Nate Schmidt has stuck with the Washington Capitals so far this season.
The Capitals have been missing Dmitry Orlov (wrist) and John Erskine (neck) all season, so that's been a big factor in the Capitals' decision to keep Schmidt. Even still, Washington has used Schmidt sparingly, giving him just 14:02 minutes of ice time per game. He has three assists and 10 penalty minutes in 32 contests in 2014-15. Dec 26 - 11:29 AM

Nate Schmidt scored his second goal in the last two games on Sunday.

It was quite a weekend for the defenseman who potted the first of his career on Saturday. He had some offensive capabilities in college hockey last season with nine goals and 32 points in 40 games so this may continue. We would wait for now and see if he is able to keep it up.

Defenseman Nate Schmidt is hoping to land a spot on the Washington blueline this season.

Schmidt played for the University of Minnesota last season before signing with the Capitals. He played 13 games for Hershey and looked very comfortable in the pro game as he had a goal and four points in eight regular season games and also chipped in with a couple of assists in the playoffs. "I'll just be going out there trying not to screw up as much as possible," Schmidt said. "You've got to stick to your game. If you get too star struck, you stop playing. You've got to leave being a fan at the door and be a player instead." While Schmidt would love to break training camp with Washington, it is far more likely that he starts the season with Hershey. He has some offensive upside but is unlikely to get power play time in Washington when he eventually gets there.
