With two points, 16 blocks, 17 hits and 18 PIMs through 14 games it's easy to see why he's being benched. But it stings if you're in a reverse league.

Carrick had two goals and four points in 19 games with Toronto and the Washington Capitals last season. He also recorded 11 goals and 29 points in 52 AHL contests.

Connor Carrick collected three goals and two assists in the Toronto Marlies comeback win over Bridgeport in the AHL playoffs on Thursday night.

Toronto's AHL affiliate rallied from a 4-1 deficit to sweep the Islanders' farm club and advance to the second round of the postseason. Carrick, who appeared in 16 games with the Maple Leafs this year after he was acquired from Washington, will look to stick with the big team on a full-time basis next campaign.

The 21-year-old has scored twice in his last three contests. Carrick, who was acquired from the Washington Capitals in late February, has four points in 14 games while averaging 14:37 of ice time this season.

Connor Carrick scored his first goal of the year in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Tampa Bay.

He opened the scoring in the contest. "I was really excited to get the goal. We were humming around their end, and you want to make those count," said the 21-year-old defender. "I get pretty excited when any of my teammates score. Scoring a goal is hard in this league. To be able to contribute myself, it felt really good." He has three points in nine games with the Maple Leafs this year.

Carrick had an assist versus his former Washington teammates. Coach Mike Babcock says the 21-year-old has some "grease" to his game and he has showcased that in his first two games by playing physical.

The Leafs got Carrick, Brooks Laich and a second-round pick in 2016 for Daniel Winnik and Anaheim's fifth-round pick in 2016. Toronto takes on some salary in this trade, but they get to add a decent prospect like Carrick and another good draft pick. Carrick, 21, has skated in just three NHL games this season. He has one goal, six points and a minus-11 rating in 37 career games.
