Nikita Kucherov scored his sixth goal of the postseason during the Tampa Bay Lightning's 5-3 loss Wednesday night to the visiting New York Isles.
The Lightning trails the best-of-seven, second-round series 1-0. Game 2 goes Saturday in Tampa Bay. Kucherov continues to cement his reputation as an excellent playoff performer. Not only did he score the Lightning's second goal Wednesday, but he fired a game-high seven shots on net. The right winger notched five goals and three assists in the Lightning's five games against the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs. He has 32 points in 34 career postseason games. Ondrej Palat also stood out for the losing Lightning Wednesday, scoring the game's opening goal at 3:05 of the first period and notching five shots on net. "I know what I want," said Kucherov. "I want to be better. I want to win a Stanley Cup. I want to be a leader. Every day I just try to prove myself." He posted five goals and three assists for the Lightning in five games against Detroit in Round 1 to give him 31 points in 33 career postseason matches.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were led by Nikita Kucherov, Alex Killorn and Tyler Johnson in their first round series against Detroit.

Of the 12 goals the Bolts scored in the first round, 10 of them came off the stick of Kucherov, Killorn or Johnson. All three players finished the first round with a point-per-game average or better. Kucherov has eight points in five games, Johnson has seven points in five games and Killorn has five points in five games.

Nikita Kucherov scored two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Detroit in Game 4.

Kucherov scored a pair of power play goals in the first and second periods to give the Bolts a 2-0 lead. He also assisted on Ondrej Palat's game-winning goal in the third period. Kucherov is having himself quite the opening round. He's already up to five goals and eight points in the first four games of the series. The series now shifts back to Tampa with the Bolts leading 3-1.

Whatever was ailing Nikita Kucherov seemed to have disappeared Wednesday night.

The Lightning forward scored twice as Tampa Bay opened its first-round playoff series against the visiting Detroit Red Wings with a 3-2 triumph. Kucherov notched a third point with an assist on Alex Killorn's game winner at 8:52 of the third period. The goal broke a 2-2 tie. Killorn had a two-point night. He assisted on Kucherov's game-opening goal at 6:23 of the first period. Kucherov was held out of the Lightning's regular-season finale last Saturday with an ailment that the club wouldn't disclose. After practice Monday, he said he felt a little sore. Wednesday, however, he looked sharp, firing four shots on net to go along with his three points. Game 2 of this series will be played Friday night.

He said he felt a little a sore after the session, but he will be ready to play against Detroit in Game 1 of the playoffs on Wednesday. Kucherov was held out of Saturday's regular-season finale with the ailment.

Nikita Kucherov is questionable for Saturday night's season finale against Montreal.

He did not skate Saturday morning due to "body maintanance issues" putting his availability for Saturday night's contest very much in limbo. Although Tampa coach Jon Cooper has stated he is not a fan of resting players unless they are injured, Kucherov may sit this one out as there seems to be some physical issue with him.

Nikita Kucherov registered three points in the Lightning’s 3-1 win against the Devils on Saturday night.

Kucherov scored the final goal with the net empty and he assisted on Victor Hedman’s and Brian Boyle’s goals. Kucherov was quiet for one game after scoring in four consecutive. He has 30 goals and 64 points this season. He already has a career high in goals, and he's now tied his career high in points, too. Hedman also had a helper.

Kucherov is on the ice for the pregame warmup, so don't be surprised if he's inserted back into the lineup. The 22-year-old missed each of Tampa's last two games with a lower-body injury. He has 29 goals and 61 points in 72 games in 2015-16. His return is a big boost for the Bolts.

Kucherov blocked a shot in yesterday's win over the New York Islanders, but he was able to finish the game. The Lightning should provide an update on his status right before puck drop.
