The Washington Capitals have called up Steven Oleksy from the AHL.

Oleksy played in 33 games with Washington last year but hasn't played a game for them in 2014-15. He is irrelevant in standard fantasy leagues.
Nov 29 - 12:19 PM

The Capitals waived defenseman Steven Oleksy Monday with the hope that the 28-year-old will clear waivers in exchange for further clarity on their blue line.

Washington had four defensemen vying for two open roster spots - Oleksy, Nate Schmidt, John Erskine and Jack Hillen. Both Erskine and Oleksy were healthy scratches for a Sunday game. Schmidt is the only one of the four who is waiver-exempt, and he'll likely be demoted to AHL Hershey to begin the season.

Steven Oleksy has successfully cleared waivers.

Oleksy will report to AHL Hershey as a result. He has 10 points and 53 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Capitals in 2013-14.
Jan 21 - 12:10 PM

Steven Oleksy has been waived by the Washington Capitals.

He has notched 10 points, 46 hits, 48 blocks and 53 penalty minutes in 33 games this campaign. If he clears then he'll probably head to the minors.
Jan 20 - 1:16 PM

Steven Oleksy scored a goal in Washington's 4-3 overtime loss on Thursday.

Oleksy has two goals and 10 points in 32 games this season. That's not going to impress anyone in a standard league, but he's a bit more noteworthy in leagues that include less traditional categories. Oleksy has 46 hits and 48 blocked shots in addition to 51 penalty minutes.
Jan 3 - 10:57 AM

Steve Oleksy netted his first goal of the season and added his seventh assist in the Washington Capitals' 4-1 victory over the Rangers in New York Sunday night.

Washington's Jason Chimera and Mikhail Grabovski scored second-period goals and defenseman Nate Schmidt added a goal in the third for the Capitals. Grabovski's goal came on a penalty shot.

Steven Oleksy will suit up for the Capitals Saturday night.

He will be making his season debut against Dallas because of Jack Hillen's injury. He is projected to play alongside rookie Connor Carrick. In 28 games with Washington last season, Oleksy generated nine points, 58 hits, 52 blocks, 33 penalty minutes and a plus-9 rating.

Steve Oleksy made his presence felt in his first career NHL playoff game.

The 27-year-old rookie played 13:57, notched two hits and blocked four shots, one coming off his face. His most impressive play, though, was the saucer pass he sent from his own end to spring Marcus Johansson for a breakaway goal. "It felt like another game," said the 27-year-old Capitals rookie. "Amped up intensity, faster, physical, which helps you get into the game as a player. It was great to be a part of it."

To some, the lone bright spot for the Washington Capitals on Sunday in a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers was Steven Oleksy's goal.

It was the first of his young NHL career. He's had a great start so far, with four points in four games. Keep an eye on the 27-year-old defenseman.

Steve Oleksy is already becoming a fixture on the Capitals' blue line.

In just his second NHL start, Oleksy, 27, played 22:13, tops on the team, and had two points. "He's the type of guy that with his style of play he can play a lot of minutes because he keeps it so simple," said defenseman Karl Alzner. "He's the kind of guy we need. It's great to see him come in and fill the holes he's been filling." Oleksy had 151 penalty minutes and 14 points in 55 AHL games this year, so offensive is certainly not his specialtiy.

Steven Oleksy has signed a three-year, two-way contract with Washington.

The Capitals also called up Oleksy from the minors Monday night ahead of Tuesday night's match-up against Boston. Oleksy leads AHL Hershey with 151 penalty minutes in 55 games this season and he's chipped in 14 points as well.
