Aleksander Barkov has been nominated for the Lady Byng Trophy.
Barkov had 27 goals, 78 points and 14 penalty minutes in 79 games this season. He wasn’t chosen as one of the finalists for the Selke Trophy, so it’s nice to see him get some recognition for his outstanding season. Vegas’ William Karlsson and Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly have also been nominated for the Lady Byng Award. Apr 20 - 6:37 PM

Aleksander Barkov was a notable omission among the three Selke Trophy finalists, which were announced on Wednesday.

Boston's Patrice Bergeron, Philadelphia's Sean Couturier and Los Angeles' Anze Kopitar were selected by the Professional Hockey Writers Association. Barkov was thought to be a strong contender for the league's best defensive forward award during the regular season. His numbers also stack up well against the finalists, but Florida not making the playoffs may have played a factor in him not being nominated.

Aleksander Barkov (undisclosed) will miss the final two games of the regular season.

Barkov was injured in Thursday's game against the Bruins when he was hit into the boards awkwardly by Colby Cave. The Panthers still have a chance to make the playoffs if they win their last two games and the Flyers lose their final one, but they'll have to accomplish all that without Barkov, who is arguably their MVP this season. The 22-year-old has 27 goals and 78 points in 79 games this season. Even if the Panthers sneak into the post-season, there's no guarantee that he'll be able to play.
Apr 7 - 11:09 AM

Aleksander Barkov was forced to leave Thursday's game against Boston late in the third period following a hit he received from Colby Cave along the boards.

Coach Bob Boughner did not have an update on Barkov's status after the contest. "I know the doctors are back there checking him out, so I don’t have anything as of now," Boughner said. "Didn't look great when he was going off the ice, to be honest. … Everyone’s playing hard at this time of year and finishing hits. We'll take it day by day. Hopefully, he’s all right. Hopefully we can get him back, but I didn't like the way it looked when he left the ice." Barkov scored his 27th goal of the season and logged 16:40 of ice time in the contest before his exit. Florida has to win out and get some help to make the playoffs. Potentially, losing their top center would put them in a deeper hole.
Apr 6 - 9:29 AM

Aleksander Barkov registered two assists in Monday's 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Barkov picked up the primary helpers on goals by Evgenii Dadonov (power play) and Alex Petrovic (game-winner). The Panthers center finished the night with an even rating, three shots on goal and one hit in 19:05 of ice time. The 22-year-old has failed to score a goal in eight consecutive games, but he helped his team pick up two huge points in the standings tonight. Barkov has 26 goals and 51 points in 77 games this season. The Panthers are now five points behind the Devils for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Florida has a game in hand.
Apr 2 - 11:08 PM

Aleksander Barkov has been quiet offensively of late.

Barkov has just one goal in his last 13 contests and he's picked up just two assists in his last five games. The Panthers forward is averaging over 22 minutes of ice time this season, which is a big number for a forward, and it looks like he's running out of gas because of it. "There’s never a shift that goes by that he’s not giving you his all," head coach Bob Boughner said. "I think he’s hit the wall a little bit in the last couple games, but Barky’s been able to find that extra gear all year. It’s not going to be anything different tomorrow. I think we know how important the game is, the next few games are. I’m not worried about Barky. Even when his game isn’t at its best, he still can make huge contributions."
Mar 31 - 10:40 AM

The Florida Panthers were shut out by the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 4-0 tonight.

After a scoreless first period, the Blue Jackets scored three goals in the opening 5:42 of the second frame to pull away from the Panthers. Aleksander Barkov was neutralized by Columbus, only firing off one shot on goal and finishing the game a minus-2. The Panthers sit one point behind the New Jersey Devils for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and will host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday.

Aleksander Barkov scored his 26th goal of the season in Monday's 2-0 win over Montreal.

Barkov, who ended a six-game goalless skid, scored early in the third period after Aaron Ekblad opened the scoring in the first frame. He had six helpers during his mini-goal slump. Barkov is up to 71 points in 69 games this campaign.
Mar 20 - 10:14 AM

Aleksander Barkov will be in charge of shutting down Connor McDavid when the Panthers and Oilers meet on Saturday afternoon.

Barkov has emerged as one of the best two-way centers in the game, so it'll be interesting to see how he handles himself in a matchup against the most dynamic player in the league. "I like our matchups all year, but yeah, Barky will be the guy that McDavid will see most of the night," head coach Bob Boughner said. "There’s going to be some shifts where (Vincent Trocheck) is going to have to see him. Troch did a real good job in Edmonton against him, so against that guy, it’s not just one guy shutting him down. Your whole line’s got to be responsible and your D have got to be a part of it as well." This should be a good battle.
Mar 17 - 8:58 AM
