While it didn't have the ending he wanted, 2017-18 was naturally a special campaign for Jonathan Marchessault.
Reaching the Stanley Cup Final as an expansion franchise is unheard of, but this was also a huge season for Marchessault on a personal level. He had 27 goals and 75 points in 77 contests in 2017-18 after previously setting a career-high of 51 points a season prior. "This experience, this season, every bit of it, was unbelievable," Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault said. "We wanted to finish it differently, but what an amazing experience." Marchessault will now begin a six-year, $30 million contract and if he continues to perform like he did last season then that contract will be a steal. Jun 8 - 9:29 AM

Jonathan Marchessault registered an assist in a 6-2 loss to Washington in Game 4 Monday night.

Marchessault has been limited to no goals and two assists in the Stanley Cup Final. He's one of the Golden Knights' top offensive weapons and the Capitals' ability to largely contain him is an important part of their success thus far. Washington is just one win away from claiming the Stanley Cup.

Jonathan Marchessault said Vegas' top line has to "step up" in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.

"At the end of the day, you need to get those big goals," said Marchessault. "I think we're pretty happy to get a couple of chances, but for our group it's not good enough. I think we need more." Marchessault has gone two straight games without a point, while William Karlsson and Reilly Smith were held off the scoresheet in Game 3 versus Washington on Saturday.
Jun 4 - 1:27 PM

The Vegas Golden Knights were beat by the Washington Capitals by a score of 3-1 during Saturday's Game 3 matchup.

It's a rare back-to-back loss for the Golden Knights and they now find themselves down 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. Jonathan Marchessault has now gone back-to-back games without a point for the first time since the regular-season finale and the playoff opener against the Los Angeles Kings. If Vegas is to get back in this series, they'll need to find a way to crack Braden Holtby who has been lights out during Games 2 and 3 of the series. Game 4 is scheduled for Monday night in Washington.

If you needed further confirmation that Jonathan Marchessault is available for Game 2, Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant provided it.

Marchessault briefly left Game 1 on Monday to undergo the concussion protocol after a late hit from Washington's Tom Wilson. Marchessault was able to finish out the game though and Gallant said on Tuesday that he was 100%. Gallant once again declared Marchessault healthy on Wednesday, so it seems reasonable to expect him to be in the lineup. It is worth noting that Marchessault didn't participate in Tuesday or Wednesday's practices, but both were optional so it's hard to read too much into that.
May 30 - 1:34 PM

Jonathan Marchessault is 100 percent, according to coach Gerard Gallant.

Marchessault managed to return to Monday night's game against Washington after he went through a concussion protocol check. He was tested following a late hit by Capitals winger Tom Wilson. Marchessault didn't take part in Tuesday's optional session.
May 29 - 3:27 PM

Jonathan Marchessault was on the receiving end of a late hit from Washington's Tom Wilson in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Wilson received a two-minute penalty for interference on the play. Marchessault was able to return to the contest after he went through concussion protocol. "I think the league is going to take care of it," Marchessault said. "I never saw him coming. The puck is away for a couple seconds for sure. But whatever, he's a guy who plays hard and distributes big hits out there and that's just the way it goes sometimes." Marchessault, who earned an assist in Vegas' 6-4 win over the Capitals on Monday night, is a key player for the Golden Knights. He already owns an NHL record for most points (19) by a player with a franchise in its first-ever postseason.
May 29 - 9:25 AM

Jonathan Marchessault has picked up 16 points in his last 11 contests.

Marchessault had just two assists in the first round, but he really turned it on in the second and third rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 27-year-old has been the main offensive catalyst for the Golden Knights and he'll have to keep rolling if they're going to hoist the Stanley Cup.
May 26 - 8:01 PM

With his first-period assist in Friday's night's 3-2 win over the Jets, Jonathan Marchessault tied an NHL record.

Marchessault's 18 points in the playoffs ties Jude Drouin (with the Islanders in 1975) and Igor Larionov (with San Jose in 1994) for the most points by a player with a franchise in its first-ever postseason. Marchessault seems like a good bet to break the record before the end of Vegas' playoff run.
May 19 - 10:25 AM

Jonathan Marchessault scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final.

Marchessault was quiet in Game 1 (he had two assists but only one shot), but he's been terrific in back-to-back games since then. The Golden Knights forward opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game and he added an empty-netter with seconds remaining in regulation. The 27-year-old has picked up two points in each game in this series. He's up to eight goals and 17 points in 13 games this postseason. The Golden Knights now lead this best-of-seven series 2-1. Game 4 will be played in Vegas on Friday night. This expansion team is just two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final.
May 17 - 12:01 AM

Jonathan Marchessault scored a pair of goals in Monday's 3-1 over the Winnipeg Jets in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final.

Marchessault gave the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead at the 17:22 mark of the first period after Tomas Tatar opened the scoring four minutes earlier. Marchessault then extended his team's lead to 3-1 in the third frame. He finished the game with a plus-2 rating, two penalty minutes and a game-high eight shots on goal in 19:13 of ice time. The 27-year-old has six goals and 15 points in 12 games this postseason. He's now picked up seven points during his four-game point streak. This best-of-seven series is now tied up at one. Game 3 will be played in Vegas on Wednesday night.
May 14 - 10:56 PM

The Vegas Golden Knights certainly need to get off to a better start in Game 2.

The Golden Knights were behind the eight ball quickly in the opener of the Western Conference Final as they trailed 3-0 at the 7:35 mark of the first period in losing 4-2 to a fast Winnipeg squad. "If we start the right way, we will be fine," Jonathan Marchessault said. "Good (offensive) zone shifts, puck management and bring a little more shots to the net and we will be fine. But the next game is no excuse. Everybody has to come in and be ready to play our best game of the playoffs." The Golden Knights should be better in Game 2 but so should the Jets.
May 13 - 8:06 AM

Jonathan Marchessault picked up a pair of assists in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final.

Marchessault registered the primary helpers on goals by Brayden McNabb and William Karlsson, but they were never able to climb out of the 3-0 hole they put themselves in. The Golden Knights forward finished the game with a plus-1 rating, one shot on goal and three hits in 18:22 of ice time. Since collecting two points in the first four games of the playoffs, the 27-year-old has racked up 11 points in his last seven games. He's up to four goals and 13 points in 11 contests. The Golden Knights trail this best-of-seven series 1-0. Game 2 will be played in Winnipeg on Monday night.
May 12 - 10:31 PM

Jonathan Marchessault scored an even-strength goal in Sunday's series-clinching victory in San Jose.

Marchessault netted his fourth goal of the postseason to open the scoring and it ended up being the game-winning tally since Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all of the rubber he faced. Marchessault was highly coveted by the Golden Knights in the expansion draft and he continues to pay dividends as his team is now en route to the Western Conference Finals. He continues to pay big dividends for those in postseason fantasy pools and DFS, too.
May 6 - 10:26 PM

Jonathan Marchessault scored a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-3 win over the San Jose Sharks.

Marchessault registered an assist on Alex Tuch power-play goal in the second period to make it 2-0 for the Golden Knights. He then added an empty-netter with under 1:30 left in regulation. Marchessault finished the night with four shots on goal and two hits in 18:12 of ice time. The 27-year-old has racked up three goals and 10 points in nine games during the postseason. The Golden Knights now lead this best-of-seven series 3-2, which means that one more win will send them to the Western Conference Final. Game 6 will be played in San Jose on Sunday night.
