Nikita Nesterov scored a pretty one for his first career NHL goal in Monday night's 3-2 loss to Los Angeles.
After Ondrej Palat willed his way through the Kings' defense, finishing with a falling forehand far-side shot, the puck found Nesterov by the left dot as he followed up the play. The rookie Russian defender settled the puck and put home his first midway through the opening frame. Thirteen games into Nesterov's career, he has a goal, three points, and 12 PIMs. Feb 17 - 4:02 AM

Date:

Nikita Nesterov and JT Brown will be scratched against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night.

Still just 21 years old, Nesterov has fared better down in AHL Syracuse than up with the Lightning. He has 14 points in 32 games in the AHL compared to his two points in nine games with Tampa Bay. The talent is tantalizing, but it hasn't bloomed quite yet.

Nikita Nesterov will be a healthy scratch Saturday night against the Blue Jackets.

He will give way to Luke Witkowski against a tough Columbus squad. Nesterov still has a bright future, it just won't be realized this season.

Nikita Nesterov has been improving his play.

The Lightning want to see what they have within the organization first before they start searching for a replacement defenseman. "Nikita has done very well, and right now he deserves to play more and let's see how he holds up. After six games he's gotten better from game one to game six," said Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman. "So we are pleased with that and that takes a little bit of the pressure off of going to find a guy. Let's see how Luke does and then if we need somebody at some point we can go into (the trade market)." Injuries to Matt Carle and Radko Gudas will give Nesterov and Luke Witkowski a chance to prove they belong at the NHL level.

Nikita Nesterov will play in place of Mark Barberio against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Nesterov is expected to line up to the right of Matthew Carle on their second defensive unit. It's hard to recommend any of these three players for your fantasy team, however.

Rookie defenseman Nikita Nesterov will remain with the Lightning through the weekend as insurance in case any of the Bolts' rearguards are unable to suit up.

He will travel with the team to Ottawa for Sunday's game against the Senators but will likely not dress as Jason Garrison came out of Friday's contest just fine and Radko Gudas is likely to return to action against the Sens. Nesterov has some talent and upside but it is not his time.
