Watching fellow undersized defenseman Torey Krug succeed in the 2013 playoffs greatly encouraged Boston Bruins prospect Matthew Grzelcyk.

"It was nice to see," Grzelcyk said. "(People) kind of always knock the smaller guys. It was nice to see the success (Krug) had and what he brought to the table for the team. It was great." Matthew Grzelcyk has been impressive in the early going with Boston University.

The defenseman was taken in the third round of the 2012 draft by the Bruins. Just 18 years old, Grzelcyk has a lot to work on, which includes strengthening his 5-foot-9, 175-pound frame, but he's started the year off with three assists in four games, impressing BU coach Jack Parker with his instincts. "He has what I call that ‘Larry Bird’ court vision," said Jack Parker. "He sees things developing and is able to work the puck into a space before the window closes. He’s got great skating speed to go along with it, which doesn’t hurt either."
