Oct 7 - 5:06 PM

Jake McCabe scored Buffalo’s only goal in their 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.

The goal was McCabe’s first of the preseason and was scored on the power play. We don’t usually read much into the preseason, but the Sabres appear to be in for a long season. Buffalo should give their young players plenty of opportunity this year. The 20-year-old isn’t a slam dunk to make the team out of camp, but even if he is sent to the minors, a mid-season call-up isn’t out of the question. Mikhail Grigorenko and Drew Stafford picked up the assists on McCabe’s goal.
Oct 3 - 9:48 PM

Jake McCabe has been very good at training camp as he attempts to land a job with the Buffalo Sabres.

He is the hunt for spots with Rasmus Ristolainen, Andre Benoit, Nikita Zadorov and an injured Mark Pysyk. "Competition makes you better," McCabe said. "It brings the best out of you. Every day you're getting evaluated, whether it be on the ice, off the ice, practice, games. I'm not trying to be someone I'm not, and hopefully the rest will take care of itself. Obviously, I want to stay in Buffalo really bad, but it's my first year pro. I'm adjusting. I'm going to focus on getting better every day and getting used to these systems." McCabe was paired with Tyler Myers in this past Friday's preseason match against Toronto.

Apr 14 - 10:47 AM

Jake McCabe skated in his first NHL game Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues.

"I liked him," said coach Ted Nolan. "He got a little tight at the end, probably nervous, but he played well for his first game. To come into the National Hockey League and playing against arguably one of the best teams in the league, it was a good first impression." McCabe logged 16:20 of ice time and he was credited with one hit. He signed his first pro deal out of college on Wednesday.
Apr 4 - 7:33 AM

Buffalo signed college prospect Jake McCabe to a three-year, entry-level deal on Wednesday and he's expected to make his NHL debut in Thursday's game versus St. Louis.

He chose to turn pro instead of heading back to the University of Wisconsin for his senior season. McCabe had eight goals and 25 points in 36 games this past campaign. The 20-year-old blueliner was selected by Buffalo in the second round of the 2012 draft.
Apr 3 - 10:20 AM

Buffalo was very well represented at the just completed World Junior Championships.

Jake McCabe, the Sabres' second round pick in 2012, was the gold medal winning Americans' captain and registered six points in seven games. The team's first pick last June, Mikhail Grigorenko, was arguably Russia's best forward with six points in seven games and 2011 first pick Joel Armia, who played for Finland, finished second in tournament scoring with 12 points. It looks as if the Sabres will be in good hands going forward.
