The New York Rangers had a couple of injuries to their blueliners on Saturday and will need to recall a defenseman in time for Monday's contest with St. Louis.

Conor Allen could be the first recall, although the name of Tommy Hughes is also being bandied about as the Rangers lost Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Klein to injuries on Saturday while John Moore has served just one of his five game suspension and Dan Boyle is out until the middle of the month with a broken hand. Stay tuned as the Rangers need to call up at least one defenseman.

Coach Alain Vigneault was very pleased with the effort of Conor Allen during the first day of training camp on Friday.

Allen played three games on the blueline for the Rangers last season and while he'll likely be returned to the minors after training camp, he made quite the impression on Vigneault when he was battling Derick Brassard hard in practice. "It's all part of the competitive nature you have to have to play in this game, even in practice, Vigneault said. "You don't expect Conor, even though he's up against a veteran player to let that veteran get on him. I'm sure at the end they were tapping pads. ... Brass' knows that Conor will probably do that in a game and help him out, so there's nothing wrong with boys being boys out there."

Conor Allen has been called up by the Rangers.

The team isn't sure how long Anton Stralman, who suffered an undisclosed injury Friday night, will be out for so Allen will join the team as insurance. He has 13 points in 29 games with AHL Hartford this year, but he's earned two goals and five helpers in his last seven matches.
