Darnell Nurse scored and filled up the stat sheet in the Oilers 4-2 loss to Los Angeles on Thursday.

Nurse played in 22:31 of ice-time and was credited with seven shots on goal, three hits and four blocked shots while registering a minus-1. The goal was his third of the season just fifth point in 18 games season. Oscar Klefbom scored the other goal for the Oilers.

Darnell Nurse found the back of the net in Tuesday's 3-2 OT loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Nurse's goal at the 8:38 mark of the third period tied the game at two. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up the lone assist on Nurse's second goal of the season. The Oilers defenseman has four points and six penalty minutes in 10 games in 2016-17. Anton Lander also scored for Edmonton.
Nov 1 - 10:38 PM

Darnell Nurse has taken a more defensive role this season.

Nurse is concentrating on the defensive side of the game rather than jumping into the rush at every opportunity. "It’s changed for me this year...I find myself in the right spots more," said Nurse. "I’m not trying to force things. The game for me has slowed down. Same principles I’ve always had though. That’s to play hard and not be fun to play against. Close down the time and the space the other guys have. I’m getting more comfortable." Nurse is one of the Oilers bright young defensemen and has a goal and three points in eight games thus far.
Oct 30 - 7:02 AM

Darnell Nurse had no trouble capping off a sweet feed from Connor McDavid in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Jets in the Heritage Classic.

Not two minutes after Mark Letestu had scored on his own breakaway, the two youngsters rushed in on their own and was highlighted by McDavid's aerial feed and Nurse's top-shelf tally. It was his first of the season, giving him three points in six games thus far.

The Edmonton Oilers could have trouble placing Darnell Nurse in their lineup.

The 21-year-old blueliner was asked to do too much too soon, with the Oilers last season and ended up playing too many minutes in his 69 NHL games. Nurse is going to be a good one but the Oilers can`t risk losing him by playing him in situations that can hurt his development. "I look at Darnell as a five-tool D-man. His skating ability is exceptional. He’s got a bite and a tenacity to him and there’s more offensively there," said coach Todd McLellan. "We have to let him feel good about that, and defensively, he’ll improve. We have an all-around defenceman who can play any which way. Rugged. Or a skill guy. He has the tools for that. Physically, he’s bigger and stronger, but that’s Mother Nature helping out. In Darnell’s case, it’s not about his strength, it’s about reading and reacting (as a D-man). I think he can have a big year for us." Nurse could be a top pairing defenseman this season but it`s better for his development to be one peg down from there.

Darnell Nurse will complete the 2015-16 campaign in the minors.

He spent most of the season with Edmonton and will get some extra playing time now that the Oilers' year is over. Nurse picked up 10 points and 60 penalty minutes in 69 games with Edmonton. He has one assist in six appearances with Bakersfield.
Apr 11 - 4:37 PM

Darnell Nurse finished his rookie campaign on a high note.

Through 69 games Nurse posted three goals and 10 points, including his final tally during Saturday's 4-3 shootout loss to Vancouver. It's easy to see why the club is so excited by him, hopefully he can avoid the sophomore slump.
Apr 10 - 2:38 AM

Darnell Nurse is likely to play Saturday in the season finale after taking a puck to his neck against Vancouver.

Nurse was blocking a shot in the first period when the injury occurred. "Just got a puck in the throat," said Nurse. "Still scary when it hits your Adam’s apple. Could have been a lot worse; it’s just a little swollen and some vocal chords are messed up." Nurse has plenty of upside and will likely be the Oilers one or two defenseman for years to come.
Apr 9 - 8:08 AM

Darnell Nurse was a stellar plus-four Thursday.

It was his best game as an Oiler as his previous best was a plus-two effort. The defenseman has a lot of upside and he fought Micheal Haley early in the match. "He can take stick up for himself. He’s a big man, big boy," coach Todd McLellan said. "Darnell did his thing and after that, the game took on a life of its own away from that stuff. We were well equipped for anything else (dressing Luke Gazdic too). That may have distracted us early in the game and we took some really dumb penalties and also had a call that was tough to figure out." Nurse has only two goals and nine points this season but those numbers will improve exponentially in the years to come.
Mar 26 - 7:48 AM

Darnell Nurse collected an assist and fought during Thursday's 6-3 win over San Jose.

Nurse fought Michael Haley just 3:11 in to the match, but the defender would go on to play 19:33 over the game. The assist was his seventh, bringing him just one point shy of double-digits.
Mar 25 - 1:46 AM

Darnell Nurse has served his three-game suspension.

Nurse was punished for starting an altercation with San Jose's Roman Polak. While Nurse has been ineligible to play, he's spent his time studying the Oilers' games as well as working out. "You never want to be in that position, but at the same time you have to use your time wisely, learn from it," he said. "Watch and learn and get better in the gym."
Mar 16 - 10:55 AM

Darnell Nurse has been suspended three games for violating Rule 46.2 as the aggressor of an altercation with San Jose's Roman Polak.

The league believes that Nurse was attempting to retaliate over an earlier hit on Matt Hendricks. The Oilers defenseman delivered the first punch before Polak had taken his gloves off. Nurse will be eligible to return on March 16th.
Mar 10 - 12:36 PM

Darnell Nurse has a hearing scheduled for Thursday.

The reasoning for the hearing is under Rule 46.2 (Aggressor) for an altercation with San Jose's Roman Polak on Tuesday night.
Mar 9 - 12:35 PM

Darnell Nurse has been averaging 20:45 minutes per game.

Nurse is the only member of the 2015-16 rookie class to be getting at least 20 minutes per game. "It's sometimes unfair to play Darnell that much because we don't get a chance to protect those guys a lot. He’ll get exposed at times when he's tired or out of position, but that’s the development phase we have him in right now. Is it ideal? No," said Oilers coach Todd McLellan. Edmonton needs him to develop into a top-tier defenseman and he just might manage that.
