The Toronto Maple Leafs have claimed Matt Finn with the 35th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Finn doesn’t possess the flash like some of the other defensemen in the prospect pool, but he is a solid player with a good character. He was a fairly consistent producer for the Guelph Storm this past season, compiling 48 points in 61 games. He has one of the best shots in the draft and is particularly effective on the power play. Finn prefers to lead the rush rather make the first-pass but he has the ability to lead the attack. He is not the best skater among the defencemen prospects and should continue improving. He has some questions on the defensive end, often relying on his stick rather than using his body to breakup the play. Toronto already has a pretty strong group of blueliners, but they decided to spend their top two picks in the 2012 draft on defensemen.
