Nikita Zadorov scored the only Buffalo goal in a 5-1 loss to the Jets on Tuesday night.
Zadorov's second of the campaign came on a first period power play and was assisted by Cody Hodgson and Rasmus Ristolainen. With just four points in 21 games, the young Russian possesses significant potential, but is not a fantasy factor at this time. Dec 17 - 1:15 AM

There's a good chance the Buffalo Sabres will not send Nikita Zadorov to play for Russia at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Sabres have suffered a few injuries on defense and they will probably need Zadorov going forward, which is fine with the young Russian. "I'm playing here. With 'Webby' out, what's the reason that you would send me? " Zadorov said. "I love my country and the chance to play for them. But I think it's better for me to play in the best league in the world, so why send me somewhere? It's better to play in the big time here and help my team win every game." The 19-year-old has one goal, three point and a plus-5 rating in 19 games for Buffalo.

Nikita Zadorov scored the game-winning goal as the Sabres defeated the Panthers 4-3 in overtime Saturday night.

Zadorov tripled his point production in one night. He also had an assist on Cody Hodgson’s first-period goal to give him three points in 19 games. Brian Gionta tied the game at three in the middle of the third period. Marcus Foligno potted the other marker in the win.

Nikita Zadorov and the Sabres were shut out 5-0 by the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, but the rookie did yield 14 minutes in penalties.

Zadorov has one assist and is a plus-five through 19 games this season to go with 27 penalty minutes. The Sabres' meagre offence only managed 13 shots in the game.
Dec 5 - 12:44 AM

Nikita Zadorov is slated to play in his ninth game of the season on Tuesday.

He appears to be sticking with the Sabres after speculation that he could play in the OHL or KHL at some point this year. "I try not to assume, but I'm more than positive he's earned his keep," coach Ted Nolan said Monday. "He was benched and scratched at the rookie camp at Traverse City, so no one gave him the benefit of the doubt of making this team. We worked at it. We worked with him." He has formed a successful pairing with Rasmus Ristolainen after playing in just one game during October.
Nov 18 - 8:44 AM

Nikita Zadorov has suited up in four straight games for the Sabres and he's played well alongside Rasmus Ristolainen.

The pairing was formed in Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh. Zadorov wasn't on the ice for any of the Penguins goals while getting 20:11 of ice time. "You know we kind of have same style of the game," Zadorov said. "It's easy to play when you move the puck quickly. If someone jumps up on offense, the other guy is going to stay back on defense. We're always behind each other and helping each other. I think it's great to have the support of your partner." He's expected to play again on Tuesday alongside Ristolainen after he couldn't get into the lineup much at the beginning of the season.
Nov 11 - 8:47 AM

The Buffalo Sabres made a tweak to their defense by adding Nikita Zadorov and Andrej Meszaros back into their lineup against the Detroit Red Wings.

One blueliner (Meszaros) seems to be approaching the end of his NHL career while the other (Zadorov) is just trying to get his off the ground. Neither are advisable starts against a Red Wings team that could very well batter Buffalo today.
Nov 2 - 3:00 PM

Nikita Zadorov was a healthy scratch for the 10th time in 11 games.

He's still with the Sabres mainly because GM Tim Murray expects a problem with the KHL if the decision is made to return him to the London Knights of the OHL. "The only option if we don't want him here is to send him to London," Murray said. "If we do that, does it become a long, drawn-out affair or is it a cut-and-dry thing? We're not sure about that. If he decides not to go or the transfer agreement is not signed by the KHL team and him, I'm sure that the CHL will say, 'He's our property,' and then there's going to have to be some type of agreement come to between the KHL and the CHL. I'm sure that the CHL will involve the International Ice Hockey Federation in that." It's a potentially troublesome situation, but Zadorov isn't getting any playing time with the Sabres right now.
Oct 31 - 9:54 AM

Nikita Zadorov made his season debut with Buffalo in Thursday's 2-0 loss to Los Angeles.

The Sabres played seven defensemen in the contest. Zadorov saw just 6:12 of ice time after he was a healthy scratch in Buffalo's previous seven games. There's still a chance that Zadorov will be returned to his junior team and it would be better than him not seeing the ice time he needs to develop his game.
Oct 24 - 9:45 AM

Nikita Zadorov is slated to be a healthy scratch for a fifth straight game Friday night.

The Sabres don't know what to do with Zadorov because they don't feel he would benefit from returning to junior and they don't think he's ready for the NHL. "I can't answer that question straight up, but we're trying to do our best with the situation," coach Ted Nolan said. "We're going to keep working at him, get his conditioning a little better. He's another promising young prospect that we have to make sure we do the best for him." He isn't eligible to go to the AHL, so it's either the OHL or the NHL for the 19-year-old blueliner. Of course, Zadorov would just like to play somewhere.
Oct 17 - 10:33 AM

Nikita Zadorov has been a healthy scratch for Buffalo's first three games, but he should get a chance to be in the lineup Tuesday night.

Andre Benoit and Andrej Meszaros have struggled out of the gate, so Zadorov or Tyson Strachan or both could play against Carolina.
Oct 14 - 7:59 AM

Admittedly, Zadorov may not make the Sabres squad out of camp. But that doesn't mean he can't impress head coach Ted Nolan.

Training camp has a myriad of purposes, one of them is separating those who are ready from those who are not, even if he's had a cup of coffee in the NHL already. "I think that’s what training camp is all about," Nolan said. "We want to demonstrate to these young kids that they have to earn these positions and not just give it to them."
Sep 20 - 12:16 AM

With the signings of Andrej Meszaros and Andre Benoit and the acquistion of Josh Gorges, Nikita Zadorov will be in a battle to make the Sabres' roster out of training camp.

There will likely only be seven spots on the team's blueline to start the campaign and in addition to Meszaros, Benoit and Gorges, Tyler Myers and Mike Weber seems like locks to make the squad. That leaves two spots for Rasmus Ristolainen, Mark Pysyk, Jake McCabe and Zadorov. The 19-year-old Russian rearguard has a boat load of talent, but it remains to be seen if he can make an impact in 2014-15.
Sep 6 - 9:26 AM

Nikita Zadorov will head back to the OHL now that the World Junior Championships is over.

He produced four goals and one assist in seven games for Team Russia. Zadorov had one goal in seven appearances with Buffalo prior to being returned to the OHL's London Knights. He has six points and 16 penalty minutes in eight OHL outings.
Jan 6 - 10:02 AM

Buffalo prospect Nikita Zadorov scored a pair of power-play goals to lead Russia over the United States in quarterfinal play at the World Junior Championships.

He scored on a couple of bullet shots during 5-on-3 advantages to give the Russians a 5-3 victory. Fellow Sabres' draft pick Mikhail Grigorenko also scored for Russia in the contest. The Americans are eliminated from medal contention, while Russia will face the winner of Slovakia and Sweden in the semifinal round.
