Darnell Nurse (ankle) might make his return on Friday or Sunday.

As previously reported, Nurse will miss Edmonton's games on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the fact that he might return shortly after that is encouraging. He hasn't played since Dec. 1, so getting into the swing of things during the final push might be an issue, but Nurse is optimistic about that. "It’s a tough time to come back because everybody’s pushing and teams are going full steam, but it’s not like I haven’t played in the league before or I’ve been out all year. Way I look at it is I’ll be fresh, I can bring some legs and energy," said Nurse.

Darnell Nurse (ankle) will miss Tuesday and Wednesday's games.

Nurse hasn't played since Dec. 1. He should be getting close though, especially after he resumed practicing about a week ago.
Feb 20 - 1:48 PM

After skating on his own for the last two weeks, Darnell Nurse has joined the Oilers for a full practice.

"It’s nice to be out there with the guys and getting back up to pace," Nurse said. It's been eight weeks since his original 12-week diagnosis, and there's an outside shot where he may beat that timeline. "That being said, there is still a lot of work to be done to get back to playing shape and be a difference maker night in and night out." Stay patient, Oilers fans.
Feb 12 - 6:21 PM

Unfortunately, Darnell Nurse is not yet ready to return from his ankle injury.

He was projected to need 12 weeks to recover from surgery, which was back in the second week of December. Which means that Nurse may not return for a few more weeks.
Feb 10 - 8:14 PM

Darnell Nurse (ankle) skated on his own prior to Monday's practice.

Nurse is still probably more than a month away from returning, so don't get excited yet. He has three goals and five points in 25 games this season.
Jan 31 - 4:26 AM

The Edmonton Oilers will provide an update on the lower body injury suffered by Darnell Nurse Monday.

It is thought that the injury was to his ankle and possibly a high ankle sprain. If so, Nurse will likely still be out of action for at least another month but more will be known later today. He has five points this season and has already been out 10 days. Stay tuned.

Darnell Nurse will be lost to the Oilers "long-term" due to a lower body injury.

Well that's not good news. In his second full season in the bigs, the 21-year-old was blossoming well. Nurse posted five points along with 17 PIMs, 25 blocks, and 60 hits.

Darnell Nurse scored and filled up the stat sheet in the Oilers 4-2 loss to Los Angeles on Thursday.

Darnell Nurse found the back of the net in Tuesday's 3-2 OT loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Nurse's goal at the 8:38 mark of the third period tied the game at two. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up the lone assist on Nurse's second goal of the season. The Oilers defenseman has four points and six penalty minutes in 10 games in 2016-17. Anton Lander also scored for Edmonton.

Darnell Nurse has taken a more defensive role this season.

Nurse is concentrating on the defensive side of the game rather than jumping into the rush at every opportunity. "It’s changed for me this year...I find myself in the right spots more," said Nurse. "I’m not trying to force things. The game for me has slowed down. Same principles I’ve always had though. That’s to play hard and not be fun to play against. Close down the time and the space the other guys have. I’m getting more comfortable." Nurse is one of the Oilers bright young defensemen and has a goal and three points in eight games thus far.

Darnell Nurse had no trouble capping off a sweet feed from Connor McDavid in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Jets in the Heritage Classic.

Not two minutes after Mark Letestu had scored on his own breakaway, the two youngsters rushed in on their own and was highlighted by McDavid's aerial feed and Nurse's top-shelf tally. It was his first of the season, giving him three points in six games thus far.

The Edmonton Oilers could have trouble placing Darnell Nurse in their lineup.

The 21-year-old blueliner was asked to do too much too soon, with the Oilers last season and ended up playing too many minutes in his 69 NHL games. Nurse is going to be a good one but the Oilers can`t risk losing him by playing him in situations that can hurt his development. "I look at Darnell as a five-tool D-man. His skating ability is exceptional. He’s got a bite and a tenacity to him and there’s more offensively there," said coach Todd McLellan. "We have to let him feel good about that, and defensively, he’ll improve. We have an all-around defenceman who can play any which way. Rugged. Or a skill guy. He has the tools for that. Physically, he’s bigger and stronger, but that’s Mother Nature helping out. In Darnell’s case, it’s not about his strength, it’s about reading and reacting (as a D-man). I think he can have a big year for us." Nurse could be a top pairing defenseman this season but it`s better for his development to be one peg down from there.
