Nikita Kucherov set a career high for points in a game with his three helpers on Friday night in Winnipeg.

All three were beauties as Tampa Bay took the game over in the second period. Kucherov now has five points (all assists) through eight games this season. He skated 15:43 including 2:18 on the powerplay. The Bolts would go on to win 4-2.

Nikita Kucherov was injured in the first period of Tuesday's 2-1 overtime win over Calgary, but he was able to return in the third.

He was nailed by Flames defenseman Mark Giordano on an open-ice hit and didn't return for the second period, so it was a bit surprising to see him back at the start of the final frame. Kucherov finished the match with 8:39 of ice time.

Nikita Kucherov might have been a bubble player entering training camp, but he has probably earned himself a roster spot after leading the preseason with six goals.

Vladislav Namestnikov, Cedric Paquette and Jonathan Marchessault have enjoyed strong camps as well and are pushing hard for spots on the Lightning. Kucherov notched nine goals and nine assists in 52 games with Tampa Bay last season.
Oct 6 - 2:21 PM

Nikita Kucherov has had a solid camp for the Tampa Bay Lightning this year. Head coach Jon Cooper thinks Kucherov is much more comfortable than he was last year.

Kucherov has scored five goals in five preseason games so far this year, and has also skated on Tampa Bay’s top line with Steven Stamkos. The Lightning called up Kucherov in November last season, and although he started off strong, he failed to show consistency as the season progressed. "You can debate whether we called him up too early last year, but I think that has served him well coming into this year," said coach Jon Cooper. "He’s from Russia, didn’t know the language very well and I think he was a little intimidated…Now he’s speaking to me in English. So you can tell he’s much more comfortable and he’s progressing. Kucherov could be an intriguing fantasy sleeper if he continues to play on Stamkos’ line throughout the regular season.
Oct 4 - 9:08 AM

Nikita Kucherov netted two goals in Tampa Bay's 3-0 preseason victory over their cross-state rivals the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

Vladislav Namestnikov had a pair of helpers while Ondrej Palat notched the winning goal for the Bolts. Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves for the shutout, out-dueling Roberto Luongo's 30 save performance. Kucherov is coming off an 18 point rookie season last year in Tampa Bay.
Oct 2 - 10:17 PM

Nikita Kucherov has made a very good impression on the Tampa coaching staff in three exhibition games thus far.

He is the only Lightning player to play in all of the team's three preseason contests and has looked good doing it. In Friday's 6-3 win over Dallas, Kucherov played on the top lone alongside Steve Stamkos and Ryan Callahan and skated on the Bolts' top power-play unit, scoring a goal. Tampa coach Jon Cooper wants to get a good look at Kucherov while Jonathan Drouin recovers from injury to see where the 21-year-old fits in. Thus far assistant coach George Gwozdecky has been impressed. "I think he's made another step in his progress from last year to now,’" Gwozdecky said. "Certainly there is a little bit more of an awareness of how he needs to play to be effective, not only offensively, but defensively. He's a very explosive player and one of these guys that finds seams and finds holes. He’s a very crafty player." Keep any eye on Kucherov over the next two weeks.

Nikita Kucherov was a healthy scratch in Game 3.

The rookie forward played in Tampa Bay's previous two games of the series and he scored in Game 1. The Lightning wanted to go with more experience and grit, so they dressed Tom Pyatt and B.J. Crombeen and scratched Kucherov and Richard Panik.

Mar 25 - 7:45 AM

Nikita Kucherov will dress Monday night versus Ottawa.

He has been a healthy scratch for five straight games and seven of Tampa Bay's past eight. "He's 20, so I think he's taken a huge step as it is just to play however many games he has played," coach Jon Cooper said. "He's learning about the NHL. Kucherov played (17) games in the American Hockey League, so he's learning pro and everything he's been doing has been two thumbs up from me." He has one assist in his last 10 games and he hasn't scored a goal since Jan. 19.
Mar 24 - 5:11 PM

Feb 1 - 12:57 PM

Nikita Kucherov has impressed the Tampa coaching staff with his play this season.

Although the 20-year-old only has 10 points in 25 games his offensive ability is there for everyone to see. He's a special talent, and that's why you can use words like innate or 'it' factor or all those adjectives, that's what separates those guys, Bolts' coach Jon Cooper said. Pretty high praise for the rookie forward. Keep an eye on Kucherov.
