Damon Severson will be a healthy scratch in Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Blues.

Severson has a goal and three assists in 13 games this season. It's the first time he serves as a healthy scratch this season. Dalton Prout will also watch the game from the press box.
Nov 7 - 7:06 PM

New Jersey has signed Damon Severson to a six-year contract.

The new deal will have an average annual salary of $4,166,700. Severson registered a personal best 31 points in 80 games last season. "We are happy to have Damon under contract through the 2022-23 season," said GM Ray Shero in a statement. "Damon brings an important dimension to our hockey club and he is a young defenseman that we are excited to work with. This deal shows our ownership's commitment in what we continue to build here. We look forward to helping Damon continue to grow and develop as a player."

Devils GM Ray Shero said it's time for Damon Severson and the New Jersey Devils to come to terms on an contract extension.

Severson is a restricted free agent and he won't be in camp if there's no deal in place. "It's just a matter of finding the right length, and whether it will be a shorter- or longer-term deal," Shero said. "If it's long-term, the structure is really important. If it makes sense shorter term and we do some sort of bridge deal, I'd do that too. Damon has a lot of upside to his game and it's important for him to be at training camp; he wants to be there. I just think at this point, it's time to make a deal, and as of [Friday] both sides were making a real concerted effort to really try to make a deal. We're closing in on that, so we'll see what happens over the next couple of days." Severson had three goals and 31 points in 80 games last season. He averaged just over 20 minutes of ice time per game in 2016-17.
Sep 10 - 12:36 PM

Damon Severson and the New Jersey Devils still haven't been able to come to terms on a contract extension.

Severson, who is a restricted free agent, quietly put up decent offensive numbers last season, as he had three goals and 31 points in 80 games. He averaged just over 20 minutes of time per game, but he also finished with a mind-boggling minus-31 rating. The Devils have over $18.7 million in cap space, so a deal should be completed soon. The fact that he doesn't have arbitration rights probably gives the Devils the upper hand in this negotiation.
Aug 14 - 9:50 AM

Devils GM Ray Shero doesn't feel any need to rush the contract negotiations with Damon Severson.

Severson is a restricted free agent who didn't have arbitration rights so as long as he's signed before the start of training camp there isn't any issue. He's coming off a strong campaign where he had three goals, 31 points, and 58 penalty minutes in 80 contests. "He’s still a young defenseman that we’re excited to work with, and we want to make sure he understands that," Shero said. "So we’ll get some options with him and his agent, and there’s no rush there. We look forward to doing that and getting some of these other guys signed."
Jul 20 - 8:56 PM

Damon Severson and Blake Coleman are projected to be scratched against the Red Wings on Sunday.

Through 80 games this season Severson has posted three goals and 31 points along with 58 PIMs, 72 blocks and 79 hits. Coleman meanwhile has picked up three points in 21 games this season.
Apr 9 - 4:21 PM

Damon Severson found himself on the bench Saturday.

Severson missed the last 16:08 of the game as he never left the bench because of some poor play. "There were some soft plays early in the game," coach John Hynes said. "A soft pinch on a two-on-one against. He’s got to be more in tune, more prepared to play. He’s got to play harder on the ice. If we have seven defensemen and one guy doesn’t have it, you’re going to sit on the bench." Severson has three goals and 31 points this season with 58 penalty minutes but his minus-31 rating is tied for the third worst in the NHL.
Apr 9 - 8:50 AM

Damon Severson will make his return to the lineup in Tuesday's game against Columbus.

He missed Sunday's game because of an upper-body injury, but he seems to have recovered enough to play. He has three goals and 24 assists in 64 games this season.
Mar 7 - 6:38 PM

Damon Severson will miss Sunday's match with Columbus due to an upper body injury.

Through 64 games this season he's posted three goals and 27 points along with 49 PIMs, 60 hits and 63 blocks over 64 games. He's considered day-to-day.
Mar 5 - 3:29 PM

Damon Severson was a force on the blueline Saturday as he blocked six shots in a 4-1 win over Philadelphia.

Severson was also a plus-one but his minus-22 rating this season leaves a lot to be desired. He has 22 points including three goals in 48 games thus far but the plus/minus really hurts his fantasy value.
Jan 22 - 8:25 AM

Damon Severson's assist on Sunday gave him 21 points on the season.

Severson has improved his offensive game as he had only 21 points all of last season. The defenseman is worth a pick up in deeper fantasy pools.
Jan 16 - 8:06 AM

Damon Severson scored the only goal on Saturday night as the New Jersey Devils lost 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Severson had an assist from Taylor Hall and Travis Zajac—their third assist in both cases—but it was not enough to stem the loss. The Devils gained the advantage briefly with this score at the 14:39 minute mark of the first period, but Ben Bishop turned stingy for the remainder of the game and was perfect in the final two periods. This was Severson’s second goal of the season and his ninth point.

Damon Severson registered an assist in the Devils' 2-1 victory against Anaheim on Tuesday.

It was Severson's first point in three games this season. He finished the 2015-16 campaign with a goal and 21 points in 72 contests.

Damon Severson might end up playing alongside Andy Greene this season.

Severson has been paired with Greene before, but in 2015-16 Greene and Adam Larsson spent the vast majority of the season playing together. The Devils traded away Larsson though, so there's an opening. "You see how successful we were before I got injured as a pairing," Severson said of his previous stint with Greene during the 2014-15 campaign. "I was the most comfortable ever since I got here with him. Obviously, he’s a good defenseman and an easy guy to play with. It makes you excited to play with a guy like that. As a captain, he’s one of the greatest leaders on our team. To be able to play alongside that will just help me as a player. Hopefully, we’ll stick together for a long time, feed off each other and play big minutes for the team and be successful."
