This follows a report that Nesterov wouldn't receive a qualifying offer, which makes him an unrestricted free agent. He had four goals and 17 points in 48 games with Tampa Bay and Montreal last season.

Nikita Nesterov is not in Montreal coach Claude Julien's good books at the moment.

He made a key defensive blunder in the Habs' 4-3 win over New York Friday night leading to the Rangers' first goal. Nesterov was on the ice for only 13:05 in that contest. Julien may not be in a position to scratch Nesterov due to an illness going around the Habs' locker room and the fact that Alexei Emelin is still dealing with a lower-body injury.
