Nikita Kucherov's agent, Dan Milstein, doesn't expect contract talks to begin with the Tampa Bay Lightning until the start of next season.
Kucherov, who can become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, can sign an extension as early as July 1. However, talks haven't begun yet and there isn't believed to be a need for a rush to get something done right away. Kucherov does have arbitration rights, but there doesn't appear to be any reason to panic if you are a Lightning fan. "He wants to stay in Tampa - he doesn't want to go anywhere," Milstein said. "Worst case, it's arbitration, they're not going to lose him. Both sides want him to be in Tampa." May 27 - 10:55 AM

Nikita Kucherov will be eligible to sign a contract extension starting July 1st.

The Lightning forward is entering the final year of his contract, so that's why he can officially sign a deal with the team. The 24-year-old settled for a three-year bridge contract last time, but that certainly won't be the case this time around, as he's put together some impressive numbers. Expect him to get a huge raise from the $4.766,667 per year he's been making over the last couple of seasons. He had 39 goals and 100 points in 80 games for the Lightning in 2017-18. Kucherov will likely become one of the highest paid players in the league whenever he signs his new extension.
