Martin Frk has been taken with the 49th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
After battling back from concussion problems, Frk had a solid season with Halifax, compiling 29 points in 34 games. Frk’s raw skillset is intriguing, as he has an excellent stick and great hands. However, Frk has major consistency issues. At times he looks totally invisible on the ice. When he is engaged, however, he looks like one of the more dynamic offensive talents in the draft. Defensively, he struggles to contain his man in one-on-one situations. He also lacks defensive awareness, so he rarely disrupts passing lanes. He isn’t a very physical player, which may in part be due to his concussion injury. Frk is a project, but he could develop into a nice player for Detroit.
