The Nashville Predators have assigned Pontus Aberg to the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.
Aberg scored two goals in Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Despite being sent down, Predators head coach Peter Laviolette was impressed with the 21-year-old’s play in camp. "He can make plays, he can find holes, he can shoot the puck and he’s young," said Laviolette. "But it was a good camp for him and a noticeable camp for him." The young Swede is in his first season in North America, and will have to adjust to the smaller ice rinks before he gets to contribute at the NHL level. Sep 28 - 12:58 PM

The Predators received scoring contributions from several young players Saturday night, with Pontus Aberg scoring twice.

Aberg, the team’s second-round pick in the 2012 draft, had 15 goals and 31 points in the Swedish Hockey League last year. Kevin Fiala, the Preds’ first-rounder from the 2014 draft, also scored. Austin Watson potted the final goal via the empty net. Pekka Rinne made 22 saves on 23 shots in the full game.

Pontus Aberg has agreed to a three-year, entry-level deal with the Nashville Predators.

Aberg had 15 goals and 16 assists in 52 Swedish games in 2013-14. The Predators took him with the 37th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Pontus Aberg has been selected with the 37th overall pick by the Nashville Predators.

The third of the talented trio of Swedish forwards, Aberg receives much less hype than the other two (Forsberg and Collberg), but may be just as talented. As an 18 year old, Aberg played in the Swedish professional league, and demonstrated that he can already be a reliable contributor at that level, skating with the club’s second line. He is considered a future offensive force who can fly around the rink. He relies on his heavy shot, but also can find the open man. Aberg tends to chase the puck in his own zone rather than hold his position. He can be overly physical at times and should tone down his aggressiveness. He is under contract for two more seasons with Djurgarden, so Predators fans shouldn't expect to see him in their lineup anytime soon.
