Buffalo was very well represented at the just completed World Junior Championships.
Jake McCabe, the Sabres' second round pick in 2012, was the gold medal winning Americans' captain and registered six points in seven games. The team's first pick last June, Mikhail Grigorenko, was arguably Russia's best forward with six points in seven games and 2011 first pick Joel Armia, who played for Finland, finished second in tournament scoring with 12 points. Jake McCabe scored two goals and registered an assist in Team USA's 5-1 victory over Team Canada in the semifinals.

McCabe has been serving as the captain for Team USA. The Buffalo Sabres prospect has two goals and nine points in 16 NCAA games this season. Team USA will face the winner of Sweden and Russia in the gold medal game.

Defenseman Jake McCabe has been named captain of the United States World Junior hockey team.

McCabe was drafted in the second round, 44th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2012 draft out of the University of Wisconsin. Cale Bardreau, J.T. Miller, Seth Jones and Jacob Trouba were named alternate captains. The Americans are one of the favorites to win gold in Russia, along with the Canadians, Russians, Swedes and Finns. The outstanding tournament begins tomorrow.
