Now that Team Russia has been eliminated from the World Cup, Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman says negotiations with Nikita Kucherov will pick up.
The 23-year-old forward remains a restricted free agent, which offers Tampa Bay some leverage. However they have just over $6M in cap space remaining this season, with Jonthan Drouin, Ondrej Palat, Tyler Johnson, and Andrej Sustr as RFA's next season. Sep 25 - 3:56 PM

Nikita Kucherov produced a goal and an assist in Russia's 5-3 loss to Canada during the semifinal round of the World of Hockey.

Evgeny Kuznetsov and Artemi Panarin also scored for the Russians in the defeat. Kucherov got them on the board and Kuznetsov gave Russia a temporary lead, but Canada rallied in the third after tying the game before the second intermission. Panarin found the back of the net late in the final frame with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker even though there appeared to be a hand pass on the play.

Nikita Kucherov doesn't want to talk about his contract situation because he is still playing for Russia at the World Cup of Hockey, but the start of the NHL season is just around the corner.

GM Steve Yzerman said Wednesday that there's nothing new with negotiations, so a deal isn't looking likely to be in place by the time the tournament is over. The Lightning will try to get him signed before the start of the year.

Nikita Kucherov scored a goal in Team Russia's 2-1 shootout loss to the Czech Republic.

Kucherov opened the scoring at the 1:04 mark of the third period. This was the second pre-tournament World Cup game for both teams, as they faced off last Thursday (Russia won 4-3). Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alexei Emelin picked up the assists on Kucherov's goal.
Sep 10 - 1:53 PM

Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman is "hopeful" that Nikita Kucherov will be signed to a new deal by time they return from World Cup.

Kucherov, who is a restricted free agent, is competing for Russia at the tournament. He is important player who the Lightning need to have under contract before the start of the season.
Sep 8 - 2:05 PM

Nikita Kucherov won't let his restricted free agent status stand in the way of competing for Team Russia at the World Cup of Hockey.

"I have a chance to play for Team Russia against the best players in the world and I'm not going to lose it," Kucherov said Monday. Coach Jon Cooper told the Tampa Bay Times last week that he is "confident" that Kucherov will have a new contract. The high-scoring winger scored 65 points in 2014-15 and he had 66 points last season.
Sep 6 - 9:07 AM

Lightning GM Steve Yzerman doesn't have a timeline in mind for when Nikita Kucherov will be signed to a new contract.

He suggested that the progress may linger until the start of the season. "We continue to communicate with his representation," Yzerman said. "And we expect to have him under contract to start the season." The Lightning may have to make a move after signing Kucherov to be cap compliant going into the regular season, but the team is not that worried because Ryan Callahan (hip) can go on long-term injured reserve.
Jul 27 - 3:42 PM

Tampa GM Steve Yzerman is still confident he can get star forward and restricted free agent Nikita Kucherov signed to a long-term deal.

With all the money the Lightning has spent the past few days on Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman, one had to wonder if there are enough cookies in the cookie jar for Kucherov, a rising star. Yzerman believes there are. Kucherov, who is coming off a 30-goal season for which he was paid the modest sum of $700,000, could be looking at a deal close to what Filip Forsberg just signed with Nashville. That contact was for six years and $36 million. For his part, Yzerman is confident something will get done as the two sides are bargaining in earnest. "Hopefully sooner than later," Yzerman said. "I'm confident in that at some point we'll be able to reach an agreement." Stay tuned.
Jul 2 - 11:26 AM

Tampa Bay has reached out to their potential UFAs and RFAs, including Nikita Kucherov, according to GM Steve Yzerman.

Alex Killorn, Vladislav Namestnikov, J.T. Brown and Cedric Paquette are on that list as well, but no deals have been worked out yet. Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman has to wait for the Steven Stamkos domino to fall and for the salary cap number to be announced before he knows how much room he has to work with.

In terms of contract talks between Nikita Kucherov and the Tampa Bay Lightning, things appear to be quiet for now.

Kucherov is due to get a big raise this summer, but he's also a restricted free agent so we're not at a stage yet where there's any urgency. Instead Tampa Bay's focus is presumably with Steven Stamkos, who can become a UFA on July 1. If the Lightning get Stamkos signed, then Kucherov might become their primary focus.
Jun 7 - 2:48 PM

Nikita Kucherov is due to get a substantial raise.

He has a $700,000 salary that could rise by around $5 million depending on the term he receives. Kucherov is a restricted free agent after completing his entry-level deal. He has generated 59 goals and 131 points in the past two seasons and he has been spectacular in the playoffs with 22 goals and 42 points in 45 games over the last three years.
May 28 - 2:00 PM

Nikita Kucherov has produced plenty of clutch goals during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Kucherov has potted an NHL-leading 11 playoff goals and seven of them are tying or go-ahead markers and five of those seven have come in the third period. "When you're a rising star in this league, as he is, every team has one of those guys at some point," coach Jon Cooper said. "It just seems the bigger the moment, the bigger they rise to the occasion. (Kucherov has) proven that last year isn't a fluke. He's just a gifted, skilled and determined player. He's really a pleasure to coach." The 22-year-old winger has 19 points and league-leading plus-17 rating in 15 postseason games.
May 23 - 6:30 PM

Nikita Kucherov chose an excellent time to break out offensively in the Eastern Conference Final.

He scored for the first time in the series in the second period to tie the game at 2-2 and found the back of the net again late in the third to even the match at 3-3. The Lightning won Game 5 by a score of 4-3 in overtime and Kucherov also had an assist on Tyler Johnson's winner for a three-point effort. He leads the postseason in goals with 11 and sits second overall in points with 19 in 15 outings.
May 23 - 8:58 AM

Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov assisted on both Tampa Bay goals in a 4-2 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night.

Tampa now trails 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Final. The teams are back in Tampa Friday night for Game 4 of the best-of-seven series. Kucherov, one of the Lightning's top offensive players, has not scored in this series and didn't pick up any points until Wednesday. His assists, the fourth and fifth for the right winger in the postseason, came on goals by Tyler Johnson (fifth) and Ondrej Palat (fourth). Palat also assisted on the Johnson goal, his fourth of the playoffs.
May 18 - 11:29 PM

Nikita Kucherov hasn't picked up a point in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Final.

He has been credited with two shots in each contest. Kucherov will look to snap his mini skid back at home where he has five goals and two assists in six games this postseason.
