The Avalanche are thrilled to have acquired defenseman Nikita Zadorov in the Ryan O'Reilly deal with Buffalo.
Avs' GM Joe Sakic believes Zadorov can be a big piece on the team going forward. "We're looking for back-end help and Zadorov is a huge piece," Sakic said. "We're excited to be able to do a deal like that and have a big 6-foot-5 defenseman who can skate and shoot and play that style". We wouldn't be surprised if Zadorov blossoms in Colorado and gets considerable second power-play ice time behind Tyson Barrie and Erik Johnson. Jun 27 - 1:33 PM

Nikita Zadorov has been sent to Colorado along with Mikhail Grigorenko, JT Compher and the 31st overall pick for Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn.

Still just 20-years-old Zadorov has scored just 16 points during his first 67 games of his NHL career for Buffalo. He carries a $894K cap hit for two more seasons as well. Eventually, Zadorov is expected to blossom into a top-end defender.
Jun 26 - 7:31 PM

Nikita Zadorov is already drawing praise from new Head Coach Dan Bylsma.

The new Buffalo Sabres bench boss seems to think Zadorov is ready to be a mainstay in the NHL, and won't need time in the AHL. Though it's worth noting that GM Tim Murray stated that Zadorov "needs to learn from his mistakes." The young defender is entering his age-20 season, and already has 67 NHL games under his belt. He averaged 17:42 of ice time last season, and sits in prime position to make a name for himself.
Jun 11 - 7:24 PM

Nikita Zadorov promises to be more mature next season.

"I made a couple mistakes this year off the ice, and it's all maturity," he said. "I'm not going to make them anymore." GM Tim Murray spoke with Zadorov about the team's expectations during their exit interview and the 19-year-old defenseman says he got the message. He was benched for a total of five games for two punctuality infractions. Zadorov recorded 15 points and 51 penalty minutes in 60 games this past campaign. He has plenty of potential and he's certainly worth keeping an eye on.
Apr 15 - 11:12 AM

Nikita Zadorov will take Tyson Strachan’s spot on the blue line for Monday’s contest with the Coyotes.

Zadorov will get another chance to make a lasting impression for Buffalo as the season nears an end. Zadorov was a healthy scratch Saturday versus Colorado but will tag in for Strachan Monday night. In 53 games this season, the 19-year-old Russian has registered three goals and 14 points with 47 penalty minutes and 47 shots on goal.
Mar 30 - 5:13 PM

Look for Nikita Zadorov to sit in the press box once again Saturday.

He will not dress for Saturday night's contest against Colorado as coach Ted Nolan is not happy with his worth ethic. Buffalo coach Ted Nolan had the following to say about Zadorov: "When you're going for certain things and your expectations have to be a certain level and if you don't do it, you're not going to get better, I don't care who you are. You look at Tyler Ennis and why he gets better, because he works at it. Nikita has to work on his game, he can’t just hope and rely on talent." Yikes. Looks as if Zadorov still has a lot of growing up to do before he will be fantasy worthy.

Mar 28 - 10:35 AM

Nikita Zadorov was back in the lineup on Saturday.

He picked up an assist and logged 15:09 of ice time in Buffalo's 5-3 loss to Florida. Zadorov hadn't played since Feb. 19 and he was scratched for the last two games after he arrived late for a team meeting.
Mar 2 - 8:18 AM

Nikita Zadorov and Tyson Strachan will be scratched on Thursday night against the Vancouver Canucks.

Coach Nolan continues to send a message as this will be the 20 year old Zadorov's fourth consecutive game in the stands. He's having a nice rookie campaign with 100 hits and 13 points through 42 games.

Nikita Zadorov will be scratched on Tuesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This will be Zadorov's third straight game in the stands, his second after being disciplined. The 20 year old defender is having a nice rookie campaign with 100 hits and 13 points through 42 games.
Feb 24 - 7:08 PM

Nikita Zadorov didn't arrive for a morning meeting and it may cost him another game.

He was scratched for Sunday's game versus Nashville and could sit Tuesday against Columbus as well. Zadorov watched two games from the press box when he returned to Buffalo late from the All-Star break. "It was my mistake 100 percent," Zadorov said. "No excuses. I couldn't do that. I spoke with the team, said, 'I'm sorry boys, don't want to lose your trust.' It's all about the team. I just want to get back as soon as I can and help my team." Mark Pysyk may get another game in Zadorov's place.
Feb 24 - 9:16 AM

Buffalo has banned Nikita Zadorov from playing two times this season for disciplinary reasons, including Sunday's meeting against Nashville.

"Sometimes you're mature in certain things. Sometimes you're not," coach Ted Nolan said. "Unfortunately, we'll have to deal with him. It's tough on the team overall, but like I said I'd rather just not discuss it publicly. We had a number of discussions, and then another thing happened this morning. We'll just talk to him again." The first suspension Zadorov received was given after he reported to the team late from the All-Star break. The 19-year-old defender figures to be a big part of the Sabres' future, so his issues right now are a bit concerning.
Feb 23 - 8:52 AM

Nikita Zadorov won't play in Sunday's game against Nashville because of "team reasons".

We're not quite sure what the reasons are, but he probably violated some kind of team rule. The 19-year-old was a healthy scratch in Buffalo's last game on Friday as well. He has three goals and 13 points in 42 games. "We’ll see, right now it’s for team reasons and we’ll deal with that as we go," coach Ted Nolan said "It’s tough, it’s tough on the team overall." The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning.

Feb 22 - 12:38 PM

Sabres head coach Ted Nolan said he made Nikita Zadorov a healthy scratch on Friday because he feels his young defenseman is overwhelmed.

"We found he’s getting a little overwhelmed lately, so we’re going to give him a day off," Nolan said of Zadorov. "In order for the proper development to take place, you can’t keep putting him and keep putting him. You have to sit back and watch and learn. He’s a 19-year-old kid." Zadorov has three goals, 13 points and a minus-12 rating in 42 games this season.
Feb 21 - 9:20 AM

Nikita Zadorov will sit out as Tyson Strachan tags in on Friday night against the New York Rangers.

Zadorov is having a fine rookie season, especially as a 19 year old for a team like Buffalo. Through 42 games this season, he has 13 points, 37 PIMs, 52 hits, and 100 hits. Strachan meanwhile through 30 games hasn't quite been so good for fantasy. He has just five points, 28 PIMs, 42 hits, and 67 blocks through 30 games this season. Keep an eye on Zadorov as his talent, and team, evolves.
Feb 20 - 6:14 PM

Nikita Zadorov scored a goal in Buffalo's 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

Zadorov's goal at the 13:57 mark of the second period tied the game at 1-1. Rasmus Ristolainen and Marcus Foligno collected assists on the power play goal. Zadorov has scored seven points in his last seven games. The 19-year-old is playing better of late and the Sabres will hope that he keeps progressing. He was Buffalo's first round pick in 2013 (16th overall).
