It should come as no surprise that Team Finland has selected Florida Panther forwards Aleksander Barkov and Jussi Jokinen to play in the upcoming World Cup of Hockey.
The two paced Finland in the recently completed IIHF World Championships in Russia. Barkov is coming off a 59-point season (in only 66 games) and is a rising NHL star. Panther forwards Aleksander Barkov and Jussi Jokinen paced Finland to a 6-2 win over Belarus at the World Hockey Championships Friday.

Barkov registered two assists in the win, while Jokinen also recorded a helper. Barkov is coming off a breakout NHL season in which he registered 59 points in 66 games. He is also nominated for the Lady Byng Trophy awarded to the player who exhibited sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct with a high standard of playing ability. Barkov should be high on your draft lists come September.

The trophy is awarded "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." Should he win the award, he'll join Brian Campbell (2012) as the only winners in franchise history.

Aleksander Barkov will once again represent don Team Finland's colors, this time in this May's World Hockey Championship in Russia.

Barkov won Bronze with Finland in the Sochi Olympics, and also posted seven points in eight games during last summer's WHC. Barkov also posted career highs across the board for the Panthers this season, with 28 goals and 59 points to his credit.

Aleksander Barkov scored a goal in Friday's 2-1 double OT loss to the Islanders in Game 5.

Barkov's goal at the 1:59 mark of the third period tied the game at one. After 36 minutes of overtime hockey, Alan Quine ended the game with his first career playoff goal for the Islanders. The series now shifts back to Brooklyn with the Panthers on the brink of elimination. Barkov has two goals and three points in the series. Game 6 goes on Sunday.

He gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead early in the second period, but the Islanders rallied to take Game 3. Barkov has a goal and an assist in his first three postseason appearances.

The trio was instrumental is Florida coming back from a 3-0 deficit to top the Canadiens on Saturday night. "They’re phenomenal, they have size, they’re strong on the puck," Therrien said. "They dominate the game, it’s pretty simple."
