"He's defending much better than I expected for this being his first two games (in the NHL)," Cooper said before Saturday's contest. "He hasn't shown jitters, shown quite a bit of confidence. Even when things haven't gone his way, he hasn't been afraid to try it again. He's done a heck of a job." The 21-year-old rookie made his NHL debut on Mar. 31 and he's appeared in three games with the Lightning. Koekkoek doesn't have any fantasy value at this time.

Slater Koekkoek is excited to be healthy for Tampa's rookie camp.

The young defenseman has finally recovered from three shoulder injuries that required surgery and that kept him off the ice for parts of the last three seasons. When healthy Koekkoek has demonstrated considerable offensive abilities for a rearguard. In 62 games with Windsor of the OHL last season he registered 53 points. That makes Koekkoek a legitimate prospeect to us. Keep an eye on him during the Bolts' training camp to see if he can nab a spot on the team's blueline. It's a longshot we admit, but his talent warrants the look.

Koekkek projects as a top-pair defenseman and he will play in the OHL next season. The 19-year-old had 29 points there last season and the Lightning hope he is cleared for contact by training camp.
