Nikita Zadorov is happy to be in rookie camp with the Colorado Avalanche.
The 21-year-old has 89 games of NHL experience with Buffalo and Colorado, but that won't stop him from jumping on the ice with the rookies. "I’m always happy to get on the ice, and it’s actually (partly) my decision to be here," Zadorov said. "I wanted to start skating earlier and I get to play some games to be more prepared for the main camp. So I’m happy." The Avs will hope to see Zadorov make a big impact at the NHL level. He had just two assists in 22 games with Colorado last season, but added 10 goals, 29 points and 90 penalty minutes in 52 AHL games in 2015-16. He has the potential to be a top pairing NHL defenseman. Sep 17 - 12:10 PM

Nikita Zadorov is going to get more playing time with Colorado next season.

The Avalanche want to get younger on the back end and develop their defenders in the NHL, so Zadorov, Chris Bigras and Eric Gelinas will get larger roles. "What we're doing is allowing more ice time for these guys," Joe Sakic said. "We're going to get our young guys on the ice more because these are the guys that, in a few years, are going to be our (main) guys." Zadorov spent most of the 2015-16 season in the minors after being acquired from Buffalo.

Nikita Zadorov (concussion) is expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday against Nashville.

He was cleared through the NHL's concussion protocol, but he didn't have a problem with the hit that sidelined him. "It was a clean hit, that's why I recovered so fast," Zadorov said. "It wasn't the head or anything. It happened. I've been hitting all my life and now it's probably time for me to get hit from someone."

Nikita Zadorov was summoned up by Colorado on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Zadorov is enjoying a nice season for AHL San Antonio. He's posted 10 goals and 29 points with 90 PIMs in 52 games thus far, in his first taste of pro minor league hockey. He has 18 points and 65 PIMs in 83 career NHL games.
Mar 27 - 3:28 PM

The Avalanche have re-assigned Nikita Zadorov to San Antonio of the AHL.

His roster spot was needed to accommodate the return of Erik Johnson. Zadarov has played well in his latest five-game stint alongside Francois Beauchemin and his demotion was a little surprising given the Avs could have sent down Chris Bigras. Zadorov remains a top prospect and he will be back in Colorado soon enough.

Nikita Zadorov will suit up on Thursday night against New Jersey.

It will be his first game with the Avalanche since Nov. 5. Zadorov was assigned to the minors shortly after that contest, but he was brought back up on Wednesday as the Avalanche altered their defense corps.

Jan 13 - 4:12 PM

Nikita Zadorov has been summoned from the minors.

He has registered eight goals, 18 points and 48 penalty minutes in 28 games with Colorado's minor-league affiliate in San Antonio this year. He had two points in 11 outings with the Avalanche before going to the AHL.
Jan 13 - 1:15 PM

Joe Sakic wants to see Nikita Zadorov play big minutes in the AHL instead of playing a limited role in the NHL.

"A little bit like Rantanen, I think he lost a little bit of confidence," Sakic said of Zadorov, "and if you’re not playing PK, PP — the quality minutes — as a young guy, (they need to go down). We’re going to need him (in the future). For a young man in that position, he needs to play a ton and work on his confidence. He’ll go down and play as much as he can and keep learning that way. The only way you can get better is by playing a lot at a young man’s age." The 20-year-old was demoted to the AHL San Antonio on Saturday.

The Avalanche assigned defenseman Nikita Zadorov to San Antonio of the AHL.

He has been a healthy scratch of late so he will likely be better served honing his craft in the AHL than sitting in an NHL press box. Mediocre veterans Nate Guenin and Brad Stuart will continue to play instead of the talented, but still green Russian youngster. Zadorov will be back.

Coach Patrick Roy wants Nikita Zadorov to learn and develop by playing and watching.

He has done the latter for the past two games as a healthy scratch. "I said all along we're going to use our eight Ds, and that's what we've been doing," Roy said. "Z is a long-term project for us." Perhaps, Zadorov will be back in the lineup on Thursday against Arizona.

NIkita Zadorov and Nate Guenin will each be scratched from Tuesday's game with the Flames.

Unfortunately, Guenin's potential value has only come through 16 blocks in nine games thus far. Zadorov meanwhile has two assists, seven blocks, and 33 hits in 10 games. Niche contributors for sure, but there's something to work with if you're in a pinch.

Nikita Zadorov will be a healthy scratch in Sunday's game against San Jose.

The 20-year-old has played in each of Colorado's 10 games to start the year, but he won't be in on Sunday. He has two assists in 2015-16. Brandon Gormley will also be scratched for Colorado.

Nikita Zadorov has spent his summer skating in the Denver area with a few fellow NHLers and getting used to his new home.

"It's kind of hard when you're moving to another city right away, but right now it's awesome. I got to know the city, got to know the people and I think it's a great city," said the prized piece of return in the Ryan O'Reilly trade. "Up in the mountains, it's hard to breathe. Just different weather, and right now I'm just getting used to everything." At 6'5 and 230 pounds, the Avs are hoping they found a defenseman ready to play top-four minutes right away.
