Martin Frk (groin) isn't expected to play Wednesday night versus Edmonton.

Frk didn't take part in Tuesday's skate and could be out until next week. He hasn't played since Nov. 11 because of a groin injury.

Coach Jeff Blashill said "it could be a week" before Frk is ready to play. Consider him day-to-day for now. Frk is tied for second on the team with six goals in 18 games this year.

Frk snapped a 10-game goalless drought with his fourth goal of the season. He had three goals in the first four matches of the year. Frk now has seven points in 15 matches.

Martin Frk has been dropped to the fourth line alongside Luke Glendening and Scott Wilson.

"It's a challenge for me but I am going to work with it and hopefully I can jump to a better line," Frk said. "But I feel like our line played good, we are getting good chemistry between us. We can definitely find a way to score. I am happy I am playing so I will do whatever I have to do." He has gone nine straight games without a goal after he scored three times in the first four matches of the year. Frk registered an assist in Tuesday's win over Arizona, but he logged just 6:56 of ice time.

Frk started the year with three goals and one assist in his first four outings. He has been playing with Frans Nielsen and Darren Helm lately. Coach Jeff Blashill wants him to "go play without fear" and he has confidence that Frk can play regularly at the NHL level.

Martin Frk scored Detroit's only regulation goal in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over Ottawa.

Frk has collected two goals and one assist in Detroit's first two games of the year. He gave the Red Wings a 1-0 lead at the 17:26 mark of the third period, but Ottawa's Dion Phaneuf tied the game just 43 seconds later. Dylan Larkin finished the match with an assist and Frans Nielsen had the lone marker in the shootout.

Martin Frk registered his first NHL points in Thursday's 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild.

Frk picked up an assist on a power-play goal by Anthony Mantha and he scored his first goal at the 10:39 mark of the third period. It was a great way for him to celebrate his 24th birthday. Frk claimed a roster spot with the Red Wings out of training camp and it didn't take long for him to make an impact.

It appears that Martin Frk has made the Detroit Red Wings opening night roster.

Frk was told by Red Wings brass that he will need to find a place in Detroit on a 'month-to-month' basis. He was selected by the Red Wings in the 2nd round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and is coming off a back-to-back 27-goal season for Grand Rapids of the AHL. He has a great release and if he finds himself on a scoring line, he might be worth grabbing in fantasy leagues. Keep an eye on him during the early portions of the regular season.

Martin Frk scored two goals and registered an assist in Saturday's 5-1 victory over Boston.

Frk's in the running for a roster spot and a game like that certainly doesn't hurt his chances. His linemates were Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha, who each registered two assists. "I played with Mo back in Grand Rapids, I didn’t have too much time with Larks," Frk said. "It’s a treat to play with those guys. I enjoyed it. I’m trying not to be in their way and just trying to find the (open) spots." Frk had 27 goals and 50 points in 65 AHL contests last season.

Martin Frk still has some work to do, but he is competing for a roster spot with Detroit out of training camp.

"He's got to play good enough 5-on-5 that he can be a top three-line type player – maybe a fourth-liner but still get ice time," coach Jeff Blashill said. "You can't just be a power play guy and never play. Ultimately Marty will have to score at a high level. That is his best asset. I think Marty will have to outscore mistakes. He is like lots of players – you make mistakes, if you outscore them, then it helps you win." Frk notched 27 goals and 50 points in 65 AHL games last season.
