Nikita Zadorov has been scratched for the last two games because coach Jared Bednar has not been satisfied with his play.

"We've got a young group of D-men and some guys are still trying to prove themselves and where exactly they shake out in our lineup and what they do for us consistently. Z falls into that category for us," Bednar said. "He's got a lot of potential. He's been scratched just based on performance. We've liked what we've see from some other guys a little bit more consistently than what we've seen from Z so far this year." It's unclear if Zadorov will play Thursday against Carolina, but he needs to work himself back into Bednar's favor with some strong practices.

"I think it was important to keep him last night because we have to make sure that everyone is on the same page coming into this thing." Bednar didn't say who might be scratched to free up a spot, but it could be Andrei Mironov, who logged just 11:24 minutes on Thursday.

"It's just based on what we've seen through training camp," coach Jared Bednar explained. "He came in a little late and has some catching up to do, and we've liked what some of those other guys have done. So that's the lineup we decided on." Zadorov was initially projected to play with Erik Johnson on the top pairing.
