Ryan Pulock is one of the defensemen batting for a top-four spot on the Islanders blue line.
Pulock is in a battle with Adam Pelech and Scott Mayfield. Pulock, 22, has a booming shot from the point, but his overall game still needs some work. "They’re friends, but it’s a competition," Weight said. "Each of them should come in every day saying, ‘I’m taking his job.’ That’s the way the world is. I need Ryan to come in and say, ‘It’s my puck, it’s my power play, it’s my job.’ I want him up the ice. I want Pelly up the ice. I want Mayf mean." Pulock played in one NHL game last season, but he had 15 goals and 46 points in 55 AHL games last season. He could have fantasy value if he earns that top-four spot. Sep 23 - 10:02 AM

The New York Islanders have protected five defensemen as part of their eight skaters.

The Islanders protected Johnny Boychuk, Nick Leddy, Travis Hamonic, Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock as well as John Tavares, Andrew Ladd and Anders Lee up front with Thomas Greiss in net. That means that Ryan Strome is available as well as Brock Nelson for the Golden Knights.

Pulock is with the Islanders as they embark on a California road trip but will continue to get in some conditioning without playing as he closes in on a return. He was injured in his first game back from the minors so he has no stats this season.

Ryan Pulock could be recalled to the Islanders this week.

The Islanders are currently carrying six blueliners and that is a very risky proposition these days. He was sent to the minors this past week as he still had options available to the Islanders. Pulock has no real fantasy value at this time. He was selected 15th overall in the 2013 Draft.

Ryan Pulock is on the bubble as far as making the New York Islanders.

While Pulock is good enough to stay, he may be a victim of his youth as he still can be sent to the minors without going through waivers, something some of his teammates do not have the luxury of. The Islanders do not want to lose J.F. Berube or Alan Quine but both require waivers if sent down making Pulock and/or Adam Pelech bubble players.
