The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed Jean-Sebastien Dea to a one-year, two-way contract.
The deal will pay him $650,000 if he's able to stick at the NHL level. Dea made his NHL debut in the final game of the 2016-17 regular season. Dea was called up on Sunday to make his NHL debut. He had two penalty minutes and a shot on goal while logging 11:18 minutes against the Rangers.

Jean-Sebastien Dea has been playing well in the AHL.

Dea was undrafted but signed with the Penguins after scoring 45 goals and 85 points in 68 games with Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL in 2013. He followed up with a 49 goal performance last season and has eight goals and 18 points in 26 games with the Baby Pens this season in the AHL. He is an offensive center and that could be a problem in cracking the Penguins lineup, but it's a good problem for Pittsburgh to have.

Undrafted prospect Jean-Sebastien Dea has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins also removed Dea from their training camp roster. Dea will head back to the QMJHL Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, where he recorded 85 points in 68 games last season.

The second year center from Laprairie, Québec has 22 points in 10 games with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. He is also currently leading the CHL in Goals (15) and Points (22). Dea was drafted by the Huskies in the third round of the 2011 draft. We may be witnessing a breakout season.

Jean-Sebastien Dea had a hat trick and an assist in Rouyn-Noranda's 5-4 victory over Acadie-Bathurst on Wednesday.

In a mere eight QMJHL games, Dea has already scored 14 goals and 19 points. At this rate he'll shatter his rookie totals of 17 goals and 15 assists in 50 contests. Dea is tied for first in the QMJHL in points with Phillip Danault, but Danault has played in two more games. Dea also has a comfortable lead in the goal scoring race.
