Ryan Fitzgerald has been assigned to Providence of the AHL.
Fitzgerald had a strong camp, but it wasn't enough to earn him a roster spot with the big club to start the 2017-18 season. He had two assists in eight AHL contests last year after he finished his fourth campaign with Boston College. Boston has also sent defenseman Jeremy Lauzon to the minors. Sep 27 - 9:01 AM

Ryan Fitzgerald's performance on Saturday was a silver lining for the Bruins in their 5-1 loss to Detroit.

"I think Ryan has been very good. I thought coming in it would be tough for him to push for a job," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "He’s been good. He’s opened my eyes. His hockey acumen is very good, even against good players. He has a good stick, he’s smart and his pace has improved from last year. He’s been a pleasant surprise. We’ve moved him around to center, right wing, the penalty kill and the power play. For me personally, he’s a much better player than I maybe would have thought coming in." Fitzgerald had 12 goals and 31 points in 34 games with Boston College last season. He still probably won't make the team out of training camp, but he could be summoned during the season as an injury replacement.
