Jimmy Vesey has won the 2016 Hobey Baker Award as the best player in college hockey for Harvard University.
Vesey posted 24 goals and 36 points in 33 games this season, which ironically was not his best campaign. It was in 2014-15 where he scored 32 goals and 58 points in 37 games were his high water marks. It will be interesting to see where the soon-to-be 23-year-old signs this summer. Apr 8 - 7:20 PM

Nashville GM David Poile hasn't given up trying to sign Jimmy Vesey even though the prospect plans to test free agency.

"The opportunity remains very good here for him in Nashville, and I'm going to continue to try and see whether we can persuade him to change his mind," Poile said. "I clearly believe that Jimmy's received bad advice and bad counsel. A player usually goes to free agency in order to increase his leverage and benefit financially, and that will not be the case here because whoever he signs with he's going to get less of a deal on August 15th than he could get from the Predators today. And he's going to sign for an extra year at the same money." If he goes to free agency then he can pick which team he plays for though.

It sounds as though Jimmy Vesey wants to become an unrestricted free agent.

Vesey was originally drafted by the Nashville Predators, but he can become an unrestricted free agent if he doesn't sign with them by Aug. 15. The hot rumor is that Vesey will hit the free agent market so that he can join his father (scout) and brother (prospect) in the Leafs organization.

Jimmy Vesey's NCAA career with Harvard has ended, so Nashville will meet with him in the coming days to try to work out an entry-level contract.

The Predators have until Aug. 15 to sign Vesey or he can test the open market as a free agent. Nashville is the only team that can offer him immediate NHL playing time, but several other teams will be in the hunt for his services if he chooses not to sign. Vesey, who was a third-round pick in 2012, scored 80 goals in 128 games with Harvard.

Nashville had Jimmy Vesey in mind during Monday's trade deadline talks.

"The biggest thing in this trading deadline is that we did not want to give away Vesey’s position on our team," GM David Poile said. "We have a place for him to come in and play. We feel he is as good or better than anybody we could have gotten in a trade. We want to sign him when he gets out of school. We've told him we have a place for him and I didn't want to take away that place." The Predators remain hopeful that Vesey will sign an entry-level contract with the team when his season with Harvard University is over. He has the option of testing free agency in the summer, though.

Nashville GM David Poile is still "hopeful" that prospect Jimmy Vesey will sign with the team.

He has 16 goals and 33 points in 20 games this year for Harvard University. The 22-year-old forward was taken in the third round (66th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. If he signs after his college season then he will join the Predators, but if waits until the summer then he could become a free agent in August.
Feb 2 - 6:28 PM

Jimmy Vesey has decided to return to Harvard so that he can finish his degree.

"That's something good to fall back on," Vesey said. "I'm going to wait one more year and finish my college season and hopefully sign after the year." Vesey is coming off of a strong season where he scored 32 goals and 58 points in 37 NCAA games. It's worth noting that if Vesey holds out until Aug. 15, 2016 then Nashville's exclusive negotiating rights to him will expire. That being said, Vesey has described himself as a loyal person and has expressed an interest in signing with Nashville next summer.

Jimmy Vesey will represent the United States at the upcoming World Hockey Championships.

The Nashville property spent the past three seasons playing for Harvard in NCAA competition and most recently racked up 58 points in 37 contests. This tournament could be his first opportunity to perform against professionals.

Jimmy Vesey should get some playing time in key situations for Team USA during the 2013 World Junior Championship.

"Jimmy is a scorer," Team USA coach Phil Housley said. "He's going to get an opportunity on the power play and play a regular shift. We're going to be looking to him to provide some of that offense whether that's on the power play or even strength." Vesey has five goals and eight points in nine NCAA games with Harvard University this season. He was taken by Nashville in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
