Zach Fucale has been assigned to the AHL's St. John's IceCaps.
He is expected to face plenty of competition for playing time with Mike Condon and Charlie Lindgren also slated to start the season in the minors. The Canadiens also demoted Justin Baker, Jérémie Blain, Tim Bozon, David Broll, Mathieu Coderre-Gagnon, Connor Crisp, Philip DeSimone, Josiah Didier, Markus Eisenschmid, Bobby Farnham, Max Friberg, Joel Hanley, Ryan Johnston, Brett Lernout, Mark MacMillan, Stefano Momesso, Thomas Parisi, Philip Samuelsson, Dalton Thrower and Yannick Veilleux to the AHL. Zach Fucale took responsibility for Montreal's 4-3 loss to Toronto in Saturday's rookie tournament game.

Fucale allowed the game-winning goal to sneak between his body and his left arm. "I’ll take the blame for that one," said Fucale. "The guys showed a lot of character to come back and I made the mistake. There were some good things and there are some things I have to work on." The Canadiens will expect better from the 21-year-old, who's entering his second year of professional hockey. With Carey Price, Al Montoya, Mike Condon and Charlie Lindgren ahead of him on the depth chart, don't expect Fucale to suit up in any NHL games this season.

The Montreal Canadiens have returned netminder Zachary Fucale to AHL St. John's.

The 20-year-old Fucale hasn't, and isn't expected to, see any NHL ice this season. Fucale has surrendered 36 goals during his 12 games with St. John's, though he's still 7-2-2 with his .907 save percentage. He also, somehow, has a trio of assists.

Montreal has called up netminder Zachary Fucale.

Dustin Tokarski had been serving as Mike Condon's backup, but now that role will go to Fucale. He has posted a 7-2-2 record with St. John's of the AHL this season along with a 3.12 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.

With Carey Price impeding the ultimate goal of being a No. 1 goalie in mind, Montreal Canadiens prospect Zachary Fucale is wise to take the patient approach he's claiming.

He told that he's comfortable biding his time in striving for his dream of playing at the top level, whether that means it happens at age "18 or 30." He's already 20, but he merely needs to look at Carey Price pushing Jose Theodore as an example of how things can change for goalies. That doesn't mean it will be easy, however.

Zachary Fucale's contract carries an average annual value of $685,000.

The Canadiens took him in the second round of the 2013 draft and inked him to a three-year, entry-level deal Saturday. Fucale had a 2.35 goals-against average and .909 save percentage in the QMJHL last season.

Montreal has signed Zachary Fucale to a three-year, entry level contract.

He was selected in the second round, 36th overall, by the Canadiens in the 2013 draft after helping the Halifax Mooseheads win the Memorial Cup.

Zachary Fucale is enjoying the experience of participating in Team Canada's summer junior development camp.

"It's fun to be part of the big stage like this," Fucale told The Canadian Press. "The difference between the under-18 team and the junior team is huge. You feel it right away. The (intra-squad) game today was really intense. I can't wait to go to Lake Placid and play against other countries." He will probably be competing for a starting job with Team Canada at their evaluation camp for the world junior tournament. Fucale won the Memorial Cup championship last season with Halifax and he was drafted in the second round by Montreal this past June.

Zachary Fucale was excited to be selected by the Montreal Canadiens.

"I grew up in Montreal and I think every kid in Montreal dreams of playing for the Canadiens," said Fucale, who went 36th overall in the 2013 draft. "It's such a great feeling wearing this sweater and I hope that the next time I wear it, I've earned it." He doesn't have much time to relax and soak it in with the Canadiens' development camp set for Wednesday. It's been a while since Montreal has picked a goaltender and they haven't drafted one this high since they snagged Carey Price fifth overall in 2005.

The Montreal Canadiens have selected goaltender Zachary Fucale with the 36th overall selection in the NHL Entry Draft.

The goalie for the Memorial Cup-winning Halifax Mooseheads was the first netminder selected in this year's draft and will certainly be in the running to be the "goalie of the future" for the Habs.

Zachary Fucale turned aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced in a 3-1 win versus P.E.I. on Thursday night.

The Halifax netminder has been excellent this year, sporting a 21-3-0-1 record and a 2.58 goals-against average. Fucale is projected to be one of the first goalies taken in the 2013 NHL draft.

Zachary Fucale made 15 saves in Halifax's 11-2 win Saturday night.

Considered one of the best goalie prospects for the 2013 draft, Fucale is 4-1 on the year but hasn't been overly impressive with a 2.40 goals-against average and .889 save percentage. He's got the tools to be a good one, but on this team he's rarely been asked to be impeccable.
