Dylan DeMelo actually played in his first game of the season Wednesday.

DeMelo was a late addition to the lineup when David Schlemko fell ill just before the warmup. He played 13:26 and coach Peter DeBoer was quite impressed with the defenseman. "I thought Dylan DeMelo did an unbelievable job," DeBoer said. "To sit around for two months, and hasn't played a game since training camp. To jump in against that team and play the minutes he did and be as effective as he was is a great testament to him."

Dylan DeMelo is expected to get into a game soon.

DeMelo has spent the Sharks' first six games in the press box. "That’s something we discuss every day," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said of the possibility of inserting DeMelo into the lineup. "We like him, we’re very comfortable with him. We’d have no problem putting him in. I know Bob [Boughner] has no problem playing him, and not worrying about playing him against anybody out there. It’s a nice luxury to have. We can get to the point where it’s too many games where he’s sitting out. We’re getting close to that. We’re going to have to get him in soon here." DeMelo had two goals and four points in 45 games last season.

Dylan DeMelo and Micheal Haley will both be scratched from Saturday's match with Detroit.

The 23-year-old DeMelo has yet to make himself a regular for San Jose, seeing just 45 career games without much of an impact. Haley is a pugilist, so if you're in need of his services then unfortunately tonight is not the night.
