Nate Schmidt suffered a lower body injury in practice Sunday.

It is considered minor but Schmidt will be re-evaluated Monday. "Lower body, precautionary thing that we had him go off for," associate coach Todd Reirden said. "He got things checked out. We’ll see how he is tomorrow morning. He wasn’t going to play tomorrow anyway. So we’ll see how it is and take it day-by-day for now." Schmidt played 71 games last season with 16 points and 111 blocked shots. His value is in the blocked shots category.

Nate Schmidt will sit out Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Mike Weber will be inserted into the lineup as a result. Schmidt was the culprit that threw an ordinary pass in the defensive zone that was picked off by Phil Kessel and turned into the Carl Hagelin marker in Game 3. Stanislav Galiev and Michael Latta will be scratches as well.

Nate Schmidt will return to Washington's blue line Saturday night against Boston.

Schmidt has missed the last two games wiht a lower body injury. He'll pair with Taylor Chorney to form the club's third defensive unit. Through 57 games this season Schmidt has compiled 15 points with 58 hits and 95 blocks.

The good news is that Schmidt did skate Friday morning and will probably return Saturday instead. He has 12 goals and 24 points in 57 games in 2015-16.

Schmidt has two goals and eight points in 35 contests in 2015-16. The 24-year-old was very effective offensively at the NCAA level, but he hasn't been a major threat in that regard in the AHL or NHL over the last four seasons.

It was Schmidt's first point in six games this season. He's not worth owning in standard leagues at this time.

Nate Schmidt will begin the season as Washington's fifth defenseman.

In other words Schmidt will be on the third pairing, but it hasn't been determined who his defensive partner will be. He might stick with the team for the entire season, but we don't expect him to do enough offensively to be worth owning in standard leagues.

Nate Schmidt has agreed to a two-year, one-way extension.

Schmidt will make $750,000 next season and $875,000 in 2016-17. That sets the stage for him to spend the 2015-16 campaign with the Capitals, although we wouldn't be surprised if it's as the team's seventh defenseman. Even if he does play regularly, he probably won't do enough offensively to warrant picking up in standard leagues.

Nate Schmidt has been called up by the Washington Capitals.

Schmidt might be the Capitals' insurance policy in case Tim Gleason can't play in Game 7. Gleason was hurt during Game 6, but he might be able to play through the ailment. Schmidt had a goal and four points in 39 regular season games with Washington.
