Sabres coach Ted Nolan was impressed with Andrey Makarov's performance in Saturday's 3-0 loss to the Islanders.

Makarov made 33 saves in his first NHL start and Nolan said he looked confident. "He wasn’t afraid. He looked like a very confident young man," Nolan said. "Sometimes you get those first games in and you’re kind of jittery and nervous and young, but he acted like a very mature guy here tonight. He went in and did a job very well." Buffalo's goaltending situation is unclear going into next season so it's difficult to tell what kind of a role Makarov will have in 2015-16.
Apr 5 - 10:32 AM

Andrey Makarov stopped 32 of 35 shots in the Sabres’ 3-0 loss to the Islanders on Saturday night.

Welcome to the show, kid. Makarov learned right off the bat that he’ll have to basically be perfect in order to have a chance to win in Buffalo. The 21-year-old had a 2.98 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in the AHL prior to his recall.
Apr 4 - 9:32 PM

Andrey Makarov will make his NHL debut on Saturday night against the New York Islanders.

Makarov has gone 15-17-3 with a .902 save percentage and a 2.98 GAA over 37 games with AHL Rochester this season. Those may not be the most inspiring stats for the 21 year old rookie netminder, but the Sabres are still searching for their future starting goalie, and tonight's as good a chance for him to establish himself as any.
Apr 4 - 5:06 PM

Andrey Makarov has been summoned from the minors.

Matt Hackett did not attend the morning skate, which explains Makarov's recall. If Hackett is unable to dress on Monday night then Makarov will serve as Anders Lindback's understudy.
Mar 30 - 2:23 PM

The Buffalo Sabres have assigned Andrey Makarov to the AHL.

The Sabres have recalled Matt Hackett to replace Makarov on the roster. The 21-year-old hasn't played a game in the NHL this season.
Mar 7 - 12:53 PM

Andrey Makarov will backup starter Anders Lindback on Friday night against the Ottawa Senators.

Chad Johnson is out with a lower body injury, so the rookie netminder Makarov will get the nod to stay ready should Lindback's start go awry. Makarov has a 14-14-3 record and a 3.04 GAA with a.899 save percentage in 33 AHL Rochester starts this season.
Mar 6 - 6:38 PM

Andrey Makarov has been called up by the Buffalo Sabres.

The Sabres needed a third goaltender because Chad Johnson is doubtful due to a lower-body injury. If Makarov is needed at all on Friday, it will probably be to serve as the backup. Makarov has a 3.04 GAA and .899 save percentage in 33 AHL contests in 2014-15.
Mar 6 - 4:06 PM

Andrey Makarov has been called up by the Buffalo Sabres.

Jhonas Enroth, Michal Neuvirth, Matthew Hackett, and Nathan Lieuwen are all hurt, so the Sabres needed yet another goaltender. He has a 2.49 GAA and .919 save percentage in eight AHL games this season.

The Sabres assigned Andrey Makarov to Rochester of the AHL.

The Amerks need him as they play three games in four nights and are fighting for a playoff spot. The Sabres promoted Connor Knapp to back up Matthew Hackett in Makarov's place.

Andrey Makarov was called up from the minors on Tuesday.

He served as Matthew Hackett's backup in a 4-2 loss to Detroit. The Sabres have several goaltenders injured right now, but it's late in the year and the team already has last place locked up.

Andrey Makarov turned aside 41 of 42 shots in Russia's 2-1 victory over Team USA in the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Through two contests, Canada is the leader of Group B with six points, while Russia is in second place with five points. Team USA is in third place with three points and they now need to beat Canada in regulation time on Sunday to have any realistic hope of winning the division. Meanwhile Russia will play Germany on Saturday and the expectation is that Russia will win the game by a comfortable margin. Germany has already been outscored 17-3 after matches against Canada and the United States.

Andrey Makarov was superb for Russia in the Subway Super Series.

He posted a 1-0-1 record with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage against Canadian juniors when he stepped between the pipes. Makarov hasn't been as consistently dominant in the WHL this year, with a 10-9-0 record, a 2.96 GAA and a .907 save percentage, but he was great over the weekend and may be turning it around. He turned aside all 42 shots he faced in last Friday's 4-0 win against Prince George and he made 30 stops in a 5-2 triumph versus Vancouver on Sunday. Buffalo signed him as an unsigned free agent in September.

Andrey Makarov had an excellent 35-save performance for Russia, but Laurent Brossoit stopped all 30 the shots he faced and even was unbeatable in a shootout as the WHL won Wednesday's Super Series game 1-0 (SO).

Brossoit was a sixth-round pick by the Calgary Flames, so he'll need to produce great performances like these fairly often to move up the depth chart. Makarov wasn't drafted at all, however, so both netminders have work to do to capture significant NHL attention. Playing well on stages like these can't hurt.

Andrey Makarov made 29 saves in the 6-3 Blades' victory over Medicine Hat on Sunday.

The Sabres announced the signing of Makarov to a three-year, entry-level contract last month and loaned the Russian prospect to Saskatoon to start this campaign. He's currently 4-6 on the season.
