his hockey legs back. He was a minus-one and managed six shots on goal and all-in-all he played quite well. Stay tuned as Pouliot has been out of the lineup since October 20 with a lower body injury. He has little value at this time as he still may stay in the minors.
Nov 28 - 8:34 AM

Derrick Pouliot has been sent to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning assignment.

He sustained a lower-body injury back on Oct. 20 versus San Jose during his only NHL appearance so far this season. Pouliot is slated to play in three minor-league contests this weekend and then he will be re-evaluated by the Penguins' doctors.
Nov 22 - 1:32 PM

Derrick Pouliot (lower body) was on the ice with the Penguins on Tuesday.

Pouliot was wearing a no-contact jersey, but this still marked his first practice since Oct. 20. "I felt like I was going hard," Pouliot said. "Maybe the timing is half a step behind, but with each practice, that'll come back." It's not clear how close he is to returning to the Penguins' lineup.
Nov 16 - 9:48 AM

Derrick Pouliot will be out "long term" with a lower body injury.

No word yet on the type or location of the ailment, but we'll keep you posted. This is a tough blow to a promising young defender, but also represents a great opportunity for other players to show off their mettle.
Oct 22 - 3:42 PM

Derrick Pouliot suffered an undisclosed injury during Thursday's contest.

Pouliot has already been placed on the injured reserve list and it sounds like he might be out for far longer than the minimum amount of time that move requires. "It's going to be a while," Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said. "I don't know if they've put an actual projection on it as we speak but it's going to be a while." Thursday was his season debut after previously being a healthy scratch.
Oct 21 - 2:05 PM

Derrick Pouliot will be a healthy scratch in Monday's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Pouliot was a healthy scratch in each of Pittsburgh's first two games. The Pens will go with a blue line of: Brian Dumoulin, Kris Letang Olli Maatta, Trevor Daley, Ian Cole and Justin Schultz.
Oct 17 - 6:43 PM

Derrick Pouliot will be scratched against the Ducks on Saturday.

It feels like Pouliot has been on the cusp of Pittsburgh's starting lineup for ages now, but in reality, he's still just 22-years-old. Over the last two seasons he's posted 14 points with 31 hits and 38 blocks in 56 games. He may be loaded with talent, but he'll have to play a bit more often to be a fantasy asset.

Derrick Pouliot has come into camp much slimmer than last season.

Pouliot is trying to make the team and also seems to have a renewed confidence at the start of camp. "Maybe that was one of the things holding me back last year from performing at my best," Pouliot said of his physical transformation. "It’s my third year professionally now. I’m starting to learn how to learn how to be a professional and do the little things." Pouliot worked with Gary Roberts in the off-season and that seems to have worked. Pouliot has plenty of offensive upside but curb those thoughts a bit this season and expect a 7-10 goal season and 30 points from the former eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Sep 25 - 10:28 AM

Derrick Pouliot is hoping to get off to a good start with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pouliot has a bright future, but it's no secret that he's been a little disappointing so far. "[Last year] didn’t go the way I wanted," Pouliot said. "The year didn’t start out how I would’ve liked, but it definitely taught me something. You have to be ready right from the get-go." He played in just 22 regular season games and two more games in the postseason.
Sep 10 - 11:11 AM

According to Pens GM Jim Rutherford, Derrick Pouliot is having a great summer.

"Derrick Pouliot is having a really good summer," Rutherford said. "All the reports are very good on (Pouliot). He's worked very hard. It's his time to jump in there. Last year, he made great strides. It's my understanding he's had a terrific summer, and he's really prepared for camp. I'm expecting Derrick to take a big step forward." The Pens drafted Pouliot eighth overall in 2012, but he hasn't developed as quickly as the team would have hoped. This season, he'll have an opportunity to become a regular on Pittsburgh's blue line. The 22-year-old had seven assists in 22 games last season.
Aug 27 - 9:58 AM

Look for Derrick Pouliot to be a healthy scratch in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

The former eighth overall pick in 2012 has suited up in just two games during this postseason run. Pouliot hasn't played since Game 4 of Pittsburgh's second round series against the Washington Capitals. Jeff Zatkoff, Oskar Sundqvist and Beau Bennett are also expected to watch from the press box.
